I wonder if anyone can help- I'm quite new to this. I've imported an entity via pandasoft from 3ds max. It seems to show up ok in fpsc. However, when I shoot at the model it can be hit when the shot is not directly on target. For instance, using the commando and sniper scope, you can zoom in and still fire about 1cm off to the side of the target and it gets hit. Anyone know how to sort this out so the target only gets damaged when it is hit? Is it some sort of scaling problem or something. I just can't figure it out

Use polygon collision when importing the model. That or you have some faces facing backwards.

Bar thme, i dont think i know anything else that can cause it, i think the fpsc models and media would be of more use if you want to ask a mod to move this thread.

You ask if it is a scaling problem... Did you scale the model inside Max? I don't think that it would matter too much, but it could be an issue if you did. What is the object? Is it a complicated mesh?

I personally think this is more of an issue with FPSC and as lazerus said, you may want to ask in an fpsc board.

ok, I've attached the max file- it's basically a 3d model zebra from turbo squid. I had to scale it down in max so that when I imported it into fps it didn't come out huge. I'm not sure I can use polygon collision settings the way that I am exporting/importing it. I use the pandasoft and 'make entity from x file program' which doesn't give you any options like that.

Anyway, cheers for your help. Unless you can think of anything else I'll try the fps board for ideas

Hmm. I downloaded it, but unfortunately, I have an older version of Max (3ds Max 8. I don't want to pay to upgrade. Grrr) and can't open it. It's saying I don't have some of the .dlls required. Maybe someone else here can check the .max file for you.

But...
If it isn't rigged with bones and such, instead of scaling the full model, convert it to an editable mesh, use the vertex selection, select all the verts, then scale those. I know that DBP has issues with scaling and this fixes the issues that I have with it.

Anyways, good luck!

I think i see your problem. Goto the hierarchy tab (Third one along), Affect pivot only, Center to object. Also right click the move tool and enter the values 0, 0, 0 into the x, y and z co-ordinets.

Centering the pivot isn't making a difference unfortunately. I'll have a play with the scaling.

thanks for your efforts

I also noticed that when i insert the entity in fps creator, it is not placed at the centre of the green surround- rather it is slightly off to the side of it.

Make sure that when you export the mesh it is located at 0,0,0 otherwise it is offsetted in fpsc, i had the same issue a while back.

Yep, centered the pivot and also clicked on the model, then the move tool and set the x,y,z co-ordinates to 0,0,0 (see attachment) but doesn't seem to solve the problem.

Oh and remember to run the file cleaner(FPSC creates dbo files which need to be deleted before you will notice any changes)

Good point, and one which I'd forgotten. Had high hopes when I stuck the entity in fps and it was sitting in the middle of the green aura. Unfortunately it doesn;t seem to solve the problem though

Well there is one minor thing out of the way, what type of collision are you using on the entity?

I guess I should know this but I don't. Is collision something you manipulate in DB. If so, I'm not using that, just the fps creator program and there standard scripts. Not particularly creative but If I can get it working it will suit the purpose. Unfortunately I don't know if I can answer your question though- is there some way of finding this out?

I've tried the creator forum board but don';t seem to get much response there. I've attached an example mapbank so people can see what i mean.

Try using entity creator, it creates collision's and all of the rest just by clicking some buttons, and can be found on the FPSC website, if you still need more help, feel free to email me.
