Okay, I got GMod 10 on the day before my birthday (March 17) along with two other games, and I have been tinkering around with it.

I have decided to use GMod to my advantage and become an amateur photographer ingame. I have a few of my pics.

There will be more from me soon. Feel free to discuss GMod here, post pics (that follow the AUP, mind you; we've all seen Alyx Vance topless), or do anything else that revolves around this great modification. Also, if you want to look me up, my Steam ID is AmericanInfantry; I go by the name of Friar.

I'm thinking about getting Gary's Mod soon. Am I correct in believing you need to have at least one source game on steam to get it? So could I just buy HL1 on PC through steam and then get GM?

Yes, I believe I made my office in Garry's Mod quite some time ago.

It has to be any source game, I guess if you got Half-Life 1 : Source.

Yes; you need either Day of Defeat Source, Counter-Strike Source, TF2, et cetera et cetera.

I recommend you get it as it's a great tool and can provide with hours of entertainment.

@ Keo: I believe we cross-posted; that scene made me LOL, especially the mailbox.

HL1 doesn't use the Source engine though (unless you get HL1 Source, not sure if GMod works with that though), safest bet is to get either HL2 or Counter Strike Source.

I had Garry's Mod 9 for a while. The only thing I ever did was mess around in the creator area, making dune buggies out of bathtubs and whatnot. I did make a catapult once that was pretty cool though.

Pictures look kinda bland. Maybe putting in a few ragdolls and posing them?

Note that you still have to pay $10 for GMOD after you buy a Source game.

In the second picture, looking over the Combine's RIGHT -> shoulder would have majorly improved the shot.

Well, the point I was trying to make is the pictures lack anything interesting in the scene.

Yeah, I realized that, but from what I've seen it looks like it's very worth it. Steam has a bundle with Counter Strike Source+Gary's Mod for $25, so I'll probably end up getting that.

All I can say is, Garrys Mod is an awesome game. I spend half my spare time on it. It also helped me learn Lua, so it was more than worth it for me.

Hey, my friend is the guy that made SpaceMod. You gotta create the right stuff to breathe properly, but it might be interesting to try out.

I have yet to play since I got my upgraded video card. But GMod rules. Someone emulated windows inside a VM in gmod... the userbase has insane skill.

That would be BlackPhoenix from the wiremod team your talking about.

I've managed to make my own Virtual BIOS using a Wire CPU and a Wire GPU from wiremod.

For those who are wondering, WireMod is an addon for Garrys Mod that lets you wire chips together (or program them). They're mostly used for controlling your contraptions or adding a basic AI to them (or advanced if you spent long enough on em).

Here's a few things i've made with Wiremod:

A Screen to display resource levels for my spacecraft: http://screenshot.xfire.com/screenshot/natural/29b181452d14c66e5bec1c2ffcee7574e3c0e6da.png

The start up logo for my own in-game computer:

The start of a BIOS screen I never finished (before Wire GPU came out):

I see people talking about Roleplaying servers. I searched on Google for them but didn't find much about them other than their names. What exactly are your RPing on them?

It's not exactly RPing; just a bunch of CSS [explicit] deathmatching each other. I never played online (prefer to be in SP) but I have heard of some pretending to be cops & assassins. Sounds pretty fun.

Private, your analogy is not quite correct, true, there are some servers wich you should avoid trying to rp on, but once you find a decent servers with admins around to monitor it and keep it from going to hell rp'ing in gmod can be the most fun you've ever had.

Gil, there are a few rp maps around for gmod, the one most commonly found right now is RP_Downtown_v2 ( when i started a few years ago when garry's mod was free it was Rp_hometown_1999 ) and inside that map are locations such as empty stores, lots of appartments a police station to keep those who break the server rules from running around, and stuff like that basicly. You can make yourself the owner of any door in the map (except for the police station) and make anything you want with it, be it a store or just an appartment your character lives in.

You can also select jobs by pressing f4 on the server and selecting one presented there, or type /job yourjob and be whatever you'd like.

There's the ammount of posibility that i find facinating about gmod's rp, it's so much different than any other rp i've ever played, there are no quests, no missions you have to accomplish, just do what you want, form a mob, steal stuff, live like a normal person, and everything beyond.

Of course i can understand there are many people that think "why play a game like that?" when you present them with this information and of course this isn't for everyone, but if you are interested in a non-violent rp (doesnt have to be non violent though, shoot everyone if you'd like, but that isn't very rp'ish now is it , but you have the option to, that's what is great about it ) where you can just talk to people, play someone that does things that you'd never do in real life, have an appartment, do stuff really , This is most definitivelly for you.

Thank you. I'm gonna try an RP server today and read a book or something while waiting (a crappa files to install).

Speaking of scenes, I am creating a WWII post-battle scene set in dod_donner. I am taking requests to make a certain theme (only WWII and modern please) on certain maps (I have DODS & CSS) and I'll post pictures of them.

Mr Private.

All I was saying is that your pictures need more interest, or action. That's what Cowbell is usually referred to as. Something that needs more greatness...

I apologize you did not understand my comment.

NPC much?

Anyway some tips I learnt from pro's & my own experience:
1. Don't use NPC's. spawn some models and pose them, you can get better results.

2. Don't use the blood splatter, do it yourself in photoshop or gimp(Gimp is actualy better than PS, just takes time).

3. Take time posing and getting your camera set up, also use super D.O.F, aswell as bloom & other stuff, make it a beuty, then perfect it again and again and keep it in your head for ever & ever.
