ahhhhhhhh that's confusing =/
shouldn't poly count be tri's * 2? in 3d's max i see "polys: #", when i create a plane (1 segment), polys increase by 2, so polys are tri's? if so...i have just destroyed half my model's details =/

EDIT: polys are tri's, so here's what i have after a adding a few details

1 quad= 2 tri's
1 poly = a face, quad or triangle, usually quad.

Just noticed something rather annoying, tri count is now 1308 since bones are registered towards the overall tri count.

So just to harass you again, Do bones count towards the 1000 tri count? Since there not really geometry i cant see them counting so ill countine to animated anyways.

I'd say Bones are not counted as part of the model, they are added to 'rig' the object.

Cheers!

Well heres my entry anyway.

Download attached
has .OBJ+.Mtl .3ds And a .Max file, With the Alpha ready texture.

The texture is in PNG so sorry for lag lol

Thier is a readme with this, with outragous demands i may add

Enjoy this guys your on the first round

Just a side note, thier is no actual reference pictures showing in the texture. I directly paint on top of them with alot of layers and work back into them. If you look at the chest and face youll noticed this while the gloves are hand drawn without ref's.

Fun fact, thier is 304 layers in the .psd file. 108 after compression.

I will round up all the entries for judging on the morning of the 27th when I get up. That will give any last minute entries a few more hours to sneak in.

Cheers!

Yeah, I thought mine was going to be simple, but I was never able to get the buggy scaling problems in the animations fully worked out to an acceptable point.

It's too late for me to enter, but I'm almost done with what was going to be my submission. Would I be able to enter it for the Programmers compo for them to use? I'd love to see it in game.

Hi,

First I'd like to thank those who entered this 'Get me in the Game' compo. We did manage to pick the top three winners. (out of only 5 entries) They are..

3D Master: Lazerus
3D Best Model: Visigoth
3D Best Texture Henry Ham

Congratulations on your fine work.

Here is a quick banner I made showing the 5 entries side by side..

Sadly, we feel that these 5 entries are not enough of a foundation to jump start the follow up compo for the programmers.

I take full responsibility for the flop of this compo. I made the mistake of setting the poly (tri's) count too high. It started at 777 tri's for luck, but I bumped it to 1k after some people were having trouble making things in that limit. What I should have done was lower the tri count instead, to like 500 (or even better 250)

What we were thinking for the follow up compo is that the programmers would end up with a bunch of small 'objects', 'pieces', widgets, wall segments, etc. that they could use to build a game around. This was not a programmers compo targeted at the FPSC community. It was going to be for all the programming sections of this board. Dark GDK, DB Pro, DBC, FPSC etc.

At one point in the 'Get me in the Game' compo, it seemed people were having trouble coming up with ideas, I tried to steer you back on track with this post...

Quote: "people having trouble thinking of items that fit a game? Come on, think of any 2D game and make 3D versions of things,. Dice game items, card games, board games, puzzle games, make a car for a racing game, make a plane for a flight racing game, make a pod racer, make some fish for a fishing game, make segments for a maze game, make a ball for a ball game, pinball anyone? 3D bricks for a breakout game, gadgets and gizmo's for strange games, 3D gems for a gem drop game, a rubic's cube game. boxing gloves for a boxing game, boats for a boat racing game, units for a RTS, a 3D putter for a mini golf game, bowling anyone? foooseball anyone? an air hockey table and pieces? shuffleboard? dart board and darts? horse shoes? spear for a Javelin game? Bow and arrows for a target game? a gun and targets for a shooting arcade? Skeet shoot game pieces?

I didn't even take 2 min to run these ideas off. if you're stuck for ideas it's because you're thinking too BIG!

KEEP IT SIMPLE! MAKE IT GOOD!
"

Apparently it had no effect. Oh well, such is life. Not to worry we'll come back with a "Get me in the game 'Take 2'" compo in the summer.

So, time to move on, I'll set up the next compo right after this post. Gratz to the winners once again.

Cheers!

Yay Though did you expect anything else but overkill?

Ill mess about for a while and build loads of little models an stuff. Better yet, ask what type of games they were planning and ill fill out as much as possible. Even better just give me a list lol.

Dont forget joshs' 100 models/128days

I was hoping more people would have entered, like a big rush right at the end. It would have been fun working with all the submissions to make a game. It was a cool idea, and that is why I entered. Looking forward to the next attempt. Good job everyone who did enter, all the models were very cool.
