Results are in......
I would like to thank all the fpsc users and non-users that helped shape the entries for submission in the contest for the 2011 Defy the odds.
After lots of plays throughs, and various meetings talking about small and large features, some more hidden than others and some scenes where you could just stop and look around and take in the vibe of the game. Have made some interesting results... as follows.

Comments from judges:
Very nice custom texture work, reminded of L4D. Some levels looked great (like the scene with the d-head on wall through bars) except some other levels could of had some extra detail to blend a little more. Apart from that small suggestion, nice wondering game. However having no video lost a few bonus points. Keep up the great work.

Great Voice acting, made the player feel right in the testing facility. Really impressive use of cans with added abilities and pop up magazines (with penguins) added some extra humour to the voice over.
One thing was noted was a difference of clean intro screens/modern (Can brands - new modern) to a run down low budget/bloody testing facility. This may be something we overlooked in your theme direction or story. However having a blend of intro/screens and game themes (not just the machines) may have scored higher. Just a suggestion as we did like the direction of the game and hope this game goes further, as it had great gameplay with testing the player to beat their score. Keep up the great work.

Really great effort with this title and was very close to scoring the Design award. A complete package game, with great Intro, GUI, Audio (Soundtrack and Voice over work). Level design was a standard building feel, yet worked and looked good. The game resembled Another World (80's game) theme and it was the time machine level that really drawed the player in the find out more.Hope to see this go the a complete finish release. All the best.

What can be said... A game we were not expecting to see, taking a FPS engine and making a overhead title. And further more it was not just good, but great.
Clean package game covering all elements in Design, Audio, Technical and Visual standards and going that one step further.
Great features also added to the points for this title, Package drops, GUI addons, Great Dev Diary and Video docs of progress.
The devs on this one did miss out on the bonus early entrant points, however they did a great job on the release and could see this being a commercial release in the future and a stepping stone for fpsc. Congrats.

Congratulations to all, and high fives to H&K for winning.

The feedback was really appreciated.

Cheers to Defy for hosting and to everyone who added to the humongous prize list!

It was a great contest and it really helped in motivating me finish a project that I may have abandoned.

Congrats to everyone. I kept a close watch on the work you guys put into this, and we all know it was a lot. Believe me, if you guys keep at this you could make a designer of yourselves in the professional career world. I can't wait to see what the next (if there is one) contest yields. unfamilia, be sure to send me an email in regards to your prize.

Hi WINNERS, can you all email me. I need to know which email address to use for your vouchers.

Kravenwolf & Hockeykid, I need to know what the split is to be between you both, 50/50?

Send you emails to me at [email protected] (and also mention what your forum name is too).

Thanks,

Rick

Thanks Rick.

If all the winners can confirm details with Rick, I have passed on the info to Rick for prizes.

Also I beleive Kraven is away at the moment, however if Errant AI and Nickydude are able to make contact with Kraven/HockeyKid or vice versa would be appreciated to arrange that side of prize donations
so that correct details are given etc..

Thanks to Design Runner, for following up on prize also.

And I have also contacted Doomster about prize pack split, just waiting on a confirm (If Doomster is reading, sent you mail)

Thanks again to Rick and TGC and all prize donators.

I have been for awhile, but I'm back again. Had a pretty rough start to the new year and have a lot of catching up to do. Defy, thanks for hosting this competition. Hockeykid and I have received our prize from Rick/TGC, and Jake's prize has also been taken care of. Thanks again for bringing us the competition Defy, TGC, Keith, Jake, and everyone else involved. Had a lot of fun and hope to see another one soon.

For anyone wondering, my weapon request to Errant AI was for my favorite [burst-fire] handgun, the VP70.

Thanks to everyone that made this competition happen and to everyone that entered.

KravenWolf, That's a mighty fine looking handgun sir! Is the ammunition stored int the stock?

The stock actually doubles as a case where the gun can be stored. The pistol is semi-fire standalone, but with the stock attached, you can toggle the selector to enable it's 3 round burst mode. So in short, unless you collect the stock (or "spare gun parts" for the Resident Evil fans ), the weapon can't fire in burst mode.
