Modeling takes a very, long time mate... More than 10 minutes, which is the max YouTube allows. That is a good idea, maybe I could provide a movie download instead.

But I've decided not to release it, I need them exclusively for Primordial. But... since there is room to improve, I may be able to record me making a better gun for you folks

Anyways, got the Makarov finished, gotta brown the texture a bit, add scratches, up the quality, the usual...

Cheers, working on the texture now,

PwP

I'll admit, that gun's pretty awesome. I would like it if you were allowed to release but you ruined his trust for right now I think.

Yeah. Sorry guys... I guess.

I redid the texture, looks better. Not exactly as brown as I wanted it (more purple-ish), but much better.

Cheers, C&C welcome,

Looks good but I would recommend toning down the saturation for the texture, it looks just a bit too purple.

No problem, and I want to let you know that I'm not on sides. I realize that there was a misunderstanding in the thread and I understand that it happens to everyone occasionally. I would just recommend for any future rigs that aren't completely your models, put a little note that they are edits of other models not 100% new ones.

Yeah, I don't really feel like modeling right now either but it's so fun.

And yes, Merry Christmas! If only I could give the Makarov away as a Christmas gift, but anyways

Well, I'm pretty sure that the map is cut from a copyright image which you did not create.

This isn't anything personal. I need to look out for my customers is all. This goes for anyone using photos on weapon models. Don't expect approval unless the work is 100% your own. I've been too lax on this previously. Next month I'll set out some posted guidelines because I'm starting to get a lot of these sorts of requests.

It indeed is. I was saying that I made the model 100%. I'm sorry, I woke up too early this morning. Sorry for all the trouble guys. I am not a morning person.

I should learn to texture guns better. I've never been good at it

Would it be allowed if I heavily, heavily modified the picture?

Quote: "This isn't anything personal"

I know, I don't take that many things personal unless it's against me very, very personally or against my family and friends.

But, I have to ask this again, EAI, how could I make the model better? I desperately need to know

Cheers, Merry Christmas!

Your models look good but just a tiny thing I couldn't help but notice. On the Makarov you've got the hammer attached to the slide, it would look much better if you attached it to the main stock. But apart from that, keep up the good work and have your self a Happy Christmas.

It is? Oops... Oh well, I'm no weapons expert.

@Butterkiss, Yeah, I'm sort of a lazy bum when it comes to very tiny details. If I were selling it, I would put at least 2 hours (or more) of extra work. I do agree with you, though, and Merry Christmas to you too, only the 24th here though

Alright. I'll try. But today I just want to make somethin' easy, simple, yet cool. I have a few ref pics I saved a long time ago, might try to find 'em and use them.

Oh, and I am allowed to use a reference picture, right? Sorry, new at gun modeling. I'll get there eventually.

Double post, I like to space out posts...

Does anyone who is good or has experience at gun modeling/rigging for FPSC (like EAI or Fletcher or Benge, whatever) have any advice at all for the guns?

That just takes practice mate.
Just keep at it and you'll get better

{edit} and SERIOUSLY,. use something other than ac3d, it is not NEARLY as powerful, as say wings 3d.
And wings is free!

Sorry, I'm just very used to AC3D and know a lot of simple tricks that help out a lot I've tried Wings, didn't like it much, sorry.

Alright, well, to prove that the content is mine, I'll provide you with screens of each new shape I make during the creation of a gun. Right now, I've decided to work on the XM8. Screen attached, and it's very simple. It's just the first shape, so yeah...

But anyways, that's my proof.

Alright, done with the XM8. Texture turned out... Decent. Might tone down the saturation again.

And yes, I didn't make the famous XM8 Sand color texture, nor the black texture, I made the texture for Primordial standards

And the wireframe:

if you really want to improve your gun models you need to spend a lot more time on them, that last one took you just over 1 hour to model & texture.now im no expert but i spend more than that on getting good reference photos.my latest model took me around 25-30 hours from start to finish.

your modeling looks ok i think you just need to take a bit more time over it.then take the time to learn to uvw map & texture.a great model will look crap if you texture it badly, yet a crap model can look great with a good texture on it.

there are a few textureing tuts on my site that may help you but like i said im no expert.

good luck mate

Hi henry, yes I've seen a lot of your work, very inspiring
Your website is also a lot of help. Now that gun model of yours, the PPK, I didn't know you were basically done! I don't have that much free time (right now I'm posting from my phone) so I generally rush models. But you are very right, I've tried to spend more time on models, but with each hour that passes, I seem to get more nervous and rush a lot more. I have no reasonable idea why, drives the nerves out of me. But I'll surely try mate and will check out your texture tutorial, what program is the tutorial for? I use GIMP, but have Photoshop which although is a lot more powerful, I am most definitely not used to it.

May I see a wireframe of that model of yours; I' d like to know the typical details that should be in the model and what details should be in the texture. I like to keep my models low poly, very low as I never really figured out how much FPSC could handle (talking about guns) until one time I tried an extremely High-Poly gun which ended up spitting out an error about not being able to load a 3D object.

Cheers, thanks for any help,

A question for PW, henry or anyone who knows... in the case of a pistol like the one above, what meshes should be separate for animating purposes. This is something I think I might like to try.

So the receiver, the trigger and the clip are separate from the body. What about the hammer?

The Slide, Trigger (only if wanting good detail), the bullet that ejects, and the clip. I learned this by studying a bunch of EAI's work in FragMotion

Yep.

Well, I got the XM8 rigged, but was not happy with the texture or the scope, so I'm not going to show it off Sorry.

I still have a lot more reference pics, mostly AK's, but those are boring, they're not unique. Things like the G36, XM8, etc. are unique.

Hey pw great job. Just had a quick question or anyone on this thread if you dont mind. When modeling say a hand gun like in the pic. Do you make the slider separate or do you make the whole gun first then separate the parts?

Model these separate, doesn't matter what order:

-Slider
-Whole gun part (handle, and below the slider)
-Hammer
-Bullet to be ejected when firing
-Clip

Henry, I must thank you so much for inspiring me to go back to Photoshop. I've learned so many things except for one: Where in the world is the Dodge/Burn tool? I cannot find it, sorry very stupid question

It depends on your version, but it is normally grouped with other tools under the same button. The button may have a small triangle on the bottom right where you click to show all the tools under that button. In my version (7.0) dodge, burn and sponge are on the same button.

If I totally messed it up, sorry. It was fun to texture. Original model was on TurboSquid, I again merely edited it a bit. (lowered the polies mainly and textured it)

The eotech sight isn't aligned properly. Raise it up a bit and the two parts go together, not seperate. Sorry if you can't get what I'm saying, it's a bit hard to explain.

As for the camo's, they're alright but you have your overlay on the bullets, which just wouldn't happen. It also wouldn't be on the magazine either (I can't see if you have it there or not, but I'm assuming you do.)

Yeah, the camo, it's not on the magazine, don't worry. And thanks for telling me where the eotech should go

@OG, I'm planning on making a tutorial, be patient.

I just received a 600$ Professional Synthesizer for Christmas, so I'm not going to be on the computer; I'll be making a lot of noise But expect FREE music from me when I find a recorder

On the topic(ish) of this thread more:
I've made hands to release with my weapons so I won't need permission. But then the weapons will have no EAI animations... I rigged them Christmas Eve, haven't made any new weapons.

Cheers
