Irojo, Nice work on the intro but would also be nice to be able to select the opening screen with the mouse too. Im missing your "Music/Jeopardy Theme.mp3" and some other files so I only saw the beginning. Can you upload what I might be missing?

Never Mind I found it, I'll take some time to get used to this.

Well, of course it costs money. But I recall finding a domain (www.younamehere.com) that said at the top: This site was hosted free with GoDaddy.com. I'm been searching around the GoDaddy page, and I couldn't find any place with free hosting. We could always use 2IP (which is currently under maintenance). It's a good free host, just yournamehere.2ip.jp, and allows FTP connecting.

If you know what you are doing, you can get free webhosting, best I could get it would be darknoobs.cjb.net. I thought of this before though, then I realized, our discussion ON the forums are what let people know that we exist. If we take it off the forums, we won't be able to get anyone new very easily.

We could set one up for us to use that is simply hosting for our projects and a location to store our current code/media files for our projects. However, we should in NO way set up a forum for it. We need to keep all discussion based on this board.

What do you guys think, should we do it?

I guess so. It would be easier; instead of searching this post for all of the code and media, we could just consult the site, and it would give us all of the information we need.

It would be nice just to have one to host our FINISHED Projects.

But I have no experience with that kind of stuff.

I could whip it together, though, it would take me some time to get the necessary software.

Lets try to finish this though. I start school in a week or so, which will limit the free time I have. Don't worry, though, I won't disappear.

Big thing to do:

Wrap it up-This entails all touch-ups and, more importantly, what happens at the end. We could just have it return to the menu, but what I think should happen is it goes back to the load screen. If they die, it will do some stuff and then restart the level.

Here is an idea, there could be an arcade mode. In this one, it will be randomly generated maps, the goal of which is to collect as much as possible while moving to the edge of the screen. This would imitate the miner digging his way to get into Fort Knox and then getting out.

Just an idea, but it shouldn't be done till we actually get a "finished" program. I consider maps as additional media (don't get me wrong, we should make at least 10 before we consider it done).

Updated my MapMaker alot
There are 3 ways to scroll now. 1-Press the Arrow keys, 2-Use the Sliders, 3-Hold on Spacebar and drag the map with mouse.
Now able to change Map size but only able to increase I haven't figure out how to decrease yet.
Added a Help drop box with text.

Any suggestion/tips are welcome.

So, about that website...its uploaded and online. The archive page doesn't exist yet (for obvious reasons).

Oh, by the way. If you guys finish a map editor, post it compiled here and I will post it on the site.

Alright, here is the way to save:

We are saving to .map files

All you do is 2 nested for next loops from 0 to 13.

Simply use CREATE FILE with the filename and a .map extension.

Then in the for next loops you use SELECT with the terrain array.

If terrain is a ground code, add the letter "x" to a string.
after the inner most one is finished, but before the second next call, you will write the string to the file and clear the string. Will post code soon.

Quote: "Are you planning on adding Ashingda 27's MapMaker"

Yeah. Anyone who makes a mapmaker, just compile it and zip it. Then upload it to fileden or another free file uploading service on line and give me the link. If you can't do that, you could just post it here and I can do it.

Fabulous. The Editor should be complete within 2-3 days. Maybe 1 if I get cracking. Thanks.

If you go to the editor under extras, you'll notice that it will save the file, but will exit, and say file already exists. What on earth am I doing wrong?!?!?/

In your save subroutine, you use both MAKE FILE and OPEN TO WRITE. Both of these create a new file, so when you make it, it exists and when you open it to write, it already exists, resulting in an error.

Also, I noticed you have a lot of END commands. You really should only have 1, at the very end of the program before all subroutines. At the end of the Level_Editor subroutine, you don't even have a return command, just an end, so those will probably also give you problems.

Off topic:
I want everyone to enter into the current DBC Challenge, it is relatively easy, and will be a good learning opportunity.

Thanks BN2.

THE LEVEL EDITOR SAVING IS COMPLETE!!!!!
It works perfectly!
I'll be putting loading in next.

+
Any changes anybody wants to do to my editor, go ahead.

Next, we need to put Nano's GUI into the game screen. (We need the code for the ingame GUI you showed us 1 or 2 pages back Nano.)
You can put it in yourself, or I, or another member, will do it gladly.

After that is complete, the game levels need to be saved. I'm no expert on that. BN2, your load screen is fine, it just needs to be larger, so more text can fit in.

I think that's everything. Other touches I'll put in. If you make any changes, BE SURE TO POST THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Otherwise, it will be hard to incorporate in, if someone else made big changes.

We are so close to being finished with our final project.

ALSO:

The guy doesn't get squished! All you have to do is detect the guy getting squished. Just have it print "PLAYER HIT" or something, and I'll put it to the game over screen.

If you can't think of anything better to do, think of what the next project will be. We should allow a one week period, that which we shall advertise for us, so we can get some members.

We should post the finished project in the Program Announcements forum part, for some great publicity.

As always, make sure to post everything!

Great job on completing it, I still have to implement the save, been spending all my time messing with sliders and windows.

Check out what I got so far. This code will work reguardless, I have a buit in image generator so if you dont have my images.png it should still work fine.

