For those of you sitting on your hands (sorry, work will pick up soon, I promise), begin brainstorming. Work out the story, controls, and every other nook and cranny of our game. Once the map editor is done, we can go full tilt into production (again, sorry for the wait).

I think I'll start working on the towns people. Since they wont be moving around or attacking, their whole image can fit in a 32x32 pixel.

@BN2
Would you want to use a 32x32 for towns people or just stick with the 64x64?

Or maybe we can just treat the towns people as object tiles because they aren't moving?

Lets make the townspeople a 64x64 and put them in a full set (you don't need all of the images, just get one for each direction and place it where it should go, that way, if/when we want expansion, we can make them move.

@Stefan

I tried saving the weapon, and the program stopped working. Not sure why.

Also, another thing: why are you inputting strings for the integer values? Is it because you don't want to use str$() when you write the file? Or a different reason?

@Everyone

I will work on some brainstorming (if I can get any time: I've got to study for a big US History test coming up soon)

@That1Smart Guy
A spot for media gathering is open if you think you can handle it. Right now my main focus is just on images then will move to sound and music later on.

-Open Tasks-

Story: We need someone to plot out the storyline and come up with boss/mini boss. This should be as simple a story as can be.

Dialog: Need to figure how how we'll handle this. This is for talking to towns people, boss intros, opening chests (if any), etc. Need a Dialog Editor.

Animation Tester: BN2 is currently working on one but he's also currently more busy with the Map Editor. If anyone is able to complete one then that'll also be useful.

If I'm lacking details just ask.

*Think* What do we need for this project to work? We need 32x32 pixel tiles of terrains, objects such as tables/chairs, characters, etc.

Note: Things wont come nice and perfect, most resource you find will have to be modified to meet our needs.

Because I'm currently not gathering any sound/music at this stage, that's also an option for you.

If you're not a media type person, then stick with coding as this might be a bit challenging. I'm actually an artist so this is not too hard for me.

Yup, just the common 2d tiles you see in them old games. Also, take a look at our current tileset. It was posted by me a few post back.

Tiles are kept in a 10x10 set and stored into image files. So each image is 100 tiles total.

Here's an example.

@ Quirky it is because if someone inputs a letter or string by mistake it won't matter and they can redo it also the array im using is a string array, randomstring$(2,1,1) for example. I think something is wrong at this part

Wow Im near that age.

What is it doing and what should it be doing?

btw, I would suggest indenting your for->next loops like so:

Oh, save array doesn't require all of the subcategories, just the main ones. So you would do SAVE ARRAY "allequipment.arr",allequipment$(7)

I always use the .arr extention for arrays, just to make them easier to see, but it doesn't really matter.

[EDIT]
Here is my mapmaker. All thats left now is add some quick passability stuff and the save function, but I wanted to make sure that I am not missing anything.

And for the tilesets, could you guys make sure to keep tile 51 (the first one on the 6th row) black? That would help immensely as the map maker expects that.

Once again, to use the program, first you choose your tileset file (when the open box first pops up) then you can draw. The entities layer is done for the most part, will re-post the compiled program later when I throw in the code to place an image for an entity. In the entity layer (yellow) double click on a grid space to open the entity editor and then click in the areas to change different properties.

Make the box Scale in or Fade in (fade might be tricky, but scaling shouldn't be a problem)! Also, for the graphic for the window, just use a small square for simplicity, no bigger than the message box will be high, then you can just scale it.

Or, you can use a 3x3 tile system, and for the borders you use the tiles from the edge and file it in the center.

Your choice, there are several ways to do this, or if you have a better way, go ahead.

But, for some questions:

Is the dialogue going to be at the bottom or at the person's position?

Btw, this is how I'm thinking of doing it:

You input filename, [image number if at person's pos], and text, then choose any specials:

Specials:

*Scale In
*Fade in (maybe)
*Special color (e.g. 1 for boss, 2 for player, etc. - on a system like 1,2,4,8 so that you can add them together to get unique sets)
*...
(suggest any you would like, I'll update)

Then the file looks like this:

Test.dia

---------------
|Test.dia|
| Dialogue File |
---------------
[image number if we use that]
[dialogue]
[special sum]

Fix the d3drm error by downloading it and placing it in C:\Windows\System\ Folder.

hey bn2 just a suggestion for the slider make a dotted box for it becuase right now all you see is the arrows and everything else blends in you can make one that looks like windows really easy.

i made it for my file selector. just do it like this

then get the image seems to work pretty good for me just saying though. tested it it works (btw if you just run this its slow but i have used it and it works pretty good and fast although u could just make it then save the image if you want lol

There is only 1 tile that HAS to be blank, that is tile 51. Here is a numbered tileset that will show which one is 51.

Here are the locations we will DEFINITELY have in the first release:

Field
Dungeon
Boss
House

Just some generic stuff is fine, make sure they are seemless, that is, that they can be looped without sounding weird.

Hey ashingda, about that tileset that you made before. I have some comments:

For the second half, I like the water's edge parts, those are a nice touch. However, the water tile should be on the first layer.

Anything for terrain should be on the first layer, whereas decals/objects should be on the second layer.

The tileset key is: Tiles 1-50=Layer 1 51-100=Layer 2 . If this isn't enough room, we can do Layer1=Tiles 1-100 and Layer 2=Tiles 101-200, but that will mean a bigger image, but I thought we decided against that one.

Also, please don't forget that tile 51 needs to be a black square, so that by default, nothing is drawn.

Thanks for your help and good job so far!
