EDIT - Apologies for being off topic here...

@Zwarte Piet
Hey buddy - in another thread you mentioned a tutorial that you did on modelling/rigging/creating characters....would it be possible to get hold of this tutorial (and any others that show how to animate characters)

Cheers Bud...

Zwarte, I thought while I was waiting on the next model I would go ahead and start making the models for the whiskey outpost. Here is a look at the textures so far.

Well since everyone is jumping in and making models for this I figured I'd throw my hat in the ring too. Not sure if anyone will use it because of the size of the thing but I'm in the process of making the Fleet Carrier. I'll post a WIP image of it once I get more done on it.

Wow Thats great VoicesDark Here is a sight with some good pics of a sky carrier close to the the bottom of the page.

http://www.therpf.com/f10/need-pics-starship-troopers-model-31583/

@ Design Runner, I just google searched starship troopers, using the images search.

@ Nigezu and LondonKid . I didn't think of the request as much as what a great idea, and challenge. I loved the movie.

This really will be a community pack..lol

On that note, a quick suggestion, perhaps modifieing the aliens and ships a little bit so that we can actually use them in game without infringing upon copy right.

It is a non-commercial community production. Correct me if i'm wrong, but that means it is not copyright-infringement?

I think a skyhook nor any other Starship Troopers stuff are trademarks so it shouldn't be a copyright-infringement as long as the models aren't stolen (which they aren't) and you don't use someone's images as textures (which you aren't doing).

On the other hand, it doesn't matter if a project was commercial or non-commercial, it's still a copyright infringement to use and distribute copyrighted stuff in general without permission. As long as these models aren't claimed as official Starship Troopers stuff there shouldn't be a problem.

I hate it when people start talking about copyrights, so let me clear this up right quick. This is a starship troopers inspired pack, not a pack of ripped models.

Well now that this is getting attention, I think we should start up a more official thread about the pack rather than this request thread. That is if everyone else thinks we should take it that far

Its a non-commercial non-profit fan inspired model pack made by fans of the movie for their personal enjoyment only.

You can't get fairer than that, an i don't think fans building models or graphics of their favorite film props or charscters is copyright infringement...i mean look at all the fanbase for Star Wars an their stuff...

This is exiting stuff...lol...

Better ask Starmind about that. He's handeling the animations.

I Think some cool props would be neat also. "Helmets", grenades, ammo boxes, "Cargo crates", stuff with federation logos on 'em. You know, Stuff you can put here and there to enhance the environment.

I'll make some dead bugs, and body parts. Troopers was loaded with plenty of that.

I thought you all might like this. It's the first level of the Whiskey Outpost. When I get the arachnid animated and some of the other models done I will make a quick video of al of it. Enjoy!

Edit: This is the first time I have made a complex mesh to get a texture. The floor is seamless as well as the walls.

Anything in the troopers world. Would be glad to have more people onboard.

EDIT: I could use a good scripter. I cannot seem to get one animation to work ingame. This being the melee animations.

Guys,

I was simply browsing the web - as you do - and decided to search on Google images for Starship Troopers - and a plethora of material came up...and here are just some sites which I think may be of reference to you guys in building these models:

A Reference Website
http://www.trooperpx.com/MainIndex.html

Videos and Pics of the official PC game

http://media.pc.ign.com/media/568/568303/imgs_1.html

Ship Models

Not sure about this...but looks liek a fan multiplayer game...

mgarand: The first movie is absolutely excellent (considering its satirical nature) while the two next are so mind blowingly bad they almost wrap around and become great...

It should be noted that the first movie had more than ten times the budget of any of the later installments.

The movies on IMDB.com: 1 - 2 - 3

Okay three days later and me asking myself "what the hell was I thinking??!!" The big fleet ship is done. This was by far the biggest and most complex model I've ever worked on. When I was searching for some good reference photos I found some variants too, so I didn't do an exact replica..more like a highly inspired by but it also has all the look and the feel of the ones in the movies.

The only problem with this is I couldn't even begin to remotely think of how to uvmap and texture it...so either someone else is going to have to texture it, or I can texture it using Sketchup. I'm gonna post up a image of it for now because I still have some last second touch-ups and the file conversions to do yet.

Please let me know what you think of it as well.

looks good is it a solid mesh or several meshes, If it is seperate meshes I have an idea how to map it.

@Zwarte: I think it's all one mesh, at least when I created it was all one, but I'm not sure how it exported out.

Anyways I finished cleaning it up and converting it so I'll attach the .rar file with the different file conversions. I don't know what the FPSC scaling is and it seemed to convert in a huge scale so it'll probably have to be converted down, optimized (think I got the blender file optimized as much as possible) and then textured and everything. Sorry for not doing the whole thing myself, but this is only the 6th model I've ever made.

PS: I also have the files in .zip format if someone needs that

main Starship Troopers objects that no one has mentioned making yet are: The Obsticle course from basic training (1st movie), "punishment square" where Ricco got his lashes (maybe someone better than me could make that with a charcter tied up with lash marks on his back?), washout lane (1st movie), The huge monitor at basic training where they found out Buenos Aires was attacked, the mini crawling insects that were swarming around the brain bug, the escape pod, and the huge artillery bugs and big ant type super bug (sorry forgot its name)

anyways just some ideas...I might have a crack at the escape pod in a while.

I am working on the basic training stuff along with the whiskey outpost. I believe Zwarte is getting more of the bugs.

They are chariot bug, hoppers, plasma bugs and tanker. Here's the list.

think we all got bugs on the brain...but better than having bugs in the brain. Speaking of which anyone planning on doing the brain bug from the third movie?? I'll see if I can find any reference photos of it in case you haven't seen the third movie.

Found a really good Maruader reference photo as well as ones for the parasite bug and the artillery bug if you need another reference photo for it..attaching them all as a rar file

Wow, I just stumbled across a great reference site. http://www.trooperpx.com/RSTC/RSTCweapons.html

I'm working on the Grenade Launcher X and the Constrictor.

EDIT: Screenshots of constrictor attached, tell me what you think!
EDIT2: wow that is over 2,000 polys. Any suggestions on how to lower it?

okay I got the escape pod model done both with and without the track so I'll get that uploaded so someone can do the texturing and all. For the model of the escape pod with the track the pod is hovering a little bit above the track. Sorry but wasn't sure what the best way to do it was for whoever is going to texture it. attaching .obj files hope they're okay nothing ever seems to convert well.

I'm working on a helmet right now and texturing the sky hoo I wil make the little crawley brain bug protectors a mantis, and a plasma beetle. I have been busy with my new job earning christmas money. So far it will be a good christmas

I was thinking if some one could do some segments with craters, the bugs could spawn out of would be nice. I may make them if no one else does.

This pack has a model for everyone. No matter the skill level, we need boxes, if you can make a box and texture it. We want it. Thank you

Zwarte, sent you an email.

I did some work on the segments and the skybox. I made two skyboxes and the ramp for the inside of the outpost. Working the upper platforms now. Here is a peak at the newly made segment and skybox.
