Okay, first of all this is my first time with 3ds max or ANY modeler. I was watching a tutorial to make a video game dumpster tutorial (this is after I had watched the basics video tutorial) and it said something about making the object in two so all I will have to do is mirror one part so I can only do half of the work. It never really shown how to do that... How do you do it?

Thanks!
Zeus

all you have to do is delete half the mesh then apply a mirror modifier.

I prefer making the complete model, but if you wanna use this method of mirroring, you normally start in low poly with a box, so if we extrude faces trying to make half of a soldat model, we just make this half to mirror it at the end and attaching both to one object.

I use to make first the body without the head, to add it at the end,and applying mesh smooth to the object.

@ chafari, your outdated mate, Max 9 has a symmerty modifer that does all the work for you.

Ohaio Zeus,

This way should make life esaier for you, Clcik on the mesh your using and go on the modifers tab. After a little searching or press S youll find the symmertry modifier.

This mirrors the mesh for you and closes the seams, ' welds the polies together to create a solid mesh.

I have poorly put together a pic of what i mean in the DL.

Anyway, since you only want half the mesh mirrored, click the drop down box on symmerty, then clcik the mirror sub function.

you can now control the area which you mirror by moving the mirror line along the axis of your choosing. to change the mirror axis, Look at the parameters below the objects modifier hierarcy and choose appropretly.

See I am smart, i just act stupid.

Obvious typos, but im meant to be working so im typing fast.

If you need any other help, just ask.
