Um how about an online conference, like it takes 5 hours, users upload some videos or playable stuff of their games and being able to chat with the developer of the game.

I like the idea chargerbandit. Its the best since all of us wont be able to visit the event which can be on the other side of the world.

You can't just "host an E3 event". First off, you need to be a developer with notable connections to the game development world. The heads of TGC might be able to get in.

Then how are you going to interest the public with an engine, that compared to anything else at the event, looks like a mere children's toy?

E3 is thinking too big. TGC have had conventions in the past, but I think the last one was in 2008?

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

I think he means something similar to E3, only hosted by TGC and on a smaller scale.

I agree with chargerbandit, because some of us live on the other side of the world and all, and some of us can't afford plane tickets either.

Just having a huge online confrence would be nice though.

It would be pretty cool, for example we set the deadline for entries and stuff at end of summer, then at start of september we host the convention, each entry has it's own part of website where he has chat, picture uploading and videos, maybe demos to download so the users can contact with the developer and ask about some features or anything else.

EDIT:

OK everyone! Me and knxrb decided to take the challenge. We are designing the website for the convention. Names for the convention are welcome.

Concept:

At the homepage, you have details about the convention and how to sign up for a showroom for your projects. Then you can chose these three categories:

-Applications
-Games
-Art and media

The user that leads their own showcase will be able to upload pictures and 640x480 videos that will be streamed. There will be also a chat where users can ask the developer about the project.

There would be also a vote for best upcomming FPS project or best project presentation and winners would get some kind of nice signature, maybe some actual prizes.

ANY IDEAS ARE WELCOME!

If anybody wants to contribute to the project, please let me know. We are still picking for a name but I guess it should be simple and clear:

The Game Creators Convention

As soon as we get some stuff done, expect a thread in Geek Culture.

I guess the limit should be 200-300 megabytes for a decent trailer or a short gameplay video at 640x480 maximum.

Raymondlee306: If your wife wants to,you can design The Game Creators Convention logo in style like E3. Basically we are just copying E3 and making it fully online.

Charger, may i show off some pictures of my game? it would be pretty much early photos of the game due to the fact the levels i have went corrupt some how, so i have to rebuild them one by one.

But, with darkshader bought, installed, and i have gotten bonds shader 3.0 to work, i can finally make the objects look nicer.

So yeah, count me in!

defiler: Somewhere in August we will have the website finished and you will be able to sign up for your showroom. Then you will have access to uploading pictures, videos and layout organising.

syko games: Currently there is no need in organising. If you want, you could do some publicity for the convention like advertising and informing people about it.

Quote: "Currently there is no need in organising."

Even if organising isn't needed I reckon he should still be put as a co-organiser seeing as it was his idea.
Plus it means that if you both know what needs to be done then if one of you is offline then I can talk to the other about what needs to be done.

Quote: "may i show off some pictures of my game?"

Pictures and videos can both be uploaded.

Quote: "I guess the limit should be 200-300 megabytes for a decent trailer"

Done.

Huh. Could I announce a project I have had in the works for it? (By project I mean something other than a game, I have a script pack in the works)

Also, when do you plan on it going on?

Yeah there will be a section for Media and Art which your scripts will fit into. The plan is to collect all entries in August, then somewhere in the start of September we would have the convention which would last from Friday to Sunday.

AWESOME! I will totally be checking that out! Propably it would bring more publicity if you made like a short trailer-ish clip to it (ofcourse when you know when it is) and people would like post it on YouTube and such. Just an idea. I hope this will become annual or something! Truly great!

I have been wondering for sometime if we could advertise for FPSC in the best form and manner. And (i am just brainstorming here.) I think if we could get the best of the community (and others) to compile a relativly short yet showing of the best features of FPSC x9 and release it for free as a sort of "Look what you can do with our amazing product!" maybe we could get others to become more intrested in FPSC. Case and point Wetham's game (I dont remember the name right now) BUT it was his game that made me want to look into FPSC it was short and fun. (but AI was crappy)

My point is maybe we could get more people intrested if we could show of a product thats made by the community of TGC by the best. ?

Just an idea.

Yeah. I mean, I looked at some other forums and such to see what they are talking about FPSC and there is some topics out there. When someone asks about FPSC*, the answer out there is usually it sucks. You can do hallway, but if you put some stuff in there, it lags. And all in that style.

*I am wondering why don't they go to the official community to ask that stuff... would get a better answer from here, than from people that have used the free version or used it for a week, and never looked into the updates and such and went to the internet hating it.

I would suggest doing it properly, as a convention and contacting businesses to try and get them to sponsor the event and set up stalls for the computing products or whatever.

Then availability at the event to play games made by indie developers using FPSC and other TGC based products or whatever.

As said, an E3 scale is not practical or achievable at the minute but if it was more 'interactive' than the conventions and allowed individuals to play and make games while your there that would be cool

You could use some kind of streaming video with a chat, and the developer uses a microphone to answer questions posted in the chat window. Kinda like Livestream, some friends of mine steamed a DoW2 game there a few days ago, and it worked very well. ^^

There should be a button where you can download the game the developer is talking about.

Just one question, would everybody be taking turns presenting the game live, or would it be like a recorded speech and the developer could answer questions in the shoutbox bellow while the recording is playing?

Nice idea but I reckon we should leave the 'letters & numbers' out like 'E3' to prevent any chance of legal action over name copyrights etc.

Something like '1st Annual TGC Online Convention' or 'TGC Online Convention 2010' could work.
