Hey guys, I wanted to start this thread to address something that I think every 3d artist should know about. Hand Painted Textures!

Hand Painted Textures really bring out the life and character in your model, and they make the model YOURS, not CGTextures.

Now I'm not saying that Cg Textures is bad, in fact it's wondurful, but I think that people should use a mixture of the two.

I made this thread so that people in the forum who are already great at making hand painted textures (henry, laz, asteric,Jfletcher)can help out people who are new to these kinds of textures, anybody can post WIP textures, questions they have, or a help me! message. And people who are more experianced can make small step-by-steps to show how to paint certain things.

I hope this thread stays alive and I hope everyone uses this thread to there advantage!

And if anyone has links to tutorials, then post them! Help out the community!!

Here's one to the polycount.com 2D Wiki great tuts http://wiki.polycount.net/2D_Tutorials

The only hand painting thing I'm trying hard to learn right now is wood!... Well, I'm not good at this stuff, but I did find this tut to come in hand, (gotta download it) http://www.fpsbanana.com/tuts/7344. Basically it's mostly hand painting and smudging. EDIT: Hell while I'm at it, here's a list of a few tuts. http://www.fpsbanana.com/members/tuts/43732

Looks good but I would lower the opacity on the light parts just a tad so its not so in your face. Otherwise great work.

Mike, you should have added colour variations in before detailing it.

I was following Fletcher and how he does it. I would have done the color before too

Thanks! Yea, I'll do that later

Anyway, Don't want to hijack this thread so please post anything else about it in my thread. Thanks!

Also, I think this would be good as a sticky

Mike you definetly wouldn't be jacking it. That;s what i wanted this thread to be about! Helping others! I think that you should add some lighter/darker colors on another layer and then smudge em
