I, Guyra, make my resolution to complete a game in the first 30 days of '09.

My goal will be to finish the game "Haunted" which I've just started. It's a remake of my first game ever made.
"Haunted" in the WiP forum.

@tha_rami: Nice!
@AndrewT: Nice!
@PwndGames: Just start a thread in the WiP section.

If a MOD sees this could you please change the title of this thread to "NaGaCreMo 09 [sign up]"

Thank you.

If your project is up to the standards of a WIP, then I think the best way is to post a thread in the WIP board. To keep them all uniform it would be nice to put [NaGaCreMo] in the title. This way we can identify them, and if a mod decides we should consolidate all the wips into one thread, they will be easily located.

If you make a WIP, just let me know in here, and I'll update the 1st post with links to the WIP projects.

========================================

My initial hope was to get 10 projects. We are already nearing 15, and still have a lot of time. So I'm really excited.

When i first started reading i thought this wouldn't take off, but it's actually a really cool idea. I haven't been programming in darkBasic specifically much lately, but i should be able to create something in a month (then i can actually say i've used it for something).

I, Crazy Ninja, make my resolution to complete a game in the first 30 days of '09.

Right i was about to ask the question of whether it has to be a full game so i'll go;

I plan, in the first 30 days of 2009 to create a realistic, fully physics based ocean, with above and underwater physics, plus a little boat to pilot around with.

@Oolite, That sounds awesome! I wish I had the skills to pull something like that off. You could always add to it down the road and include wind dynamics and add a sailboat! oops I'm already giving into feature creep.

I'm in!
I'm gonna make a game called "Stick it to the Man", don't want to give away too much but it will involve a man and a stick.

Nah I'll come up with something, I might try some 3D as I haven't used it for ages.

I coded an AI replica of Steve Irwin.
It crashed because of a string array.

Wouldn't that be a bit unfair towards NaNoWriMo?

I believe there are many NaNoWriMo spinoffs, they're listed on their website, maybe if permission were given to use 'NaGaCreMo'?

Oh and there exists:

NaMoGroMo

Which is the 'National Moustache Growing Month'.

I wouldn't do it officially unless we were given permission, and it would take some time to truly sit down and get everything organized. So for now, it's just a way for us to enjoy the experience of challengin ourselves/

There's a script-writing one as well - my housemate's boyfriend will be entering that one. So far I don't think there's a game creation one, may as well jump on the open market I say.

I, Blobby 101, make my resolution to complete a game in the first 30 days of '09.

It'll either be My RPG project or maybe Silent Destroyer my FPS, but i doubt i could get either of those finished in a month.
I'll think of something to do.
EDIT: I'm gonna make a hacking game where you need to hack into fake computers and websites and complete objectives.

Ah, why not, getting back to DBP would be a nice break from the usual rut of C++/ASM.

I've always wanted to do this. Then I got bogged down between trying to make it fun, and trying to make it realistic. I spent a lot of time trying to emulate Cisco Routers and coding a parser, and then gave up.

I like the way "UPLINK" did it. I think it provided "some" realism but kept in fun enough to make it a game. Looking foward to seeing how you will approach the subject.

hmmmm torture....

There's no penalty and no failure, except that which one's self imposes. While completion of a project is the aim, the real spirit behind it is for 30 days...

To challenge one's self
To commit to a project
To believe in one's self
To overcome obstacles
To endure setbacks
To persist
To share in the experience
To achieve

I think that anyone who gives it their all for 30 days, even if they don't complete their project 100%, will experience all of these during the dev process. So by it's nature everyone succeeds.

(But of course we can still rib the losers!!!) j/k

I am in the process right now of trying to set up something to help all of us reach our goals. Perhaps a thread or a blog where we try to check-in every few days (or daily), to report our progresss, share our successes/frustrations. I was thinking of some sort of Dev Diary, or journal, where people can express there thoughts. Even if it's something like, "I tried to work on the project today, got bogged down on such and such, drifted off to the forums, watched some videos. Not sure how to figure this part out".

I don't really know yet just trying to come up with ideas. It would be nice to have a record of the experience, from the perspective of all the participants. If anyone has some thoughts on what we can do, please feel free to share.

Having done NaNoWriMo last month I found all of those benefits, but for writing of course, with other people doing the challenge you push yourself and I think it's good not having a prize at the end of it because you're not trying to BE the best, but to DO your best to meet the target.

Now if they could create a 'code or die' feature in one of the DBP IDEs (like write or die, a brilliant writing motivation tool) and we could have the extra sort of motivation.
