A few years back I purchased Signs V and installed it on my old laptop. Last year the hard drive on my old laptop crashed. The website I purchased Signs V from is no longer online. Can anyone tell me where I can buy another copy of Signs V from?

For me Signs V was a versatile and user friendly application that I enjoyed using.

PS

I have noticed over the past couple of years that nearly all of the FPS Creator fan websites that I frequented are no longer online. I enjoyed reading the various tips and advice pages they offered. Those pages were very informative. I’m not knocking the FPS forum. The FPS forum has a great deal of useful information.

I also enjoyed seeing all the entities, segments, scripts and skyboxes that independent artists uploaded to those sites, so they could share their creations with other FPS Creator enthusiast.

I have a number of entity packs that I have created and would like to share with other FPS Creator enthusiast. I’m not interested in selling my entity packs. I only want to share them with other FPS Creator enthusiast. It doesn’t matter to me if they use them for personal or commercial use. If anyone can recommend a FPS Creator fan website that is still online that I can upload my entity packs too please let me know.

The games I have created with FPS Creator I have given away to gamers in my community. I haven’t made a dime off of any games I have created but I’ve been having a blast making them. My hobby of making 3-D games with FPS Creator has given me endless hours of enjoyment.

Thank you for replying. I’m disheartened to hear that Signs V is no longer being sold. Signs V had a lot of features that I appreciated. I hope someday it will be available for sale again. The developer of Signs V knew what he was doing when he created the application.

I think most people have migrated over to FPSC Reloaded and don't check these forums very often. Below is a link to the only fan site I know of but it's geared towards Reloaded. You might be able to contact the site administrator and work something out to put your Classic stuff on there though. I'll take anything you want to share The more I collect the more variety I can put in my games.

Thank you for the information. I visited the website you suggested. I like what I saw. I have been toying with the idea of getting FPS Reloaded. I do not know if my collection of entities and segments will work with Reloaded. All the entities I have created work perfectly on direct X9.

Over the past couple of months, I have been considering creating my own FPS Creator (classic) fan site. If I do, it probably will not be until next spring. If I do, all the entities I have created will be downloadable from their. In my thoughts about creating this site, I thought about adding all the YouTube videos on the subject of FPS to the site as well as all the articles about FPS Creator from the various free content article announcer websites. So far, the only thing that is stopping me is that it might take too much time away from the fun I am having creating games.

Once again, I thank you for replying.

PS

Currently at this time, I have no way to get you my collection of entities I have created. It is a rather sizable collection.

Unfortunately your collection is incompatible with Reloaded. There is a way to convert them for use but I'm not sure how to go about it. Someone in the Reloaded forums would know. Maybe the owner of that site would be willing to host a FPSC Classic section on the site for your entities? I really hope you do make a site, even if it's a small one. There's very little support for FPSC Classic now that Reloaded is out. Guess I'll have to wait and see if you make the site in order to try out some of those entities

I'm going to be making a bunch of signs for Reloaded which I could alternatively make them useable in Classic as well. But I'm assuming your looking more for the application to make signs? Rather than premade ones?

Once again thank you for replying. I have given it a great deal of thought and decided to give it a go on the website and will be offering all the entity packs I have created, free of charge to anyone who wants to use them for personal or commercial use.

Selecting the video tutorials and tips from YouTube is going to be time-consuming. There are literally hundreds of quality video tutorials available. The videos I will be selecting for the fan-based site will be the ones that are verbally narrated by the authors of the videos. The videos that play only loud background music while the author furiously clicks through their examples without verbally explaining what they are doing will not be included on the website.

In addition, video tutorials on how to use Gimp and Audacity will also be included for the enthusiast who would like to try their hand at making their own customized entities and sound effects. Video tutorials on how to make meshes (.X files) and UV mapping (texturing) will also be included.

I am astounded how a game creation software application has inspired me and many others into learning how to make supplementary software. Learning how to do it is half the fun and the other half is the satisfaction of accomplishment in the creation.

I just hope that I am not figuratively biting off more than I can chew in creating the fan-based site. There is a massive amount of content (text and video tutorials) that has to be put in a coherent format that is easily navigable.

Once again, thank you for replying and best regards.

PS

Teabone, thank you for replying. Signs V was a convenient timesaver in creating signs and wall art. Signs V also saved me a great deal of time in creating custom room segments and huds. The problem I have with creating my signs, wall art, room segments and huds is when I am typing out the command lines to direct to the mesh bank and texture bank the little woman comes into my man cave and interrupts me while I am typing out the command lines for the FPE file. That is when I make errors. It is nothing malicious on her part. I attribute it to Murphy’s Law.

Best regards.

In related news, I am currently working on a free alternative segment/entity maker. It may be too late for your needs though. If anyone can help with a mesh viewer, let me know. If I can get one, I'll add more entity types to the program.

@xplosys
I don't know if it will help, but I recall Scene Commander
writing a few programs in DB with viewers that he released.
I'm looking at one right now, it's the "FPSC Limb Finder" tool.
It appears to be written in DP and has a mesh viewer.
Maybe he can help?

Thank you, to everyone who has replied.

I have started working on the website. I am currently reviewing the available videos from YouTube. I am also working on the pages in the various categories. I have not yet designed the home page. The home page will be designed to accommodate the visitors to the site, for the information they are seeking and the free resources (entities, textures, segments, etc.).

I read a post about an application that was made with dark basic for the creation of supplements for FPS Creator.

