Hi,

My exams have now finished (thank god) and as is unfortunately traditional in my family, I have to cook a meal for my whole extended family of 13 people.

I've never done anything like this before and really don't have a clue to start. So, does anybody have any good ideas about what to cook for:

1) Starter AND
2) Main Course

I would really appreciate any input here, and any cooking tips anyone may have!

Thanks,
Rich

Really a brisket is ideal for so many people, you can stick it in the oven and concentrate on veg and everything else.

For a starter I would get some good crusty bread, pate, and make soup.

Lol, we cook for 10 every day at my house. What type of meal does it have to be? Somthing nice I'm guessing.

How about Salad and Garlic Bread for the Starter and Spaghetti and Green Beans for the main course. It's a very simple, quick, and cheap meal that everyone should enjoy.

Do a roast meal.

Have tomato soup for starters, and then do something with roast chicken/lamb/pork/whatever and that sort of thing.

Go into the wild, catch a wild pig with your bear hands, and then roast him over a fire in front of your entire family. For a starter grab random shrubbage while you're in the wild and make a "salad".

Apparently someone told the French this before they decided to make sausages.

That made rofl for a while...

13 is nothing, for starters a big pot of pasta (Macaroni is fine, spaghetti even better), for mains get some chicken schnitzels with a salad.

Seriously you can't go wrong with it! We do it when we have guests over and not only are they satisfied, but they really enjoy it!

I just hope your not vegetarians.....

Can't go wrong with a Chicken Tikka Masala.
Actually, i'm only saying this because i made it this evening, its simple to make and everyone usually likes it.

Whatever you do (stating the obvious), just remember to keep the starter really small, a light carrot and ginger soup (be careful with this as its really easy to make carrots into a heavy soup) might be nice. You definately need something that compliments the starter so try not to mix extreme savoury and sweet. Ever thought of doing a DIY meal kit, where each guest can choose a filling or topping for a certain type of food.

You could make Garlic Cheese Bread for a starter and Pizza for the main course. Can't go wrong with pizza.

Beans on Toast. Easy to make but you'll need a rack of toasters!

Pasta is easy and filling.

Boiled eggs or even easier, picked eggs.
