Mystic Blocks

This is my entry for Intels Perceptual Computing competition. The deadline for round one is 20th February 2013, I will let you know if I win anything.

You need the camera to play it so there is no point uploading a demo at this point. This is being made with AppGameKit tier 2. I think the concept should work on tablets and phones by tilting the device but I will not be certain until I try it.

Wish me luck

Very cool! I think you have very high likelihood of winning a big prize, based on their emails acknowledging they hadn't received many entries yet. I received the camera but didn't think to work in AppGameKit Tier 2 to make a game.

In Lee's FPSC blog, he mentioned he'll be doing The Ultimate Coder 2 using the Perceptual Camera. As a result he plans to make a DBPro DLL that interfaces with the camera.

Very impressive Matty H!

Hole in the wall style, great idea and very well executed.

I'll share your video on the AppGameKit Facebook page and ask Steve to make mention of this in the Newsletter.

Thanks everyone.

I have just submitted my prototype to intel, image added to top post.

@Rick - That would be great, thanks. I will send Steve some images etc in case he decides to include it this month.

Excellent Matty

Looking really interesting. I like the idea of using two hands to manipulate the game.

Good luck in the compo!

Looking fantastic. I applied for the camera but never got a reply (or I applied the wrong way!)

I agree, this has great potential and is simple but novel. Easy to pick up (literally) and play.

The graphics are looking good already, make sure you get everything to the same standard as your magical mystical fellow to impress the judges.

Nice, very nice. Congratulation!
I started some months ago a similar thing on the iPad to play like in dance dance revolution.
Capturing frame by frame from camera and doing the job.

Long life to Steve!

winners

winner - mystic blocks

Thanks to TGC for making AppGameKit, thanks to xCept for not entering and thanks to ched80 for telling us about the competition in a forum post.

The next stage of the competition will be announced soon, something for all tier 2 developers to consider.

Congrats!!! Ironically, much to my surprise, I am also one of those $20,000 winners w/ the Magic Doodle Pad prototype! Although this time around I didn't use AppGameKit for that competition.

AGK sure has brought in a lot of cash winners in the past four months.

Thanks everyone.

Intel want me to create a 'sample' game of Mystic Blocks which they will give away for free on AppUp. 'sample' means finished and polished but perhaps lacking in features/game modes/levels etc.

I have three months to make it and they want me to budget for Quality Assurance.

Paid Position: Quality Assurance/Programmer

I would like someone who is familiar with AppGameKit Tier 2 and comfortable with C++ to come on board for the final stage of the project which will be August.

Main tasks will be:
1. Track down and report bugs.
2. Test game on multiple operating systems.
3. Usability testing(sourcing multiple opinions if possible).
4. Minor bug fixes(programming).
5. Improving control system and playability(programming).

Experience with QA not essential but would be an advantage, knowledge of basic QA procedures is vital.

C++ knowledge is vital, AppGameKit knowledge an advantage.

I will put up more details later, thanks.

EDIT: Game is still awaiting final approval from Intel, I will post more details if this is definitely happening.
