Not bad those first two What program did you use to make them? Also out of curiosity what's the poly count, it seems to be right at the sweet spot (not too high or low)

Incidentally, except for making cutscenes and promo stuff, there's no need to have a model of the main character since it's all first person in X10.

A picture says a thousand words.

Out of these different pistols which one should i use in Reality-Tech. remember that R-T is a sci-fi Mass Effect/Half-Life kind of game. Thanks!

I'd say #3 because it has that coolness factor. #1 looks a bit like it could be a shotgun and #2 looks more modern style.

You'll have to show some pictures in FPSC otherwise this thread will have to be moved to the 3D Chat section.

the reason i havn't shown any in-game pics is because i want to make all my assets first. for some reason i work better when i can just put it togather without having to wait for something. i would have put this in 3D chat but its going to be in X10 (unless the stupid migration happens first). so if you move it oh well.

Well; we FPSC Mods now have the power to move threads in all boards now, so once you have something to show in X10 (in this thread), email one of us and we can move the entire thread back here for you.

Aside from that; that's some very good character work you have going on! Silo's a pretty good tool for the job as well.

He can double post if he has more than one screenshot to upload.

Incidentally, try photobucket.com Probably the best image upload site. Completely free and you get loads of space. I have been using it for 5 years and I still haven't run out!

I agree with biggadd, get a photobucket account it will make things much easier for you. By using an account like this you can simply just copy and paste your photo links and have multiple pics in a single post. A very handy type of an account to have.

Plus the upside to these accounts are the fact that you don't loose your pics if you just so happen to reformat or your pc breaks down.
You won't loose them by uploading them here either. But with a photobucket account you can post albums of any type or pics for safe keeping.
Plus if you decide to start a web site with very little space to save media too. You can save room and still post tons of pics using links to your PB account.

G.i.m.p has some features that high end programs use, though i reccomend photoshop(older version) -(new too expensive) and use that...

Older Paint Shop Pro does just as well as Photoshop, and it's less then an arm and a leg. I've been using version 8 since it was released, and really there's no reason to upgrade because it has all the features needed to paint textures.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've used G.i.m.p before but I couldn't get into it. Photoshop is always a good program but expensive, so i'll try Paint Shop Pro

Photoshop really ain't that expensive. Try picking up a copy of CS2 from eBay. It's pretty cheap from there.

Okay i finally started making the pistol for R-T that i had a little vote for. i chose to make #3 because as Jingle Fett said "it has that coolness factor" which i definitely agree with.

so heres the pic. and remember that its in early development so almost all the details aren't there

ideas and suggestions are welcome

The general base of the gun is too flat for my liking, I'd suggest scaling up some parts on it to make it look less like a "cardboard cutout" and maybe beveling some edges?
Don't know how that weapon looks like for real though so I can't really add that much more advice.

the reason it's boxy like that is because whenever i'm modelling something off of a picture i create the basic outline of the object first, but thanks for the advice anyways

Creating the outline first is a bad idea, because when you're done it's very hard to give the object depth. I'm bad at explaining it though; you'll see what I mean when you go to add more detail to it.

its good in some cases? most guys who model for Source maked outlines =P it depends on the object though, although if you have an cut tool nearby its a good way to model. Specially guns

I suppose it depends on how you do it. When you start with an outline any geometry on the inside is useless, because you're not taking into consideration the extrusions and what not you'll have to make to give it depth.

Well when i'm done you guys can decide if it's a bad technique or not, but sadly in silo whenever i try to delete a vertex it crashes. but all i need to do is get some more RAM which I've been planning to get for a while, only I've been lazy and never got around to it.
also i have t2 questions:

1. when you test your game and you take a screen shot or a video, where does the pic or vid go?
2. if anyone is good at texturing & animating characters then i would be willing to pay for you services.
