GEMOT Games is a clone of the old columns game produced by our fledgling development team, Retro Reboot. Its an attempt, in a modern engine, to reboot and pay homage to an old classic that hasn't seen REAL development or release since the nineties. Its currently deep in alpha stages and is being scripted in dark basic pro using our custom dark gdk based scripting engine.
For those interested, the engine started as elements of the open source dark gdk source code that were ripped apart and rebuilt into all new function groups. This allowed us to address a good few issues with dark gdk (bugs, memory leaks, performance issues, missing functionality etc) but still keep in all the best parts. We then coupled that in along with a huge amount of our own personal created functionality. This was then built into dbpro plugins
mainly and creates our customized scripting engine within dbpro that's took the better part of 7 months to complete to this stage.
GEMOT Games is the first game built on that engine setup and is, understandably, a small first project to help work it in. We have bigger plans for this engine in future projects (if we can get that far). Retro Reboot is hopefully the start of a new game dev team working quickly to produce commercial games that reboot and modernize old abandoned classic game concepts (megalomania? medievil? Cool spot? Zool?. Modern clones of those games on our bucket list). The idea is to revert to and follow older development standards. Gaming as it used to be but done using an up to date front end. Our projects are primarily targeted at the pc platform however we hope to bring our games to android and other platforms, if we can do well enough. We are however starting from scratch and currently doing all the work in our own living rooms lol.
Here's a you tube video we knocked together using the latest alpha build of our project. It demonstrates a fully functional base game with audio
http://youtu.be/T0x54Nr5buE
We've knocked together a playable demo for people of the alpha build shown in that video. Its attached to this post. Please note that this demo is time restricted and expires on October this year. In other words once we reach October, this demo won't boot. Its restricted to give you the no thrills basic game core only.
Also worth noting is the demo supports 5.1 positional audio and also supports controllers with force feedback and has keyboard controls. If your using a 360 controller, it should automatically set itself to your controller for player 1.
Additionally, the game should auto config its full screen and windowed mode around your desktop resolution. Also there is no front end as of yet so none of the config switches are adjustable atm.
Keyboard controls:-
Player 1:-
Up = W : Down = S : Left = A : Right = D : Flip token = F : Shuffle order A = Space : Shuffle order B = Q
Player 2:-
Up = Up arrow : Down = Down arrow : Left = Left arrow : Right = Right arrow : Flip token = 6 num pad : Shuffle order A = 4 num pad : Shuffle order B = 2 num pad
Engine:-
Alternate full screen and windowed = Alt-Enter : End game = Escape
Have fun. Njoy. And we hope you tell us what you think of our project so far.
