Wanted to say how easy DBP is to learn if you've already had some basic experience. Found the editor to be a big downfall as it has some serious bugs. My first project - a slots machine. Had the working front end done in 8 hours. Will add some logic to make it more interesting.
Will post final program if anyone interested.
Thanks for these forums, they have helped enormously, so I intend to contribute only positive things.

If I only had the time...

It's quite fun! Yes, there are some problems with the IDE. I personally use BlueIDE, however there is a new one being made by Stab In The Dark Software that is looking very attractive.

I found Indigo to be excellent. Thanks for the comment.

BTW I'm new to 'includes'. I have an understanding of the principles, but have not yet explored them. Is there a library of dll's that have been contributed for things like 'file requesters' or 'print' functions thatis easily available?

In DBpro they are usually called `plugins`, so if you search the forum there are loads for all sorts of applications. Some are almost required if you want to get the most out of DBpro. There's a lot of free plugins, and TGC also sell some, usually aimed at a particular area of development (Like 3D, 2D, modelling etc)

DBPro would only be a shadow of itself without user contributed plugins.

best plugins EVAR:

IanM's Matrix1Utils - TONS of useful commands. oodles and oodles.
anisotropic filtering - small plugin - makes textures look better when viewed at oblique angles.
Sparky's Collision - plugin to handle 3d collision, sliding collision, and raycasting.
Newton Physics - if you want a bunch of crates rolling down a hillside with accurate physics, you'll pretty much need this plugin or one like it.

I agree. Without user plugins, I don't think DBPro would be very functional for coding good programs.

@ Java Man,

Welcome to the forums, it's nice to see a growing community of users.

If you find some bugs, then you can report them in the "Bug Reports" board. Programs are never insect free.

Here are my plugin recommendations for all who use the forums. I know you are new to programming, but in the future you could use some of these plugins.

Besides all the plugins that Neuro Fuzzy said.

Direct 3D - VERY fast commands for 2D and 3D.
AdvancedSPRITES - VERY fast commands for sprites. (Since download link is broken on the thread, here is the download) - Download
BBB GUI - Making windows GUI for programs.
Image Kit V2 - Great for image manipulation.
Multisync v1.0 - Great networking and multiplayer support.

There lots more plugins I use, but there are a few major ones that are more common. If you like all these plugins there more I could recommend.

And here is the thread that has most of the plugins listed. Thread

By the way, it's not updated very much, so you will find most of the recent plugins from the "Work in progress", "Program Announcements" and "DLL Talk" boards.
