Hi, I'm just wondering here, has anyone tried making a true 3d game (with the 3d glasses etc.)? Im currently trying out the theory on a modified version of the tutorial monster hunt (its a good, simple, solid base code).

Basically what i have so far is 2 cameras, both offset slightly, projecting onto two ghosted plain objects which are locked on to the screen. It works in as far as you get two offset images, but i am stumped on how to color them differently (red and blue). Ive tried using the 'set gamma' command, but this only affects the whole screen, and not the individual cameras.....

any thoughts?

ah, ok, i just found this thread

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=82669&b=5

which solves my red/blue conundrum to some extent, but another thing I am failing with is how to have the cameras set apart at the correct distance, whichever direction i am facing in... so far it is only correct in one direction, as each camera rotates around its own axis, and not a common one between them....

What about using something like this,

\Attached/

You need a calibration system to the distance from the television, From that you can move the focus points further/closer away.

Try locking them to a single point, like have torches strapped to your head. \See Dl image/ thats the general idea of what i mean.

I have no idea on coding though so ill just through ideas around, viabilty is your department.

setup a kind of 'camera frame' object with limbs fixed at 3 points: camera 1, camera 2, focal point, you can then position each camera to the xyz loc of their respective limb position xyz and then point each camera to the xyz position of the focal point limb.

when you move or rotate the camera frame object, everything else will adjust and maintain a fixed relationship to each other.

edit: or well mabye a separate focal point limb for each camera seeing as you need the focus slightly offset, though you could probably work out a +/- offset mathematically, or calculate the limb positions with sin/cos maths instead of an actual limb, but you get the idea

You could just download iz3d for free. It allows you to use coloured 3d glasses with any directx application, and it works pretty well. Especially with objects falling down towards the player.

Jeku always gets drunk and tries to Moderate the ocean. Tirelessly slapping the waves as they roll in.

Thank you all for your help, I have now solved the problem with the camera, here is the sudo code for it

move the cameras forward
move them apart
sync
move them back

The 3D look on the whole works quite well, especially when the scope is in use... i'll put up the download when I've finished tweaking it..

Ok, here's the game. You may think its a bit easy, but i don't like getting killed .

You obviously need a pair of red/blue glasses for it to work in 3D.

The controls are written at the bottom of the screen...

any feedback about the quality of the 3D look would be good, as i don't actually have any 3D glasses atm. I've currently got a sweet wrapper and bits of a see through cup stuck to some cardboard glasses i cut out.... they're not very affective, but they do work to some extent....

EDIT: Ok, I've edited one of my better games into 3D, and it looks really good! I've posted the download for it under the original version of the game at http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=163725&b=5
