FANTASTIC!! Now we'll be able to use media that requires the game directory to be protected in an ecrypted file!

Quote: "Compression methods provides good compression rate and high speed"

This makes me very happy - the smaller file size for games, the more of them I can download!

Quote: "Runs in virtual file system from user level, no admin privileges necessary"

Nice...

Quote: "Add splashscreen image for loading screen"

Err - clarification please? Does that mean we don't get to create our own loading screens, or is the splash screen for while the game unpacks? Wait - I'm assuming it uses a TGC loading screen. Will it use one specified by the user?

Quote: "Auto save Mode"

Good

Quote: "Configurable storage location"

Excellent!

Quote: "Password protection"

Love extra security

Quote: "No temporary files"

Fantastic!

The only con is the price - $35 USD is a bit high for a compressor, but you've gotta pay to look pro, so I may as well bite the bullet and buy it. Besides, I've been needing something to motivate me to earn extra cash, I think this and a few model packs will do the trick!

It looks like TGC isn't letting go of FPSC yet

All the best,

I own smart packer pro, which is the full featured version that can be used to pack anything you want. Same developer.

I will vouch for the QUALITY of the software and the QUALITY of support. They always get back with me on my questions through email, no matter how small or big my issue.

Well worth the money spent.

I have no idea if this is a a very dumb question so please excuse any ignorance on my part.

Will this work with FPSCx10 games? Can it be set up to install directx10 if required?

Judging by the Chugshot gun they have in a screenshot in the link, I'd say it probably does work with X10.

You can add an own image as splashscreen. The splashscreen is shown during unpacking files in the virtual filesystem.

@That Guy John
Thanks for the nice comments!

@srealist
It should also work with FPSCX10. DirectX10 needs to be installed already. Maybe in future we can add a feature which installs DirectX10 if required.

that is THE main thing with all the packers, same for dx9.0c for x9. since microsoft dx-downloader doesnt support these 2 versions neccessary for both tgc-products anymore, you have to find another way to deliver the dx to the players of your games, getting a full commercial license for it.

question: does this work with all the gamelaunchers out there? GUI-x9 for sure, but also sg-launcher and vishnu-launcher? would be nice.

I'm not sure I get the whole idea of this, so a few questions please.

1. Is this the same as the previous "Pro" version?
2. Does it pack any type program (VisualBasic, C++, etc)?
3. Will the result act like an "installed" program? By that I mean will changed files be saved within the executable, so that next time it is run the changes will be there?
4. Once the program/game is packed, is it possible to inject program/game updates?

Thanks.

It is not tested but it will probaly work with most of them.

@xplosys
1. FPSC V-Packer uses the same run-time engine but has less features compared to Smart Packer Pro.
2. No this tool is only ment for FPSCreator games.
3. Yes
4. No. However with Smart Packer Pro this is possible.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably get Smart Packer Pro, but I'll have to wait until I have a program ready to distribute to justify the price. You have some great solutions on the website.

Similar product / price for an AGK packer?

That would be nice!

Looks like a great product, FPSC has long suffered from making it easy to make games that people find hard to distribute!

mrniceguy, will v-packer allow multiplayer support? if so:
would it still be able to run completely normal. Could I still write and change scripts and other stuff from within the game, and outside?

is v-packer multi-layer compatible (could I pack a game, make a launcher via game maker pro, then pack the game and launcher together).

Better yet, can you pack non-fpsc files?

FPSC V-Packer doesn't change any files so it should run normally.
Same for multi-layer compatibility.

Non-fpsc files can be included.

Totally gonna check out the trial right now. If only a directx 9 install was built into it that'd be extra nice lol

where it says "The Packed executable can only run on the machine on which it is built".

Does that only apply to the trial version? or the full version too?

I build a maze in FPSC as an executable and then run it on a different PC. The maze is moderately complex and the PC is a bit dated, so it takes the executable a while to load. Would using FPSC V-Packer (or Smart Packer Pro) make the maze load faster?
Thanks for the great advice on the forum!

It really depends of certain factors. The construction of the maze and the PC where it is running.

There is a trial version (first post) which you can use for testing.

Thank you for the fast and honest response.
I just tried out the trial version. It did not really speed up the loading time on this PC, but it is so nice to have a single exe file! Also, the exe file size is less than 45% of the game directory. The interface and manual are very clean and the compile time is fast.
I'm going to order it right away.
Thanks again.

