Hi all, Well this new "Sci-Fi" pack is done, and ready for purchase. This pack's focus is on sci-fi eye candy

FPSC media toolbox.

The pack contains:

85 mixed segments

63 new entities

Important note: You must have Bond1's "FREE" Tangent-basis, and sprite-atlas animation shaders installed, for the pack to work properly.

Get them here!!!

Thanks buddy, I'm sure you'll find some useful stuff in this pack. If this does well, I will consider a few expansion packs of the same style down the road.

I need to contact Bond1, and see see if there are some tweaks to his shaders, that could be made to help in the creation of certain entities I have planned. specificly, a good normal mapping shader that supports illumination, for entities.

Thanks Again!

SWEET! These will be great for the scifi game I want to make! I was thinking about developing the game with only media made by me, but being a rookie modeler, the thought makes me shudder. So I think I will use your Model Pack, CP, as I think it will work very nicely with my game. If I can get my hands on it. It may be awhile, I'll see what I can do.

Thanks again,

This usually means that the editor cant find the mesh. try re-installing the "Meshbank" from the download.

Nickydude: All the .fps, and .fpe files already have the shaders that each piece needs written in. So all you need to do is install the shaders in your effectbank, and your good to go.

And thanks again for work on the new sounds.

Then I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I have the first animated pillar 'piller 2' in a room but nothings animated, what is supposed to happen?

Also are the monitors ("scifi monitor 7(desk)") supposed to be animated as all I see is a black screen.

I'm getting the same thing. Also the sci-fi chair is white, I tried locating the texture in the texture bank and it is missing. Everything else is there. Some of the models are missing. They appear as balls but their texture is there. I can give you a full list of everything not working in email if you would like CP.

So far Dale the only issue we have is the SciFi chair is missing the texture. For some reason it comes in purple in color (white in the editor), as do a couple of pillars and the desk (in the editor they are normal with the texture). Not too sure why, as I never use shaders, so that could be our end. But the chair texture for sure is not available.

The screens and such all work perfectly for us. We have not found anything that was in "white-dot" state.

And we used the download you supplied for the test.

Video removed... fix supplied...

The textures in this are so good I wouldn't even have to retexture them.(I'll do it anyway, because I'm insane)

Cosmic somehow managed to get from textures that served their function to grade A awesomness. They all have this dence feel of Doom3 to them. Inclduing perfectly working shaders...even without overdone specular effects.

Thats just great and will most likely improve everything scifish I do in the future a whole lot. Thanks dale!

Does this mean we have to own Bond1's Metro Theatre Pack for this to work?

If that is the case, I think just those 2 packs together would utterly transform any FPSC game!

Now I just need to persuade the missus, that buying those 2 packs really would be a great idea!!

First, a big thanks to everyone involved for this great pack

I had issues with some of the shaders myself and found the following solution:
- Check the .fpe of a sample model of a group (a room, a monitor, an entity, etc) for the "effect" entry.
p.e.:effectbank\ps_2_0\entities\diffuse_spriteatlas_4x4_2fps.fx
- then go to your "effectbank" folder and simply search the folder for the effect.
p.e: diffuse_spriteatlas_4x4_2fps.fx
- If you have found it, create a NEW folder that matches the path in the .fpe. Do NOT rearrange anything - just copy&paste
- If you haven't found it, check the above posted thread(s) for the missing shaders.

Unfortunately I still have some issues
- a missing chair texture
- the trimroof_1 and trimroof_2 appear textureless in the editor while looking ok ingame.
- the "top walls" only seem to match room/walls from the "military" design (military_9 has the identical texture) which is a) not clear when using the segments (the folder should be called military top walls) and b) a little...well, I'd expected at least the whole range for each of the room groups (bare metal, blue room, industrial, military).
- Its a little annoying that ALL monitors are set to ground level. I'd had expected the wall monitors to appear in head-height and the ceiling monitors to appear... well, right under the ceiling. I DO know how to change their height in the editor but it's impossible to get a group of them aligned that way. So now I'll have to customize the .fpe files with trial and error until I have it right.

