DarkBASIC Professional Discussion / DBPro install sequence?

Hello to all,

After I installed:

- dbpro_5_4_high.exe download version
- DBProUpdate-U74.exe ARE PREVIOUS UPDATES INCLUDED ???

and then the IDE updates:

- dbpro_ide_109.exe
- ide_exe_109b downloaded editor folder wich over-writes

and then check 'Help - About' in editor.exe,

it says: version 1.054 instead of 1.074.

That is my problem.

Can somebody please tell me the correct way to do it?

The latest update always includes everything prior to it. You don't need to add the ones inbetween incrementally.

However, my 1.074 says 1.074 in the Help, About. What date is your DBProCore.dll? Mine here is 28/6/2009.

after just re-downloading dbpro_5_4_high.exe and installing it, the DBProCore.dll in Plugins folder dates: 26 june 2004.

Yes, version 5.4 is very old and a lot has happened since then.

If you download and install the latest beta (10?) from the first post on this thread:

Public Test - Upgrade 7.5

the date should be 31 March 2010.

I think it must be installing to a different location, so you aren't replacing the files. Do a search to find where else you have this DLL.

I realy don't know what to do now.
When I read through the comments from your link off the Public Test - Upgrade 7.5, all the complaints about crashes and bugs give me a bad feeling.
I would like to use the latest stable working version (if available).

I lost track of the policy behind this product.
Is DBPro a compiler + code editor which is in constant evaluation or is the compiler itself continuasly upgraded as well?

If anybody could tell me please which of the DBPro software I have to use and in what order it has to be installed, I would be very thankfull.

What you seem to have done should work. You just need to make sure when you install the upgrade that it goes to the right folder. For example, on my laptop the installer always defaults to the wrong folder because the first time I installed on that machine I installed a different version of DBPro in a special folder for testing purposes. If I don't pay attention when I install an upgrade then the wrong copy is upgraded and confusion follows till I realise what I've done.

One day I'll get it sorted out. One day ...

I suggest you try again and let us know, step by step, what you did. Don't forget to actually run the installer after unzipping it ... (it's been known ).

Edit You should still have the U7.4 installer on your machine somewhere. Just find it and run it again.

2nd Edit Just re-read your first post. I don't think you need the IDE updates - the latest version comes with the main upgrade (that's true for U7.5beta10 anyway - and I'd suggest you use that as the remaining problems with the editor are very minor really).

Just this:

but to be safe I'd use the latest U75.

I have a vague feeling that the Help About didn't always show (or use?) the right editor version till you clicked Tools/Associate Project and Source Files. The latest U75 betas don't have that problem.

Try U74 on its own and report back. If you're still having problems I'll try the official U74 myself later today and see what happens.

I installed the latest beta 75 wich delivered editorNEW.exe.
In the 'standard' editor.exe - Help>About it now reads v1.075.

Do I understand well that:
- it is the compiler which is updated to 1.075 ?
- the new editor is a story off it's own ?

You should now have the latest build of the editor which is 11 March 2010 which is what you should get if, in DBPro, you choose Help/About DarkBASIC Professional Editor... Is that the date you see?

For this particular beta Lee didn't change the editor, he just improved several parts of DBPro itself. I think Lee was having problems reproducing some of the bugs that people have reported, probably because some of those bugs are rather subtle and only appear when things are done in a specific order in a very specific situation. Overall I'm very happy with both parts of the update - it's just that there are still things to improve even more .