Okies, I will chime in,
I bought SmartPackerPro.
I did have some issues with it a first. I had just upgraded my computer with a mess of new improved componets.
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz

Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB 7.6
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 7.8
Gaming graphics 4095 MB Total available graphics memory
Primary hard disk 732GB Free (932GB Total)
Issue was I had to get Windows 7 Home Premium and installed
64bit.
Being a Dos4 user then Centos and win 98 to XP I was infuriated at the restrictions Win7 imposed. My first task was to gain total control of this invasive operating system as I had decided I was going to make computer games. And ordered DarkbasicPro after looking at 6 game making programs.

Well in obtaining as much control as I could from Win7 I found it really caused issues with some programs, Like SmartpackerPro, who needed access to memory and specific instruction sets. However with a furry of emails to SmartpackerPro the issues resolved themselves.

SmartPackerPro is a good program, I do recommend it.
It will pack ( so far) any program you make. I have used it with
Vishnu FPSC packer, and Infector and
The Zombie Killer
http://forumfiles.thegamecreators.com/download/2341701
and programs I have made in weird scripting languages that compile into a exe.

PS on your web site you say you will make addons for SmartpackerPro, and FPSC V-Packer. I need such a addon.
I have a game that is 20 levels, and it has to be compiled into 5 4 level games to use SmartpackerPro most effectively. (so the games run fast).
What is the cost to make this please so the games run one after the other? Or even with a selection menu.

Hi, I assume you're referring to the plug-ins page.

The plug-in system in Smart Packer Pro gives you the possibility to develop your own plug-ins (own functionality).

Please be aware that a packed executable runs in a virtual filesystem so there must be enough resources when these are large levels.

Due to large projects we currently don't have time to develop a customized version.

My advice for this scenario would be to use a launcher which starts packed executables so you can play per level. This will use less resources.

Next week I will try to investigate this further.

Most Windows 7 restrictions can be bypassed so don't cause any problems at all, the only problem I find with Windows 7 is it don't write to files if they are in programs folder.

Does this mean that the larger the game, the longer FPSC V-Packer takes for the user to load? Is there a solution like mentioned to make this more reasonable for a large game project?
I've run tests for multiple maps sharing textures but my project will be pretty huge at the end. Does it unpack the entire thing in order to play? Hopefully there can be a solution for this or people won't want to buy such a game. Loading a sub-set of levels would be really really helpful- or anything to guarantee a reasonable unpack time. (I'm a paid customer by the way not just complaining )

If there are more packed files it will take more time to load but because the files are loaded in a virtual filesystem the performance should be the same.

Well I took mrniceguy's advice about having a small footprint for your games and I have made a program that
runs one game after another that is packed in Smartpackerpro.

I build each level as it it made. Then use smartpackerpro to make it a standalone exe game file then put them all into my program where each level runs one after the other.
I just tested it with a 21 level game, where each of the 21 levels is a separate smartpackerpro file.
It was fast, as each level was it's own game. but the user sees it all as one large game.

I kinda got the idea from Section 812, Ched80, s4real, Black Fox, and The Zombie Killer.

still need to capture the win from each level as they can only play level one then two and so on. Right now you can just open each level save the game or lose and start the next level with out actually winning the previous level. My skill set is not the best so it's trial and error. :Lots of errors

Hi,

I'm having issues with the packaged games now. When I first run the exe, the game loads fine. Any time after that I get the following error messages:

Invalid size or checksum of file or unsupported compression format - native error 00008: File processing error, disk is possibly full

Cannot create file "D:\jeux\slender sanatorium\SanatoriumV1.1.exe" - Native error: 00019. File processing error, possibly disk is full

Any idea what the problem is/how to fix it?

This error message is not familiar to me.

Did you use a different location as target? Are some of unpacked files already compressed or even UPXed?

Also try to build again to see if this helps.

I selected the game exe in the exectuable field, and chose a target on the desktop to compile the exe. I then moved the exe into a different folder, and packaged it with WinZIP.

I did try rebuilding and the same thing happens - runs fine first time then gives error messages afterwards. I learned of this as someone emailed me to report it, I then tested it and got the same error message :/

Do I need to use a different target location each time?

EDIT: Clicking ignore causes an error

It is not necessary to use a different target location each time.
But make sure the source (path) does not contain other unneeded files. All subfolders in the source path are included during the building process.

Perhaps some file corruption has occured on your harddrive so please reinstall Smart Packer Pro.