But however - it's a great pack, worth every cent it costs, and I can wholeheartily recommend it to anyone, it's usable for a lot more than just SciFi levels (but it does make me WANT to start working on an SciFi game RIGHT NOW)

Ok my friends, I just re-loaded the pack from the install files. I built a level and used every item in the pack.

I found the chair issue. It seems I forgot to move The textures from the old creation folder before the install was made.

There was also 4 directory errors, for the floor/ceiling segments, and the dead space style "Glasswall" ( which is a segment that contains a glass entity, and was showing a "white dot" for the entity).

Everything else is working great. I have have included a fix here, and in the first post that resolves the issues found. replace the existing files with these, and your good to go!

As our good friend Storyteller said, be sure your shaders are installed to the proper directory that match the .fpe, and or .fps files, or the stuff won't work.

Also be sure to set your editor for "Full Shaders" on.

This fix will be included in all future purchases as well.

Thanks, and sorry for the typo's in the pack.

Your pal Cosmic.

In hindsight, I realize I should have made a small manual to go with this.

The topwalls were deliberatly made so that I, or anyone could easily retexture them to suit they're needs. All you have to do is change the D, and D2 textures to anything you want. You can use the exsisting "N", and "I" maps "as is", with nearly any base metal texture you want to use.

Like this...

Only change the "D", and "D2" textures. as you need.

Thanks for the C&C, and the kind words my friend.

I'm afraid I was still not getting any anims, even after applying the fix.

Checking the fpe for animated 'piller 2' I noticed the effect path is:

effectbank\ps_2_0\entities\diffuse_spriteatlas_4x4_2fps.fx

but when looking in the effect folder the path actually is:

effectbank\ps_2_0\entities\dynamic\diffuse_spriteatlas_4x4_2fps.fx

Changing the fpe to this path got me my animated pillar.

It seems like some of the fpe's are missing the dynamic folder out; the animated pillars and the desk-based monitors. Adding the dynamic back in the fpe path makes the anims now appear.

The Animated pillers folder contains a collection of retextures of my original Cosmic Pillers. most have animated screens added on, but there are also some that have been redone to use the stock illumination shader.

There where only a few, so I tossed them in there, rather than make a new folder for just 1-2 entities.

Ahhh!, It seems my Shader directory is different from some of yours.
Thanks for that my friend.

I would love too see some screenshots of what you guys come up with, using stuff from the pack. "hint, hint"

Have fun!!

Maybe a tiny competion where the winner gets to choose the theme for a new monitor animation? (hint, hint).

PS: CP, did you learn the trick thith the animated shaders for the monitors on your own or is there somewhere on this forum a "public" tutorial how to do this?

That's an easy fix. All one has to do is edit the fpe files for screen_big2 and screen_big3. Seems the desc and the texture path has "screen_big" for those two instead of having "screen_big2" and "screen_big3" in the desc and the texture path. Once edited, they are corrected.

I'm still picking thru it to see if I can find ANYTHING else.

You set it up, and choose a winner, and I'll do a set of 3 new screen animations based on the winners theme to be used on the monitor of choice. Or you guys can post some ideas of the kind of stuff you need, and I'll see what I can come up with.

Back in the days when shooters only used animated sprites for most of the in-game graphic effects, including characters. I spent many long hours modding games like the original Doom, and Duke Nukem, as well as "Marathon" ( Back then, only available for the MAC) and came with an editor called Forge. Which in a lot of ways was similar to FPSC in respect to editing in an actual 3D environment.

Ahhh, The good old days!

Adapting those skills for use with bonds shader was not really hard at all.

Another small note about the blue screen monitors, If you look carefully you will notice that there are 2 different difuse textures used for the monitors. One is mono-toned, and the other 2-toned (light and dark).

You can choose between the "D", and "D2" varients on all or none of the monitors. Just copy, paste and rename. Then assign the animation you want.
