Hi, this is my first WIP project so be nice

Team:
- Bergice (Me)
- Sushi
- Hellblaze

I am making a game based on LOTR. The place is Minas Tirith, the White City.

In this game you should be able to live in the town and travel around and do missions, fight the dark side and explore the lands.

Basically i have no more idea of what i am making because this idea just popped up in my head and then i started the project

This is being developed in C++ with Leadwerks Engine and i am modelling with 3ds max 9.

The town has'nt got any details yet but this will be implemented.

Watch my original thread here: http://z11.invisionfree.com/Istari_Productions_2/index.php?showtopic=2245

Now that's more like it! But a tip, you need to increase your FOV. Set it to 90, that's standard.

Looks nice, but some of the pictures (like stairs and tunnel) have too much bloom and lighting. The buildings look very good.

Yes, i will do that. Those images are just standard, i will change it to something better in the project code.

Quote: "but some of the pictures (like stairs and tunnel) have too much bloom and lighting"

Well, in the main project i will not have bloom probably, maybe i add it in later versions. The lightning is too strong on some pictures because i wanted to show the lights that would fade out outside the tunnels.

I am not so happy about the main city model but i will probably modify the uv-maps more later and make it more realistic + add details and buildings.

Thanks for critics!

Why not?
Although that is the weapon from the Leadwerks demo thingy, it's going to be removed later though right? Seeing as guns in a LOTR type game would seem peculiar.

Is there a reason it's running at 10 FPS? Also, I agree that you've used way too much bloom. The sky shouldn't be solid white like that, try to make it blue. But otherwise it's pretty good so far.

Those images are from the sandbox and demo launcher.

I will be able to set my own properties for the post-processing effects.

I am also wondering why the fps is so low. It could be my pc, drivers, all the effects or me running lots of other applications at the same time.

Well that is entirely dependant on your system specs. What are they?

The reason it's slow is because you are rendering over 2 million polys. Where are they all?

Let me see...

Terrain, Minas Tirith city, a few trees, rocks and models. Thats basically all. The city model isnt that many polys, its just big. And the models i use currently around the scene is just a few buildings and a mine. The mesh layers may be a reason, and maybe the terrain too.

Ok, i made a little research:

Here is a scene with my models and a simple 512*512 terrain:
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/bergice/Clipboard01-20.jpg

Same scene but with a mesh layer of trees:
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/bergice/Clipboard02-7.jpg

Its the mesh layers causing the low fps and all the polys.

I think each of those trees is around 2000 polys, and mesh layers don't use any LOD. Place trees as individual objects. Mesh layers are only for low-poly things like grass.

Cool!

You can also save a lot of speed by not making the point lights have such a wide radius. That means if one thing moves, a lot more stuff has to be redrawn for the shadow image.

Also, if you use Flip(0) the FPS won't be limited to the screen refresh rate. You'll need to use UpdateAppTime() and UpdateWorld(AppSpeed) to regulate the timing, in that case.

I like your video a lot!

Thanks for all that text

I know about the Flip(0) thing tough, but if i decrease the point light size then i might not get the ambience i wanted, is there any other way to speed up the lights, maybe the lightmap size or something?

Hey bergice, two things:

Also, what are your thoughts on Leadwerks? Would you recommend it?

Lol, dont remember how i chose that nick XD

Well, its a really good engine with nice physics and many features and good commands.

But one thing which may just be my computer but when i look at my scene which has 1.3 mill polys drawed at the same time then the fps hover at about 10-30.

But it got really good graphics to be a cheap engine and i would recommend it.

But i have had some problems with C++ so i would recommend to use BlitzMax with it instead
