hi guys

Demolink:
http://drop.io/shape2demo

maybe you remember the first shape game: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=75582&b=5

well, i'm currently working on the second one and i guess it should be finished in not more than 2-3 weeks (i'm doing my abitur right now and should focus on that first). Here are some Screens in which you can follow the development process:

the weak points of the first shape were that it was too easy and that the framerate dropped proportionally to the bullets on the screen, so I fixed that. Please tell me if you have any other ideas for shape 2!

thanks

Looks nice, polished, and fun . How on earth did you manage 3000+ FPS .

thanks
I forgot to mention that the fps are kinda fake since graphics are only drawn every 10 milliseconds. If i update the graphics every loop, the fps fall down to like 300-400 fps.

Wow I just played the old shape and this looks like a huge improvement (graphics-wise at least) . The old one was simple, but fun. Maybe you could add some temporary power ups to this one: (ex. Exploding bullets that spray more shapes (shapes that DO NOT bounce) on impact, a shield to temporarily protect the ship from damage.) Also, the game could do with some sounds/music as well.

My only concern was that the ship was a little hard to control (once I realized that I could control it )

Overall very fun game though (Shape, I mean)

Wow, the graphics looks really polished. I really like the scanline glow from the shapes, cool idea!
This looks like it could be a game for an overclocked Vectrex.
I'm looking forward to a demo!

well, hopefully i can play this one. with v1 i couldn't do much and now i'm on a vista system, so... i hope you've made some changes to help with compatability.

Quote: "i think its the boring threadtitle "

it's possible. consider changing it to X- or Z-Shape people like letters in front of names for some reason. or, Shape 2: A New Beginning! tag-lines can help, too.

otherwise, a demo or video clip would help. we can only get so much from screenshots. the first version seemed successful enough and had interest, tho <shrugs>

and, for those like me (a boxed-in american), THIS is what an abitur is. yeah, i had to look it up

good luck!

hello world,

there is so much new stuff in the game and i think its ready to be tested by someone other than me

I will send the current version to the first two people who respond to this (please leave your email-adress).
It's not finished, but it has five levels with increasing difficulty, weapon-upgrades and polished graphics. I'd like to know if it's too easy/difficult, if it gets boring after a while and all your thoughts about the game.

If you want to test, respond quick!!

i'll test this, it looks good so far.
very colourful, the first game don't run on my computer,
and I blame vista for that.

Well, from a quick play through, Id say that pretty much all the sound effects could use some work. I also seemed to move really fast, which made dodging everything very difficult. Also, when I lost all of my lives, my circle image went away, but the game kept going. I just turned invisable, and that was it, I could still shoot.

It was fun though, got a touch boring, but I think if you fixed up some of those problems, it would be really great.

Yeah, i know. I dont know where wo get that media from

Quote: "I also seemed to move really fast, which made dodging everything very difficult."

too difficult? Do you get better after practice? I played it so often i find it easy. Please try it again a few times. Is it discouraging at the beginning?

I'm gonna fix that today. Typing game over on the screen and adding highscore tables is not a big thing...

sorry for the late response, i had coursework to do. i did play it.
as i said it was a good looking beta. but it ran too fast by level four i lost all my lifes because of the speed but i didn't die
but i think you knew i'll say that. other than that no other problems had been found and thats a good thing

Hi there,

A demo now for everyone ,
i dont get to coding too much at the moment, so i thought i just let you play it and tell me what i should improve

Link:
http://drop.io/shape2demo

Please leave feedback if you play it... thx

Have fun!!
If anyone does it till the end of level 7, well then ... you're really good ! You get a virtual supermariostar from me. I manage to do it like 50% of the time, but i played it a lot during development...

i know the music is annoying, it will change in the future, i promise

/edit:
btw the controls:
wasd or arrowkeys - control your ship
mouse - aim and sho0t
thats it!

shoot everything that moves!
collect money and buy stuff with it
you get extramoney at the end of each level, if you
-dont get hit or
-kill all enemies or
-have an accuracy >= 75 percent

Good game. My only criticism is that the level where you have to fly between the gaps is too hard. Presumably it gets easier with practice, but i had to keep doing the first 3 levels, then die on that one. Frustrating.

Edit: I tried again and got through the things. Then it's really hard after that, so the practice i got retrying was needed. So the gaps bit isn't too hard maybe.

thanks for the feedback. Yeah it needs a lot of practice, but while development you play so much... i can do the dodging-part without losing energy^^, it gets a lot harder later, believe me, level 5 is hell

very nice, valle. tough game. and, personally, i'd leave the music as-is

2 suggestions:

since we have to pick up the money, can the wavy edges (top/bottom) push/affect the $$ pick-ups so they are always reachable?

the tail on the cross-hair - i'd like for it to stretch when i'm moving it and pull itself up when it's pretty much stationary (i guess more of a trail than a tail). i think it would be a nice effect and help keep from overload of an already very busy visual.

very cool! thanks for the demo!

If I remember to, I'll try it out tomorrow. I've got some reading to do tonight. I gotta say though, I loved your stick suicide game so I have high hopes for any of your projects.

Okay, Valle, I had a go at it and its... spacy. Didn't get too far, sadly on a laptop that can't take keyboard and touchpad input at the same time, but I can see how it works. Will try it again later, when I do have usable hardware around.
