I havn't really been here for a while as I lost interest in FPSCx10 until recently when I heard that modding was coming to x10.

I have experience programming in C++, so I downloaded the source and opened the included editor. I learned everything was coded in DarkBasic Pro, which coming from C++ seemed less organized and kinda messy, but that may just be me. I saw the compiler was there too, but I clicked it and nothing came up. Do I actually need to own DarkBasic Pro?

Also does anyone know a good resource, it could be free or an book, that would be good for someone like me who know the theory of programming, and just needs to learn all the syntax of DBP?

Hello Zachrb,

I agree with you with the coming from C++/C#/VB coding background into DBP. Both my wife and I are programmers and some of the DBP code does seem a bit untidy. However, it is good to learn, especially working with either x9 or x10.

You do need to own your own DBP application. You can get a free version IIRC, but I don't remember exactly what the link was. Perhaps another here has that for you.

As far as resources, I do have one for you. Both my wife and I are a programming team and we found the following link to be very helpful to get us into the DBP scene.

Hope that helps, and have a good day.

Thanks for the assistance. If anyone has the link to the free version please post. If not once I get done with finals and am back home from college, I will have a summer job again so I can then buy the full version.

The free version was mentioned in their newsletter, issue # 82 back in Nov 2009. I did not see a link in it though. Sorry I could not be more help.

@ Zachrb

Not sure if you have found it yet, but I came across the link for you this morning over my coffee.

Thanks Mate!

Also I recently built a new Desktop PC and getting back into FPSC x10 I find the map editor very sluggy and laggy. If I draw a line like a hallway it skips some of the segments, even if I slow it down.

Here are my specs:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 920 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
8192MB RAM
500 GB
ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series

No problem. you may want to check here and see if you meet the requirements, or contact The Next in that topic to get some info. He seems well versed on what will run/not run x10.

Hmm according to that article it seems ATI cards are not recommended.

It's because you are using Windows 7. Vista is much better for FPSC X10.

Well that sucks because Windows 7 is so much better than Vista.

Actually it runs better on Windows 7 then it does vista. The map editor is fine but the ingame play can be a little worse then vista (Not much of a difference though)

Windows 7, Amd Athlon 7750 Black Editon (64 bit,3ghz + Dual Core), ATI Readon HD 4870 1gb Edition, 4gb Ram.

Hmm but my mapeditor is very laggy for me. As you can see my specs are fairly high, quad core, 8 GB ram, nice graphics card that can run Crysis really well.

Strange, my PC isn't as good as yours (Specs in my sig), I can run Crysis in the highest and my x10 is fine. Are you running any CPU hogging programs ? Programs that waste alot of memory ? Any drivers like motherboard, graphics card drivers not installed or updated ?

All drivers are up to date, I pretty much only have things like Fraps and Steam running in the background. They don't take up much at all.

I opened up resource monitor and with it running my CPU caps out at like 33% and my RAM is at like 25% usage. Not even close to pushing the system.
