Hi, just wanted to mention to anyone interested that there is a game jam running this month (December 2023) on itch.io which is oriented around BASIC language dialects.

AppGameKit is specifically listed as one of the BASIC dialects that can be used in the game jam.

Full information is available here on itch.io:
URL: https://itch.io/jam/jam-for-all-basic-dialects-5

Submissions open from November 30th 2023 at 9:00 AM to December 31st 2023 at 9:00 AM

(I'm not the host or originator of the game jam, but just thought others might be interested in it)

I might, if I can find a current project to fit one of those themes lol

I saw a blue button and it inspired a jam idea.

That looks like a neat game! And a game something like that would certainly fit into the "Blocks" theme of the gamejam!

if you guys are commited to the jam and both using AppGameKit, it makes sense to move this to AGK Chat where you could provide us with updates?

i've seen Phaelax' progression on discord; GemGames do you have anything to share re: your progress?

otherwise, give 'em hell

the guy hosting it is a fan of BASIC and those that use it, in general, and posts throughout itch.io.

i've participated in the past because of that fact alone, & the more the merrier, in my book.

i woulda been in it if i didn't already have my plate full ATM so, kevin, please do join up.

i can't say i've seen a PlayBASIC game on itch so help with that?

and, it's nearly 8 days left (phaelax tried to short you a day).

Nearly every entry was a different form of basic, the exception was 2 entries for qbjs.

AGK (me)
PureBasic
QBJS (qbasic for the web!)
AOZ Studio
Monkey X
VB.NET
Small Basic

I might be willing to include VB6 or something, but the .NET framework really makes me question whether that should count.

Sorry for the delay in my reply - I missed the submission deadline for this game jam.

I was trying to put together a simple text adventure type game, thinking that such a project would be an easier first project. But I found that it was for me actually a lot more challenging than I anticipated! I did learn some things through this game jam about the importance of project management, planning, avoiding "feature creep" and limiting scope, and deadlines. I feel disappointed that I didn't submit anything, but it was nonetheless an educational experience for me. I hope to do better next time, and I certainly haven't given up on working to create some games using AGK. Thanks for asking!

The TapOut entry looks great Phaelax! It has some real quality workmanship. I hope your entry wins the game jam!
