Aren't those monster graphics the AngBandTk tiles by David Gervais released under CC BY 3.0?

It appears that some sprites are exactly the same as in Indie Graphics Bundle, the tank creation kit for example. Is it supposed to be the same? Did someone copy from someone else or how does that work?

They must have got permission to do so. or they could be in a heap of trouble, I've purchased them

another thing is that the user manuals they are selling are from Alistair "Hands on Basic"
and to top it off the beginners guide is hols bolus part of the user guide. I bought both on steam ..

not happy

so far the resource packs i appear to have gotten free. and I wouldn't have even bought it had been stated

very badly described on all accounts.

so all up today i wasted 82.46

I think those who purchased the "Hands on Basic" book would also be upset if they were to buy the books on steam

very poor business practice if you ask me, I've spent a lot on money with TGC over many many years and have referred many to their products over that time
I'm very very disappointed

Hi all,
I'm very interested in the first pack. Could be possible to see a snapshot to see some sprites of top down soccer sprites?

Cheers

Picked up both pack 1 and 2. I will be looking into them today. After a hard drive crash this was just the thing for me getting some assets back.

I picked up pack#1, nice little set of stuff. it's given me a few idea for some new games, and some will be nice place-holder stuff for development.

I didn't fancy pack #2 as i'm not interested in the casino stuff. TGC should package up some of the audio packs, i picked up one of those before and they have some nice clips in them.

Most of the artwork from these DLCs seem to be made by David Gervais. Here are a few older threads that off show the artwork a bit better (some of it is even free!): https://forum.thegamecreators.com/thread/85024?page=1 https://forum.thegamecreators.com/thread/67876

A lot of it is 5 - 10 years old which is fine, but if it's just repackaged artwork from 5+ years ago what was the point of this thread from just a few weeks ago where TGC asked what type of sprites people would like to see in the asset pack? Are there more asset packs coming soon? https://forum.thegamecreators.com/thread/215521?page=1

I guess this is the start of the asset pack with more to come based on what we mentioned previously.

It would nice for David Gervais to get something back from all the hard work with his free graphics he has put in for the community so far, he might even be working on new packs?

Good job and something much needed for the AppGameKit sales as it makes it more of a complete package now especially for new users to AGK.

@Hockeykid Thanks for posting those links. I'm new to the forums and I didn't know that David Gervais was on here. I recognized those graphics even though I haven't used them in any projects yet.

That does make me think/hope something along the lines of what spectrepaul said.

Hi all,

Just to clear up any confusion, the sprites in both asset packs are by a number of artists and have either been licensed to us or are original works.

In the case of the sprites by David Gervais these are licensed, revamped versions as well as a original work.

We will also be adding to the packs over the next few months for free to increase the media available, this will involve a lot of the media requested by users.

Regarding the guides, the description does state that the official full user guide will take users from beginner to expert and to clarify it is an updated version of the Hands On AppGameKit by the same author. Again, the guide will expand to cover full details of 3D, 3D physics and other new features and commands. We felt the descriptions were clear, but if anyone feels this could be better worded, please let us know as we don't wish to confuse.

I hope that's cleared up a few things, but please feel free to contact me if you've any questions.

As I said in another thread: I would be very interested in buying a bundle of pack1,pack2 and the user guides - WITHOUT AppGameKit - I have that already.

But I also like to argue that TGC need to earn money in some way. Attracting new users to agk and offering assets packs is the obvious route. As long as they have an agreement with the individual creators of the individual assets I see no problem in offering these assets within a bundle.

We all need TGC to earn money from agk, or else they would stop updating it. I paid almost nothing when I bought agk years ago. TGC has never asked me to pay anything for an upgrade or troubled me with a monthly subscription etc. Once I bought it. I owned it, together with the updates. This is, in my opinion, good and rare.

I bought both art packs and the user guide

the beginners guide i find a bit misleading, glad i didn't buy it. You should give customers of the beginners guide an
upgrade option to the user guide, for they don't need pay the full price for near the same book.

I AM HERE! Rejoice!

Quote: "Aren't those monster graphics the AngBandTk tiles by David Gervais released under CC BY 3.0?"

not to worry, as Scene Commander pointed out they are using them under license and many have been revamped to give them a better look, and much of the RPG content has new material. the Terrains are All new, and many of the terrain features like the mountains and trees etc. (if you compare to the ones at the angband site you'll see some differences in the terrain.) most of the doors a and stuff are the old ones. but they also have been 'edited'. And I reserve ALL rights to my artwork releasing stuff in CC BY 3.0 by no means means I relinquish my rights, it just means I will not persue people following the CC BY 3.0 license terms.

The cars are in an atlas image and are varying in size, 64x128 up to 96x280 for the buss. the Semi trucks with rig attached is longer still. all are made to scale down nicely if required.

Cheers!

P.S. some of the stuff I already posted 'free' on these forums is also included, but if you get the pack, you'll see that they are in a folder for 'Bonus free content'. Regardless, the amount of artwork and stuff in these 'Royalty free' asset packs is (in my humble opinion) extremely value priced so no more complaints ok?

I also saw mention that some of the stuff looked like it came from threads and artwork I posted 5-10 years ago.. Not True.. anything from back then I have redone from scratch.. Dominos tiles, Cards, Mahjong tiles, all the word game tiles were redone. I did salvage some stuff from this thread..
https://forum.thegamecreators.com/thread/208087 but like I said it is in a Bonus free media section of the Giant asset packs. Animated player sprites for platform games, walking, running, jumping etc.. all new. all the cars and trucks are all new. chess pieces, boards etc all new. I'd estimate that 90% of the artwork that I made for these Giant asset packs is new. the other 10% are taken from older sources and reworked, and edited for this pack. Just saying, the stuff I posted in the past is still royalty free, and always will be. this new stuff is also royalty free. I have a friend who got a quote from an artist to make new sprites for his game and he was quoted $200 per sprite (2d Non-animated) My friend needed like 50 unique sprites and that would have cost him $10,000.. put things in perspective people. look at what you get and at what price, and think about it.