If you test my code look out for any bugs with scrolling. You can use the arrow key, click the slider or click the map and drag.

The new thing is under "File" click on "Open" to open a file manager gui. I've been able to scroll up/down, high light the files and if you click on the top tab you can move/position that window.

I'm now done with Saving and Loading maps. I took a different approach cause I hate saving Strings so I used bytes. Setting the first 2 bytes to be mapX and mapY I'll know how big the mapSize is and loading it back into an array is simple.

This means my File Manager gui is also done, well just the basics really. You can click on the file with mouse or type the file name in with keyboard.

That presents a problem, then. We need a system that works in all programs, including the main one. My map maker as well as our current program all use strings, meaning that your maps can only be used by your program.

Also, right now the map size is fixed at 14x14. While I am not saying we couldn't expand it to have multisized maps, lets wait until we finish the program to expand it.

I do agree with the loading thing, it is WAY too long. Should be able to skip the darknoobs screen by pressing enter in the middle or something. Also, if we omit the loading bar, does it still take just as long to load? It should be faster.

I am running through the game aspect now and probing you codes. So I took the liberty to draw a new Load screen and a new pointer. The dude is based off of sinister's guy that I redrew. The new pointer can be download/view with my last post.

[Edit]

Is it just me or do you knotice that it's very slow when loading music? Never mind I change the sync rate to 100 like in your code and it turned out just fine.

Oh. My. Gosh.

That. Is. Freakin. Awesome.

Does it work with the theme?

One problem the title was going to be Furious Pickaxe, and he's holding a shovel.

And about the opening screen, I agree, it is slow. I think we should have a competition or something, and whoever's logo we like the most wins.

But I really don't want us to redo the whole game... at least until there's a version 1...

Agreed. I do have the darknoobs wallpaper that we can use as a splashscreen. It would be fast and simple. As far as the opening screen goes though, lets hold off on a competition for now, lets get the game itself done, then we can work on openings.

I agree. Still to do: Get Nano's gui working so that we can generate the playing area. Also, the in game menu needs code and graphics. Lets try to stay away from program generated media if we can.

Also, we need to get some file loading stuff together so that the load screen and such will seem more correctly placed (it looks awkward with just the open screen right after loading).

I would say omit the loading bar, as it takes longer with it there since it has to sync every time.

Ok, job delegations:
Irojo, you have experience working with Nano's GUI code, so could you make the playing field frame (model it after his a couple pages back). Also create all of the graphics for the in game menu and messages using the code.

Ashingda, I know that you have already gotten a good file scanner together. While I haven't had a chance to try it yet, make sure it will filter out all files (not folders) that are not a .map extension.

Alright, lets finish this up.

I couldn't understand the game section code so I wrote one up. Here's what I got so far. It's almost done just need some more touch ups. I was really confused when working with a 3 dimension array but it worked out and I ended up using 8 layers.

My rocks only falls straight down, still need to work on making it roll left right.

Im not sure what to do when you finnish getting all the crystals and how to change levels.

Here's the code:

To implement it into the game:

-paste this at the start of the code:

-Call this gosub before the main loop:

-Call this gosub in the main loop before anything else is drawn:

It uses image number 3000 to paste the background to the screen. If this image is already used somewhere else, just change

and

When the 'Menu' button has been pressed (i.e. been clicked and then released with the mouse still inside the button area) then the variable 'menubuttongoto' will change to 1, but then instantly reset to 0 on the next loop.

Well, I made my own version ahead of time since it is my project, I wanted to know how to do everything so that I could help you guys. Irojo's is the team copy, since he has done most of the work thus far.

The idea is that this is a team job, since we can't expect noobs (no offense) to know how to do everything, we have a team work on a project collectively. If you want to, by all means, go ahead, but we do need help finishing up the team copy.

Ever notice how in Microsoft word, the word "microsoft" is auto corrected to be "Microsoft" but "macintosh" just gets the dumb red underline?

Ok I got it working, I was having problems with functions cause all variables linking to the outside are cut off like my c1=rgb(255,255,255) did not work inside the function it would return a zero instead.
Another question, am I supose to post my code and have you insert it to the team codes or am I supose to insert it then post the team codes?

Another thing, team code don't have a main loop, it's hard to follow up on what's going on.

Here's the codes for the File scanner. It should work with any codes even works on it's own with no extra setup.
The function has 2 mode. 0 = open, 1 = save. The only difference between the 2 are that it displays the text differently. The use of the function is to get a file name into a string.

Filename$ = FileIO(0)
This will load up the file scanner and after clicking "Open" while a file is selected or typed. If the file exists, Filename$ becomes the whole path + selected file.

FileName$ = "c:program files...ect...File Selected"
You then call your own map loader and use FileName$ as the file.

Sadly it's a rather lengthy function that requires 2 other functions(included). I'll figure how to shorten it later.
You can reposition the window by clicking the top blue tab and draging it. You can scroll up or down by clicking the slider or pressing up/down arrow keys. If you click close/cancel the Filename$ returns empty.

Note: This function switches the bitmap to 1, if you normaly draw everything to bitmap 0 then you have to switch it back to 0 after calling the function.
