I just started to work on some new weapons. First out is a G36.
I am currently working on the texture.
UV mapped by Alucard94 since I suck at complex UV mapping

C&C is welcome, and please be honest

Looks pretty cool, I've always liked your gun textures, but is it possible to add smoothing groups in milkshape? The scope is looking faceted

Practice, copy other persons techniques in order to find your own way.

Thanks!
The scope is smoothed, but everytime I refresh the texture it gets unwelded and boxy. Have no idea why

Very nice, you should make a low intensity normal map

I will do that

Here is a sidetrack The first ever character which I have made 100% myself, even the UV map

Based upon the Swedish Police Force, Piketen.

Got all the things required in its face to get rigged to Dark Voices. The only problem is that Milkshape tends to go slow and lagg a lot when importing the skeleton...

fingers are very long and alienish, i would tweak those hands a lot more and you can easily pump in a few more polies to those shoes aswell. The face looks a bit...
weird, now unless you are going for a toony look i would redo the face a bit

I edited the face a bit, and made a basic texture for it.

It's quite challenging to make organic modelling in Milkshape.

Could you please tell me what areas look weird? It would help a lot.
The shoes are allready at 72 pollies, I dont want to add much more. But is there a special area of the shoes you have in mind?

The alienish fingers is due to the angle, otherwise they look better But I will take a look at them and see if I can improve anything.

i actually like it, it is easier than making a gun for example imho

72 polies? THATS NOTHING. And no, i just thought that the shoes needs a bit of work over all

I think it is alot better but to be honest, it would look 100 times better if you put more into the helmet and give him a face mask of some sort, like in this pic, i literally looked up Swedish Polis and they are wearing balaclava like mask.
http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?60380-Swedish-police-pic-s
but add like a pair of googles and if you do a high poly, do some wrinkles where the stitch is sewn on.

Maybe if you find yourself a method
I will probably learn a way pretty soon.

The character is 3788 pollies, with all magpouches etc, so I dont want to increase that too much.
But I believe I could spare a few pollies.

I know that they most of the times use the balaclava, but I wanted to make a character which would work with DarkVoices.
But I will make some different version of this guy

Yeah, Piketen is the swedsih S.W.A.T.

Quote: "the police in sweden doesnt look like that out on the streets xD

Of course they do. Heavily armed policemens at every corner
Nah, not really...

Quote: "i know but i saw you were going for a heavily armoured version so i looked for something similar to what you were going for.

This is what I based it off:

I am trying to get a more generic look, so that the character could act as a American soldier as well as a swedish police.

idk all your ages, but there was a movie i watched called Rampage, and it was very violent, not very appropriate for immature people. and basically it was a guy thought there were too many people in the world and everyone in the town was a jerk to him all the time ,so he went on a 'Rampage' but one part he sent a VanB(omb) (<<<XD) and it blew up the police station and he had like 30 minutes of no police to go psycho on every1 in the town.

So @cyborg, not necessarily xD

But it feels like the thread is going a bit off-topic.

hahah sorry for my off topic rants

And that is nice! But it looks like some texture stretching on the end of the gun under the slide, although its so minor i wouldnt worry.

Yo cyborg, I've said this to tons of people, but I think you should start trying Next-gen, you're already very good at last-gen weapons and i think its time to make the move

you would need to

a) make a high poly model
b) make the low poly model
c) unwrap the low poly according the smoothing groups
d) bake the normal map
e) texture and done

unfortunatly, i dont think milkshape can handle all that

There are videos on asteric and I's livestream that goes through all this

Then I would need some higher grade softwares. Which probably would have a higher price.

But this is what i am at.

it seems to me that you think that any model thats not next gen is lacking in some way ,most of us on here model for fpsc & its a last gen engine so it would be a waste of time.

also not everyone has all the software that is needed for nextgen stuff.

& some are just happy to make models they think look good

nice work on the hammer Cyborg

cheers henry

Agree with you, henry ham.
I feel secure with "last gen", so I dont want to jump into something new until I know everything I want to know from "last gen".

But I guess we all have to move on sometime, I bet there aren't many people still making models with the same detail as the first doom or quake

And what is the definition of next gen? Violently highpoly models with every shadermap avaiable?

The hammer looks really nice. I could definitely see it rigged to an FPSC melee animation. Nice work on that one.
The G36C looks cool, although I don't remember clearly what the G36c looks like my mind is telling me that yours is a little off. Take nothing of it though I'm just guessing, I could be totally wrong. Solid model indeed.

Check out my new model pack:

well, some crits

Hand are to flat, push em out bro

feet are noticably blocky, add some polies there and round em out. and remember smoothing groups are your friend

The arms and legs are just tubes, of course its thick clothing but its going to have some irregularities and some features to make it more organic

Now, on to the textures.

Alot of it is just flat color. Not good. Add shading and highlighting to add detail since you're not using a normal map. This will add so much more to your texture. You should also add slight color layers to give it more life.

Hope this helps

@ henry - not undermining last gen at all, in fact, I love last gen, your last gen stuff is great, and nothing beats a well done last gen character, check out the site of ben mathis or duncan fraser. I'm just saying that next gen is great for building up skill

Will make them a little more "non-flat"

Didnt weld everything together before I took the screenshot

They have, but its hardly notciable from the front.

The areas with flat color (grey?) havent got their texture yet, like the shoes, helmet and mask. But I am working on it.
Most parts got shadings allready.

well I'm talking about in general your texture is a little weak, I can't see the shading very well, goto http://poopinmymouth.com/3d/3d.htm and look at his work, he's a god of last-gen, and all of his stuff is downloadable, I suggest you download general delilah and mr.mint. You should also download his videos, I'm not much of a painter myself, I think he'll explain everything a whole lot better
