Hello all!

I am currently working on a project, and am in need of a DarkGDK programmer who has a bit of spare time, and knows how to do basic online programming.

The idea is this - 'The Project', as it is currently called, due to a lack of ideas, is an online city, designed by myself, in which players can walk around, chat to other players, drive cars, travel in public transport etc.

Now you may all be wondering what this is leading to, or what the point of this game is - there is no real objective in the game to be honeat. It is more of a social envrionment for the moment, and once we have got to the stage of a chat-enabled environment, we may implement some sort of background story, such as a gang-ruled city or something.

I will be uploading a couple of pictures of the work-in-progress city within the next 45 minutes, as I'm waiting for 3DWS to render the lighting.

So, if you are interested, or would like to know more, then just send me an email, or add me to MSN, using the buttons at the bottom of the post.

Cheers all!

I have not personally done any programming, because I don't know how to, and have tried and failed to learn. A friend of mine did write a program which allows me to upload a 3DWS map, then walk around it, so I guess that could be used as a foundation....I'm not sure!

I am in the process of writing the game design document, so if anyone is interested in reading that, I'll post it here or email it to you once I post that it's ready.

Below are some screenshots of the rendered city (currently called Kedalberg, any better ideas?)

EDIT: Change of plan, the forum wont let me upload pictures for some weird reason - ill attach them to posts

Cheers all!

so are you a modeller?
if you can get someone to program the online aspect of it, I can help write some functions... I don't use GDK anymore, but I can pick it back up if I need to...

I am a modeller, yes. I specialise in level design, but I can do other things, such as voice-overs and music/audio.

However, I am a failure at texturing my models, as I can never seem to get the knack of things like UVunwrapping or whatever its called

But if you could help with whatever you can, it would be hugely appreciated! Feel free to add me to MSN or Yahoo! messenger if you want to chat a bit more about it.

Cheers

Sounds like a good idea, i have some other ideas that may be of help:
have a "guild" system where people can organize themselves, dont call it a gang though.

have maybe a job system so people can be cops, or sell things at a store.

have things like construction where users can build building once they gain enough money, so that the players feel a part of the world.

Yeh, thats not a bad idea actually WKI, thanks.
For the moment though, I'm going to keep the project/game simple, so that it doens't scare away to many people.
When we have got to the finishing stage of the current project, I would like to be able to expand into the kind of thing you are talking about, sure.

the building stuff would be the only hard part, just make a system for creating a guild, add a variable to each player called "GuildID" and have the ID relate to the guild channel that it represents.

I'm currently working on a MMORPG and i have this much programmed so far, simple client server interaction with authentication, guilds, and a simple little "duel" system that so far is just a roll of the dice.

If you are completely new, practice using Multisync, it's great, get a "client" / "server" up for just chatting, and you should be able to figure out the rest

@How is it going - I've added you to Yahoo messenger via my MSN address

I'm contiuing work on the game, for sure, just need to learn how to do a bit of programming first. (with the help of WKI!)

If you are interested in helping out, I am in need of the following things:

@ Textures
@ Basic 3D Modelling
@ Online Programmer

If you're interested, just add me to MSN, or send me an email to my hotmail.

Cheers

Hey baconboy2,

May I suggest that you go to college for at least a year. At least you could take the required math and C++ courses that would help you out. Many also offer a graphics course in Adobe and some type of 3D animation software.

You are looking for...

@ Textures
@ Basic 3D Modelling
@ Online Programmer

which you could learn in a year or two in college.

Not offering to pay anything may not get you very much if anything. I would not code anything for you for free. We use to laugh at the AOL users a decade ago who wanted people to work for free on the current project. If you did good then you (((might))) get hired with pay on the next really big project. It was good for a laugh anyway.

EDUCATION in a college. Just an idea for you to think about.

You know for a fact that you have reached the edge when you can absolutely see sound!
