Well the other day i was looking at the source code to FPS creator, and when i saw there was an update for GDK that made it "essentially" the same version as DBPro, i got thinking. Is it possible to rewrite the source code for FPSC in GDK's C++? The only major obstacle i saw was having to recode the light mapping system because i don't own dark lights.

Because GDK has the same functions as DBP it should technically be possible.

Why would you want to port fpsc over to c++? isnt it already in c++?
And wouldnt that be copywrite infringement?

EDIT: The source has been published for fpsc? otherwise you could be in some trouble depending on how you got it xD

The DBPro source code for FPSC was published some time ago. You should read the TGC Newsletters.

@ kkouzal- The source code is written in DarkBASIC (PRO)and it's not copyright infrinegment if i reright it as a mod to the engine. Look at Ply's mod or S4mod. they modded legally.

Taken directly from the readme.txt file in the dbPro upgrade 6.6:

Quote: "
FPS CREATOR GAME ENGINE Source Code
===================================

You will require the DBPro programming language, and upgrade 6.6 installed,
and the DarkLIGHTS product installed, and supplimentary DLLs copied over
in order to compile this source code and produce the FPSC-Game.exe.

You can obtain both product and upgrade from 'www.thegamecreators.com'

Used Under Public License:
1. You CANNOT make 'game creation' or 'level editor' software with this code
2. You CANNOT make a 'game engine' for the purpose of selling it as an engine
3. You CAN make a GAME with this source code for the purpose of selling it

Would what you want to do classify as #1?

Sorry, Bran but neither of those, it's strictly a mod. And it is completely legal to write a mod. In relation to FPS creator, this means you rewrite FPSC-Game.exe in order to get better performance, effects, etc.

That's all I'm doing. I'm not creating an entirely new product with this.
