Thanks very much Because Indians, like many settlers, used swords. This didn't happen very often, to be fair, but they were present. Although I may change it to something else to avoid confusion - also, I suspect they may have primarily used cutlasses (if any) so I think I will change definately change that. Thanks for the feedback!

Hmmm, that's a pain. I'll upload the demo to filefront tomorrow (am really tired tonight) and will post the new link then

Thanks very much - I do too, he is a really fascinating character in his own right though this game covers frontier and Native American society as much as it does Boone.

It'll be completely free - I'm looking at it as an tool to introduce people to the time/period rather than as a complete product in its own right, and also as a way of spreading word about my book

Just a quick little update. Today the website for the game went live and I sent out a press release to the appropriate distribution folk so for anyone interested here is the site: http://www.huntersofkentucky.com

I am no designer, web or otherwise, so it is pretty basic at the moment but I hope to get the blog up and running later today and I am considering putting up a forum and some other historic sources for those who might be interested. The demo did not work for me, it said something like Gamecore Error.

Actually, scrap that. I think I've had an idea! The "Gamecore error" occurs when the files haven't been unzipped, or if there's been an error in the unzipping process. I wonder if that is what's caused the problems you've had - for instance, I've had trouble with winzip in the past (which I used to compress the program at your request) with sub folders not being recognised - I wonder if this is why you can't run the game...hmmmm... (I may be way off here but it seems the only common thread I can identify).

OK, give me a couple of hours and I will try and find a free installer program and use that to make sure the demo is properly installed on a machine. I'll also use winrar which I hope will work better (I know you have trouble with it, but your machine may also be having trouble with winzip by the looks of things).

Let me see if I can get this working for you,

And here we are, the new download link

This new upload does not use either winzip or winrar, it instead uses a standalone installer. Hopefully this works Private (if it doesn't, I'm stumped)!

Static lights can still cause lag because of the distance checks FPSC uses to light dynamic entities. If you disable dynamic lighting this won't happen, but dynamic entities will be lit only with ambient light.

That's a shame, would love to hear your opinion of it

I've got dynamic lights off - at least I do now! Unfortunately Private as a problem we cannot diagnose.

I've just finnished putting together the offical demo of Virtual Frontiers. It includes the first five levels (all of which have been streamlined from the last release). Although it doesn't include all of the many later levels of the first release it gives a much better tease (so to speak) for the final product.

It is also much more polished with proper (i.e. custom) menues, Huds, etc, so it is alot more polished. I'm just waiting on a tiny bit more custom media to be completed and I'll release the complete program. Here is the demo link: http://files.filefront.com/13296351
