Hey forum dwellers,

As someone who visits the movie theaters on a regular base (at least once every month or two), i was kind of wondering what your favorite movies are, and also why?

I personally like lots of movie genres: Sci Fi, Comedy, Comedy/Action, Western, Thriller, Adventure, Disaster movies. The Marvel movies and DC Comics i love as well.

Terminator 2 is my most favorite one, for a number of reasons: Arnold Swarchenegger, great visual FX, great acting, excellent storyline, cool action mixed with humor and drama.
The latest Star Trek movies are also on my top list, aswell as Ninja Assasin, Revenge of the Ninja, Hot Shots 1 and 2, Beverly Hills Cop 1, 2 and 3, The Expendables (i like all of them ), American Pie (the first three ones i love most, haven't seen latest one yet ), Predator 1 (i still don't understand why in the second one, the 'hero' is played by Danny Glover, who isn't a bad actor, but doesn't have the same 'brutal' posture that Arnold has), R.E.D. (Retired Extremely Dangerous), the Matrix trilogy, X men (all of them), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and many more...

So, what movies do you guys like best, and why?

I'm incredibly lame and rarely watch movies. So instead, I shall list my favorite food. I enjoy a good plate of sesame chicken, but only from one restaurant in particular. No other Chinese place makes it anything like the way I want. I hope the one place doesn't go out of business!! I also greatly enjoy a good hot n spicy chicken sandwich from McDonald's! Utter deliciousness in a bun! Mmm. If someone were to call me a McDonald's fanboy, they'd be making a severe understatement!

I don't watch a tonne of movies (I prefer TV), but when I do watch movies, they're mostly comedies. My absolute favourite movie is Blazing Saddles, I love pretty much anything by Mel Brooks. A few other movies that are really great: Airplane, The Naked Gun trilogy, Coming to America, Police Academy, probably some others that I can't think of right now...

I don't particularly have a favourite, I like lots of different films for different reasons...

The Matrix Trilogy, simply because
Dark Knight
The Shawshank Redemption
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, original Swedish version
Watership Down
Airplane

Slayer you have a typo in your post. You used the phrases "Arnold Schwarzenneger" and "great acting" in the same sentence.

Hmm, that's more than one typo then, i guess ?

Btw, BatVink...there's three of you now, which one are you ?

Quote: "My absolute favourite movie is Blazing Saddles"

Yeah lol, forgot to mention that one. And the other ones you mentioned are top too!

Quote: "Airplane"

Love it!

Quote: "I'm incredibly lame and rarely watch movies. So instead, I shall list my favorite food."

Perhaps a movie about food then ?

I like Chinese food more than McDonalds. We usually make our hamburgers ourselves. Yummy!

All of the movies BatVink mentioned. There are so many movies I've enjoyed over the years, here's what I can think of off the top of my head:

More "mainstream" movies:
- Fight Club
- Alien trilogy
- Apollo 13
- Back to the Future trilogy
- Whiplash
- Kung Fu Hustle
- Kelly's Heroes
- Full Metal Jacket

Lesser known movies that have positively surprised me:
- Rounders
- Primal Fear
- Ragu
- Living in Oblivian
- Down by Law

Awesome movies! I wonder when the fourth will come out.

I also read that they're going to make a fourth Beverly Hills Cop, with none other than Eddie Murphy, LOL! Oh, and a also a Twins sequel, called Triplets (if i'm not mistaken)...also starring Eddie Murphy! Hhahahhaaaaa!

Akira, Grave of the Fireflies, Unforgiven, man with no name trilogy, Stargate, Spinal Tap, Merchant of Venice, Eternal Sunshine.
I wish there were more westerns coming out these days. I love period pieces.

Probably never, sadly because Michael J Fox is just too sick to star in anything at the moment. Damn Parkinson's.

Not to mention, Christopher Lloyd is also getting up there in age and probably wouldn't be able to project the same energy.

My favorite movies include:
Back to the Future
Star Wars 4-7 (prequels? What prequels? )
Star Trek (all of them, except Nemesis)
Looper
The Fifth Element
Virtually anything with Robert Downey Jr
O Brother, Where Art Thou

And way too many others to list.

Electric Dreams, TRON, Spirited Away (in fact, almost anything by Studio Ghibli), Evil Dead 1 & 2, Haunted Honeymoon, any Carry On movie, AI (up until the ending... should have ended when he drops into the water), Serenity, Dark City, Kung Fu Hustle, Azumi 1&2, Barbarella... plus LOTS LOTS more (including Star Trek Nemesis!)

I mostly like old 80's sci-fi movies...
Alien
Aliens
Bladerunner
Predator
Terminator
Robocop
The Running Man

Goodfellas
Boyz n the Hood
Friday
Dark Crystal
Legend
Time Bandits
Shawshank Redemption
Green Mile

I do like some of the old horror movies too, like Pumpkinhead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser.

Really I can't recall a movie that I truly like from the last 15 years... I have practically no patience for superhero films, modern creepy-girl-in-mirror horror movies, or feminazi chick-flicks... not much choice these days, heck the last time I went to the cinema was for Mad Max.

A couple more appeared here that I also like...

TRON (but not TRON 2)
LOTR
Green Mile - just so good!
Mad Max, the original
Also - Project X with Matthew Broderick. If you never cried at a cheesy, badly made film, this will do it.

Aliens. Dunno why. I mean it's really similar to say a Vietnam film (which I'm not bothered about), but it just hits all the notes for me. Game over man...

And it draws with Mannequin..... Yeah, I know. But I was the right age, and Kim Cattrall... Need I say more... Meg Ryan movies (before 2000) come close, put it that way...

Gold star also to Memento. Mainly because it's bloody clever, and makes you think. Nothing else needs saying.

There are more, but I always go with the first two (search this forum for old movie posts), and I never forget about Memento.

Overall though (even though it doesn't work above really) you can sum up my movie likes with time travel, vampires, space travel, and women. Get all of them in there, and I'll replace Aliens/Mannequin. Sadly Andromeda comes mighty close, but it's not a film so it can get stuffed...

Cheers

Hackers. Say what you want, I know it's cheesy but it'll always be my number one.

I'll watch pretty much anything with Bruce Campbell in it.
Italian Job, not necessarily my favorite but it's one of those movies I can sit down and watch anytime. The American version, not that hokey version the Brits made.

Movies:
Empire Records
PCU
Bond movies
Brick (if you haven't heard of it, I highly suggest it)
Blazing Saddles of course, I quote that movie all the time
Snatch

Honorable mentions:
Kung Fu Hustle
Equilibrium
Idiocracy (pretty sure it's a future documentary)
Pulp Fiction
ZombieLand
Soldier's Girl, it's an interesting movie to say the least.

Great movie, yeps. But somehow i was expecting more of it...more new planet discoveries, new worlds. And, the dimension thing was a bit too much, i think.
But all in all, a good movie.

Yeps, forgot to mention those in my list.

By hokey, do you mean original?
I've seen both, and much prefer the original. You can't beat a film where the stunts were real and the CGI is non-existent.

I really liked Kung Fury, amazing how comedy so easily applies itself to martial arts movies... that's always been the case though, I mean Shogun Assassin amuses me more than any comedy made in the last 10 years without even trying.

I watched Interstellar the other day and thought it was pretty good. I also enjoyed The Maze Runner a lot. I dunno what I'd say my favourite films are though. The Back ToThe Future trilogy ranks up there pretty high.

My least favourite films are probably Titanic (2 hours of faux romance and a boat sinking) and Children Of Men (dreary, depressing contrived film where everything is tinted green).
