Hey Everyone,

I have no experience at coding and i'm looking to put together a team of people just like me who have never coded in our lives. We would learn from scratch and work on building games together. Of course, experienced coders could join us too! All you have to do is just post below saying you would like to join the team!

Something I would like to point out is that everything we do will be from scratch. No DarkMATTER, no GC Store etc. Things like Milkshape, Genetica and Cartography Shop/3DWS will be used. We would also sometimes sell our games.

Once again all you have to is do just post below saying you would like to join the team. Please don't let this thread die guys.

Thanks !

I am still a NOOB at heart and would like to recommend some resources and tools I wish I checked out when I first started.

Check these out and become comfortable very quickly.

Advanced2D: Use in place of standard 2D commands; they are somewhat redundant
Matrix1 Utilities: Free essential commands commonly used by many
Dark Dynamix / Dark Dynamix LITE (Free): Use for PhysX accelerated collision and physics
Blitz Terrain / Blitz Terrain Basic (Free): Generate nice terrains for your game, don't use Matrices
BBB GUI: Use for windows interface elements such as buttons
Top GUI: Add windows, buttons and textboxes that you can fully override (Advanced)
Box2D - Physics for 2D or 2.5D games such as platformers
Mapscape - Free alternative to 3D World Studio
TreeIt and Tree Party - Create your trees. Far too complex to create in 3DWS/MapScape

How Tos
TDK's tutorials: How to get started with programming.
Hands on DBPRO: Something to aid your initial learning
Basic programming commands you should memorize
INI Files and loading and saving data
3D World Studio video tutorials - All the basics of modelling and lighting
Other Video tutorials (including Dark Dynamix miniature golf )
How to use memblocks: Getting an understanding of memblocks
Loading 3D from blender and applying textures into blender

While it might seem like a good idea, collectively learning something new together, it is the blind leading the blind. I know you said experienced coders are welcome, but I would very much recommend you have one in the team so you do not develop any bad coding practices.

From someone who first started programming by teaching myself and eventually doing it professionally, you'd be surprised how different things can be.

Feel free to browse my site. It has tutorials, snippets, and a nearly up to date database of all coding challenges (DBC and DBP) we've done on this forum.

I would not recommend forming or joining a team until you are confident writing functions and subroutines and know about program structure. It's difficult to coordinate people and integrate several people's code at the best of times but if your code is all over the place it's impossible.

A great way to learn is to browse the forums and find some interesting code someone else has written; Phaelax's site has a load of code from the old DBC challenges). Go through those and try to understand the code. If you find commands you don't know look them up and learn how they work. There are also plenty of tutorials on here too.

I have two other important pieces of advice:
* Don't hesitate to bin your old code. You'll be learning so fast that everything you write for at least a few months will be complete crap when you look back on it, so don't waste time trying to revive bad code. If you start over you will do it better every time.
* Trust your gut when you're trying to solve new problems, if what you're writing feels incredibly long-winded and inefficient there's probably a better way of doing it out there. Don't be afraid to ask on the forums if you can't find a better solution by yourself.

Shh... you're pretty.

Sure, if you want, although as OBese87 said, I would learn a bit before asking people to join a team Although if you would like I could help you, being a kind of semi-noob myself, it would be fun.

I'm a DBPro novice too, been playing with DBPro for 4 years on & off now.

Add me on MSN or Google talk; [email protected]

Pro-tip: Create this bookmark for easy searching of the DBPro forums;

https://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en-GB&q=site:forum.thegamecreators.com+dbpro

Once you've got it bookmarked, all you have to do is click on it, add a search term (such as "user defined type tutorial") and ka-pow! Lots & lots of past threads & discussions on the subject matter.

EDIT: Hey Paronamixxe, is skype network & MSN network the same? I tried adding you, but not too sure if it worked... >_>

Blender can export Direct X files which can be used as levels. The export add-on is made active in the user preferences panel which can be shown by default by saving over the default scene.

It is not the easiest tool for the job, it takes an intermediate level of experience to get a map textured and structured for Direct X game. Consult my tutorials above.

I got mapscape so i think i might use that. I also got some inspiration from a friend to create a zombies game with a full city to explore. How could i incorporate loading into this to prevent major lag or even crashing? If you think this should be a new thread just let me know or if you'd like to help with the project, just leave a post.

Thanks.
