@QuothTheRaven: Yeah we seen it the first time you posted it, it's kind of repetitive now. Don't you have better things to do than to lurk these forums and bash people? I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds your tattler antics to be annoying.

Also speaking of narcissism look at your own posts as apposed to pointing the finger at random people who publicize their opinions. They should put your join date to December 2009 to fix your personality.

Strong opinionated sentence there, Blender can make industry standard 3d content, even though i do not like it much, it is far from a joke. Maybe try to be a bit more constructive with your posts, your posts are less constructive than what you believe to be a pointless thread, lighten up, drink some coffee.

Gotcha, From now on i will always use the best of the best, no matter my inexperience or price.

Freaking idiot. Ethier you just told someone to pirate a couple grands worth of software, or spend a couple of grand on a hobby that may just be a passing fad...

Grow up a little, < the difference between me and you is that i act dumb you on the other hand just dont realise it.

Sure the tools help the artist, but its the artist that makes the tool. Everything is realitive to that persons preferences. Ill admit threads like these do tunrn into peeing compettions, but if you dont like it, GTFA.

Ive lost intrest now,

I honestly don't see why you're trying to give any input on this subject anyways Quoth, from what I've seen you're not that experienced in the 3D modeling world, so Im not sure where you're getting your information or your "higher than mighty" attitude from. Wings 3D is a great package, Im in second year animation in Canada's best animation and art college (Sheridan), I've been using Max for the better part of 3 years now, and I still turn to Wings 3D to pump out a base mesh that I can then modify in Max with it's more advanced features. Wings lets you speed up the modeling process a lot if you've got the skill. I often wonder why Discreet doesn't try to incorperate a more fast-paced intuitive system as an option in their packages. I hope you're taking a break from the forums, you're getting way to drawn into this.

The tools I said I use just happen to be popular. I can say right now why I use them. Also I used GameSpace and Wings3D a lot but wanted a faster work flow.

*AC3D Can do complex meshes faster that any other tool I've used including Autodesk offerings with less clicks.

*MakeHuman saves hours and even days of work compared to Maya and other tools with similar character features. This is probably why modelers hate it, it's a threat to job security.

*ZBrush has raster style skinning and the only non-destructive poly reduction in the industry, and it's done in a few mouse clicks.

Going with Max and other tools is foolish for independent developers who want to produce quality assets in a timely manner.

Make Human is definitely no threat to job security. Their meshes are rediculously over-poly.

Blender 2.5 is very, very good I have to admit.

Personally I use Maya, Zbrush/Mudbox and 3D Coat for retopologizing. Whether they're my favorite ones or not time can only tell.

People get paid thousands of dollars per asset to do what MakeHuman does, and that's not even clothing modeling or texturing. Also you do poly reduction on the models the same as you would in any other software you care to mention.

I use ZBrush for reduction and then spend maybe 30 minutes 'de-triangulating' parts of the mesh for rigging..compare that to the time it takes in Blender or Autodesk offerings from people with skills worth mentioning...It is a threat because it makes a once small market in the job economy completely open to the public. Look for mentions of it in CG communities it gets trolled and flamed every time.

The insinuations that certain software is noob or not good enough is humorous especially coming from people with nothing to show except public displays of pseudo-enlightenment and frivolous nay-saying.

I use Blender. After you get used to it it's great!

The only bad thing about blender is all the keyboard controls, but once you get used to them it's fast and fun.

My favorite right for rigging and animating is Milkshape 3D. It's nice and sample, and works really well with the robotic models that I'm using. I've also tried Google Sketchup, and I have to say that's a satisfactory program for creating buildings and structures (at the very least). I like using that as well.

I haven't really seen a lot of discussion about Truespace. For a free program, I'd think a lot more people would be using that.

Currently working on - A new engine with Dark GDK. Let's do this!

I have Blender and 3DS MAX, but I have to say:

Modeling: Blender
Animating: 3DS MAX
Rigging: Milkshape 3D
Rendering: 3DS MAX

I've used a few programs over the last 8 years or so, but I would have to say Blender is my favourite still. It does have some bugs, and some peculiarities, but on the whole, it is the fastest modeller I have used. Hot-keys take a bit to get used too, but after a while you can move very quickly through your work flow. In my experience, much quicker than Maya, and quicker than MAX by a bit.

I'm not a fan of Maya at all. The interface is cluttered, and the workflow is slow as a wet week when it comes to modelling. The radial menu is really cool, but that doesn't make up for the slowdown you hit when there are 5 ways of achieving something. My experience with Maya is limited to 2 years at Uni, though, so I can't really comment on it that well. If I used it every day I am sure I would speed up a lot.

Max is very good in the polygonal modelling department. I started to really get into 3D with GMAX, so I have a very healthy respect for it. In college I used 3DSMAX for everything, and ended up writing tutorials for the class and taking them when the next year came through. I would say I have moderate experience with Max. I still found the interface to slightly ungainly, but for the most part I really enjoyed using it. That was Max 5.1 hehe, some time ago. I finished college, and since I have never been big on piracy or money, I went back to Blender.

Blender has come a long way, and really benefits from the small size and small methodology behind it's development. Everything is accessible quickly, and with the non-overlapping menu, nothing is obscured when you need it. With the speed of development, you know that it is always being improved, and the developers are really accessible. I have met a few of them, and they really are passionate and pragmatic people. A downside of its rapid development is that the interface, or at least the button placement, got a little haphazard. 2.5 will redefine that, and it already looks amazing. I have used Blender and Max in a professional setting since 2007, and Blender definitely holds its own. I used Blender to animate engineering structures, Blender to develop game assets for a paid project using DBPro (with Cash Curtis), and worked at http://www.infinite-interactive.com on two games using Blender and 3DSmax. Together, Max and Blender are good.

So, I do have a tad of experience, and no, Quoth the Raven, Blender is not crap.

Regards,
Greenlig

i tried blender once and will most likely give it another shot at 2.5 but until then cinema 4D has everything i need. and for modeling you never have to go past right clicking or selection up in the bar(for loop selection ect.) there are short cuts but i have always had terrible keyboards were buttons were dieing or sticking, until recently when i got an ergonomic keyboard. so i never went far into hot-keys, and i still don't. that has more to do with me getting used used to not using them. i still find cinema's rendering capabilities amazing. for how simple it can be.

Oh I see, when someone AWESOME and SEXUALLY SUPERCHARGED like me comes along and correctly points out an awful thread like this one, your mustache gets all knotted. But when someone who you don't feel intimidated by breaks the rules you have no problem locking their thread: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=164336&b=3

Make no mistake, literally everything I say is right. I know that's hard for you to accept. I just have the audacity to express my emotions in a true, beautiful way.

"SEXUALLY SUPERCHARGED" - Does that mean you have been waiting for ages?

I prefer TrueSpace 7.6 for poly modeling, Uv maping rigging and animating. I use ZBrush to create a high poly version and for texturing then export normal map and texture maps for use on the low poly version in TS.

gimp2 2d editing
Texture Maker for seamless tiles.
fragmotion for converting between file types.

I use TrueSpace, DAZ Studio, X-Frog and Photoshop mostly.

The company that made TrueSpace went under but their program is still available for free at www.caligari.com

DAZ Studio and stock model content is free too. www.daz3d.com

I must say this post is very informative. I've been worried that I can't animate in Blender too well, but know many of its other features. I also own AC3D and MS3D, and I'm learning that perhaps animating over there is best, or faster... can someone elaborate?

I've been settling down so I finish small products, so I'm anxious to learn how to finish the pipeline, as in, not have any gaps in the ability to produce a game.