As I can recall, a few short years ago a number of talented enthusiasts made varying applications for the creation of entities and segments as well as skyboxes for FPS Creator. Some of those applications went by the names of: Signs IV, Signs V, Magic FPS, Skybox. The websites where they could be purchased from no longer exists. I assume that the creators of these applications became disappointed with the initial results that there websites were generating and they abandoned their projects. If this is true, it is sad that they gave up in frustration. From everything I’ve read about e-commerce, it usually takes 36 to 58 months before and e-commerce site targeting a niche market becomes financially self-sustaining and making a profit. On the above mentioned names of the applications I did a search for the reviews of those applications. Going through many of the search page results I found numerous reviews from several forms as well as review sites. Some of the applications received bad reviews. However, they received far greater positive reviews. Also, on many of those website forums there were numerous inquiries as to where they could find the applications. It is tragic that those applications are no longer available when they are now being sought after by enthusiasts.

From what I’ve read about Skybox, it is an application I would like to have had. The idea of making custom skyboxes for my games would have been fun. From what I’ve read about Magic FPS I think I would’ve liked to have that application in my toy box of creation tools as well.

I had always assumed that dark basic was a long-form method for game creation. It had never occurred to me that dark basic could also be used for making applications. I am giving consideration in purchasing dark basic and exploring the possibilities. Should I purchase dark basic and create applications that would aid other FPS Creator enthusiast I would offer them for free on the site I am currently putting together. It’ll all depend on whether or not the little woman will let me purchase dark basic. I think if I give her more than just a bouquet of flowers and a box of candy for Valentine’s Day she just might let me purchase dark basic. In my home I rule the roost but she rules the rooster!

I clicked on the link in this thread and downloaded some of the applications. I was not disappointed. Thank you for the link.

The website where I got my mesh fewer no longer exists. And I lost my mesh fewer when my hard drive crashed last year. However, there is an open source viewer available from Assimp open source library.

Here is a short list of the mesh formats the open source application supports:
Collada (.dae)
Blender (.blend)
3ds Max 3DS (.3ds)
3ds Max ASE (.ase)
Wavefront Object (.obj)
Stanford Polygon Library (.ply)
Autocad DXF (.dxf)
Lightwave (.lwo)
Modo (.lxo)
Object File Format (.off)
Ogre XML (.xml)
Stereolithography (.stl)
DirectX (.x)
AC3D (.ac)
Milkshape 3D (.ms3d)

The download page is at:

Best regards to everyone.

Two programs that might be of help to you are "FirmaV2 & Closk"
FirmaV2 can make simple signs, segment textures,overlays..ect
Here is a working link...http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=116899&b=24
Doomster's "Closk" can make skybox's and is simple to use.

As for Dark Basic TGC is running a winter sale right now
packed with a lot of goodies for under $30. I might get it just
for "Treemagik & Plant Life" alone.

I would like to thank everyone for the links.

The applications I have downloaded will save a great deal of time in creating entities, segments, overlays, skyboxes and much more. The applications are extremely user-friendly with a very short learning curve. I am impressed with the design and functionality of all the applications I have downloaded from the links. The creators of the applications have my admiration.

The application Search And Rescue will definitely eliminate a great deal of aggravation when I am searching for entities and segments when I am creating a new game. Over the years my collection of entities and segments has grown dramatically. There have been times that it has taken me over an hour just to find a specific entity. I am certainly going to get a great deal of use out of using Search And Rescue.

The application Alfresco was a pleasant surprise. Alfresco definitely simplifies creating distant tree lines and mountains for the border of the game map. In addition, I appreciate the ease of creating trees and shrubs in a timely manner. Alfresco is definitely a time saver.

OverLaze definitely simplifies and speeds up the process for making overlays. I will be making good use of this application.

I downloaded Firma and the patch and installed them. The application will definitely save me a great deal of time in creating entities and segments. I definitely appreciate how Firma simplifies the process of creating rooms as well as floors and walls. I have also found that Firma has a generous selection of shapes for signs.

I like the way HoleZ allows me to make special effects to wall segments. HoleZ now allows me to add new dimensions to my games.

When I installed CloSk - Skybox Creator I was amazed at how the creation of skyboxes was simplified. The only limitations I can find with this application is that it is only limited by my own imagination.

All the other applications that I have not mentioned in this post are impressive. I could go on and on about them. However, I do not want to take up too much of your time talking about them.

To everyone my best regards.

Update on the FPS Creator classic fan based website that I am working on.

The work on the website is progressing slowly. I have been spending a great deal of time searching YouTube for tips and tutorials for FPS Creator classic to be included on the website. A large number of videos that were on YouTube a few years ago for FPS Creator are no longer available today. It is a pity that they are no longer online because they were filled with valuable how-to tips. Many of the videos were produced by much younger enthusiasts of FPS Creator. Those how-to tips and tutorial videos were filled with beneficial information in a straightforward manner. Fortunately, there are still a good number of videos available.

What is disturbing in my search for video content is that there has been a proliferation of how to tips and tutorials that has no verbal narration explaining the processes in the tips and tutorials. Many of the tutorials with a type written overlay in them are done in a poor manner that serves as more of an annoying distraction rather than providing useful information. The vast majority of the tips and tutorial videos with only loud background music instead of a verbal narration are of poor quality due to the speed of the video and/or improper video resolution. I will continue searching for quality informational video content for the website. The collection of non-video content is going well.

The website will not be offering a forum. The free downloadable entities that I have created will be available to anyone who would like to use them in their game creations. I will also be offering my ogg and wav files as well.

I plan to launch the website as soon as I have a minimum of 200 pages of content for upload. Creating the HTML files for upload is being created with the Web Express authoring application. So far, I have completed 50 pages. It is doubtful that the website I am working on will ever have a high Google rating due to a great deal of the content being second-generation from free article provider websites. Even with that in mind, I still plan to have fun adding more content as time progresses. I will still be making games for the gamers in my community. Between the website and making games I am going to continue being active in my advanced years.

To all I wish you my best regards.