Cheers!

This has been a bugbear of mine for years! People in the DBP forum would say "I'm not paying $20 for [Insert Plugin here], I can do it myself". OK, value your time at $25 / hour and see how much it costs you.

Congrats on your first commercial venture here David, you deserve to be successful.

@ gwargl: The file format available is PNG. You can modify them how you wish (as long as you don't try to resell them individually, or as part of a pack); but there are no layered files included.

Wow... buying through steam is a real pain isn't it! Can't purchase because you're not logged in. Can't login because you're using a different machine. Can't purchase Giant Asset Pack because you haven't purchased AGK...

Finally managed to login / activate steam version of AppGameKit (ugg...) and complete the purchase before the time ran out on the 60% discount! Woohoo! Giant Asset Pack 1 is HUGE! Very pleased with this, although I'd have much preferred tp purchase it directly from here... lots here to keep me busy for a while

Request: Mirror steam deals here so we can purchase without having to jump through all those annoying Steam hoops. Thanks!

[Edit]
Oh oh oh! Just noticed Giant Asset Pack 2 had the same deal!!! Purchased

[EDIT2]

So I started browsing through Giant Asset Pack 2, and I thought "Hmmm... not as many assets here, but a few nice board game pieces to use, and they've said they'll be adding to it in the future..." ... then I realised I was in the boardgames folder . Navigated up a level and OH MY! This pack is MAHOOOSIVE! Simply amazing value . Thank you TGC and especially DG!

I purchased Asset Pack 1 and I'm sure I wasted my money.

1- %90 model are 8bit
2- all ship and tank models are rendered from 3d modes. and never can use them for make a game.
3- most sprites are sheet and you can't access them such as single file.
4. most sprites are small and can't use them for large resolution.
and so on.

with this pack you can't make any game.

All sprites are incomplete.(e.g we have car but don't have road, and have airplane but no have any object relate to it.)

The goal was to just raise the file size Not quality.

I suggest you don't buy.

@Behdadsoft, hmmmm........

I think you are being a bit narrow minded, there is nothing wrong with the packs and a game can be quite easily made with the assets.
Do you want everything done for you? Surely when assets are obtained either free or otherwise they are not 100% in the correct way for your project, you just do a bit of modification etc which is only a little amount of work and you are away.

You can not expect otherwise unless you are actually paying for the graphics to order and have sent a brief to the person drawing the graphics but if you do this then good luck if you can find something at the same price!

Asset packs are made with a view to many differing projects and people using them, not just one.

I think better is see this store and compare AppGameKit Assets with them.

http://www.graphicriver.net/category/game-assets

All people use them, not just me and seem all.

TGC Know if show all sprites, No one will buy. so only show good sprites (cars only).

Quote: "You can not expect otherwise unless you are actually paying for the graphics to order and have sent a brief to the person drawing the graphics but if you do this then good luck if you can find something at the same price!"

when I pay money for something try choice better thing. when I see cars picture, I think all sprites are like them (Like FPSC Model Packs that are very good ), while It was the opposite. for my games I buy graphics form above link, because for make commercial games, quality is important issue.
This Package only good for personal use (for test and Practice).

You need to check the license though with that because if you want to sell your game you will most likely need an extended license and that costs much more!

I'm sure you're allowed to sell any game created with these assets, using any game engine, just not to sell the assets on directly. Wouldn't be much point in selling an asset pack you couldn't actually use in a commercial game would it?!?! lol

With graphic river you have to be careful, you can make a commercial game but they have different license for selling the game, e.g.:

Free

To sell

Big difference in price and also why the TGC assets are good price for what they sell.

I wonder if they would class "Ad Supported" as free? I'll need to take a look at the Licince Details... Nope. Can't find the details on there. Guess I'll have to raise a ticket.

So we can buy assets from another store like https://www.gamedevmarket.net/category/2d/. this store have 2d and 3d assets for make games. and almost assets in graphicriver also exists in this store. I look at for license detail but can't find any thing about License detail. but I find a different assets price between GraphicRiver and gamedevmarket that prices in gamedevmarket is a little more than GraphicRiver but there is no any restriction for use them. Had a response from my ticket on GraphicRiver.

My question was:
"Can a regular licence be used for graphics when used in a game or app that is supported by advertising (via AdMob or Chartboost for example)?"

Their response was:
"As long as the end users can freely access the end product, the regular license is fine. There can be more than one end-user (the person who uses the end product, such as the end consumer) as long as there is only one, unique end product."

But AGK's license aren't anything like GraphicRivers licencing? As mentioned before as it's been commented on the forums many times before for other asset packs, AGK's assets are free to use for whatever purpose, just not to resell an an asset pack or likewise.

They're royalty free for use in free/paid-for games/apps/videos.

You don't need Steam to buy the assets. They are available on TGC Store : http://www.appgamekit.com/dlc.php

Or, if you DO have a steam key for AGK2, you can activate it via the steam client:
* Launch the Steam client software and log into your Steam account.
* Click the Games Menu.
* Choose Activate a Product on Steam...
* Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.

Once activated, the DLC packs become available.

Where can we find the license and copyright information for these asset packs? I have Asset Pack 1 on Steam and don't find any license information in its folder. If any of these assets require attribution, we need to know who made them and how to attribute them. Right?
