Wow this sounds fun and original. I may take a shot at this. Spooky games don't always need to be gory games. I think this is a great idea.

Oh and marc please keep the judges to more advanced users cause some new guy that just got FPSC cant judge so the results are unfair.Anyone with atleast some experience should judge,or they should show proof by showing their game and if its good enough to standards like decent object placment and lighting.

I probably should have done some more research into the users before I made them judges. I'll take a look over their accounts and see if they're appropriate for the position. There are 5 slots available, and I hope to have 3 advanced users and 2 basic users so we get a nice spread of results.

First of all, since I'm still on the judge list, I'd like to tell you guys a few things :

If your game is JUST scary (like zombies popping out of nowhere and a light turning on.) then I won't mark it very well. I realize that I probably WILL get scared, but this isn't a horror contest, now is it?

It's a MIND TRIX contest.

Quote: "..."scare" the player through the use of Mind Tricks and Audio etc. "

Nowhere do I see "scare the player through the excessive use of zombies that explode body parts in your face and scream at you".

That doesn't mean I will mark all zombie games bad, it means that if your game is pretty much a modern horror game, no matter how good it is, I won't mark it very well. (Extra points though, if you get me to pee in my pants )

Just my 50 cents. And the bottom line is : this ain't a horror competition. It's MIND TRIX.

Noo!!!! You must not leave. You are like one of the only orignals left. I remember when I was a noob... well more of a noob than I am now, and Butter Fingers was the ALL mighty king pretty much. I even remember he wrote me this awesome story one time when he was on a subway train. It was for one of my games. Boy, those were the good times.

Hi, it’s Robert with Stealthmod! You’ll be saying Stealth every time you use this mod! It’s like CoD! It’s like L4D! It’s like BioShock. A regular mod doesn’t work good – this works good and great.

I just think you're being a little prejudiced and a bit unreasonable in your scoring from what I've read. Again I don't want to insult you or anything, I'm just a little concerned.

@dark peanut

I'm not saying that I'll automatically mark horror games horrible. I'm just reminding the contestants that the main point is to scare the player in a clever way.

I guess I was being unreasonable with the modern horror thing. I just don't wanna see hordes of zombies coming off with no mindset.

I'm fine with Modern Horror, as long as it's clever. Something original. Personally, I love horror, but I'm sick of really, really unoriginal ideas.

I apologize if I didn't explain this right the first time.

Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't judges lack the "bias" attitude towards anything related to the competition? I mean, that's what makes a judge "fair". If the judge is not biased in their way of thinking, then you're guaranteed a fair competition.

That's what I believe. And that's also why I was taken aback with lil marioman's post. You pretty much just stated that you were going to be biased against a certain type of entry, regardless of how well it followed the rules and guidelines.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me it sounded like you were expecting every single entry to be of a horror genre and for every contestant to use "cheap scare tactics" to get points, and all you wanted to do was discourage that type of thinking. Well, instead of threatening to deduct points for such an entry, why not just say "More points will be awarded to those who come up with unique ways of scaring the player"?

@Plystire

That's pretty much what I meant to say, except I'm really bad at wording things. I've been really stressed out in school lately too, so all in all, I'm just really tired.

I'm usually not the one to be biased, and I realize being stressed is probably not an excuse for acting like this. I really should take a bit of a break from the computer.

So anyways, thank you, Plystire, for pointing that out, and I apologize if what I meant to say just didn't come out right.

Hey everyone,

I adjusted the judges list yesterday to allow space for a wide variety of judges. If you were on the list but were removed, if by the end of the competition there are still empty places, you will be given them. And if you feel inspired, you can even enter the competition yourself.

Inspire, I added you to the list. I'm looking forward to seeing your entry

Quote: "If your game is JUST scary (like zombies popping out of nowhere and a light turning on.) then I won't mark it very well. I realize that I probably WILL get scared, but this isn't a horror contest, now is it?"

Obviously, points will be awarded for scariness, but being original and creative will score your entry mega points.

Quote: "I'm just reminding the contestants that the main point is to scare the player in a clever way. "

Exactly.

Quote: "Well I guess take me off the list since I am just a 34yr old noob thats been around video games longer then you have been alive so I wont know what is good."

DonWON, you are staying on the judges list, don't worry. Like I said, I'm accepting a variety of judges, not just those experianced in FPSC, but video games as a whole.

Quote: "Just a clarification, are we allowed to do scifi horror games here?"

Yep. You can set it in World War 2, the year 3000, or even in a dream, like Umbra. Hell, you can even set it in super fun bunny land (although don't expect your entry to score too highly )

Good luck everyone.

P.S. I'm avoiding all MIND-Trix WIP Threads so I can build up anticipation.

Not against you at all. Sorry it might have seemed rude sounding but I have been working 14hrs a day so my posts have been short and probably sound pretty rude. I just mentioned that maybe you should be a judge in my place since the 5 spots were already taken. I would hate to get in the way.

If I can judge this still I would love to but only if the community agrees on it.

Also thanks to xplosys for the game upload since I have yet to play it like many here.

DOH!!! Download limit reached. I would be more then happy to host this file on my site if I ever get it and permission was given. Please let me know if its ok.

FPSC Rocks: The reason you arent on the list is that you dont have enough experience in FPSC and that makes it unfair for everyone, the results are inaccurate. So only veterans or people that have a good game to show can get on the judge list.

By using FPSCreator, making levels, creating media etc. The same way all of us did. I'm not denying him experiance, but if the entries are to be fairly judged, I'll need judges who have a variety of skills.

Store points and money are (almost) fully interchangable. You are allowed to trade in as much money as you like for as many points as you want. If you would like to change your store points into money, there will be a $5 reduction on the 2,000 points and a $2 reduction on the 1,000 points. The reason being is that the points are supposed to be there to assist your game creation skills, rather than to fill your wallet (though, if you want this too, you can always go for first place and do both). This means the conversion rates are:

2,000 = $15
1,000 = $8

Hope this makes sense.

Well, since I can already model, the points wouldn't really hold any value to me, so rather than 'assist my game creation skills' they would most likely just sit in my account and never be used. Which is why I brought it up in the first place. However, a $10 or $20 investment towards a timer system for Fenix Mod would be...very beneficial.
