Well, here's one I made around 11 o' clock when I was really tired. For those of you that have a Gamecube and have played Metroid Prime... well, thats what I was aiming for. I may add some more detail soon, it is definitely not a Samus arm cannon.

I have not really gotten into guns lately. I'll have to go whole hog when I start up FOTS: A Blaze of Glory this summer.

Holy frig these are great, I obviously have a long long long way to go before I can call myself a 3d modeller. As a kind of side topic what programs are you people using, I don't see how anything nearly half as good is possible in Milkshape (what I'm using.)

i'm using milkshape3D too, code2kill.It can do a lot of things, especially when it comes to low poly modelling.
But in fact a good modeller can make good models regardless of the program he uses.
And don't forget the texturing part, well made textures can make an average model look good.
But that's enough talking for now, have a look at this tut for milkshape on the topic of modelling guns:

what is the best software for this, anim8or, Dele D, or True Space?

Oh, and Zero Blizitz, what software is that?

I was using DeleD at the time. Nice and simple now that I know how to use it. But don't let my modeling skills fool you, its a good piece of software.

I could probobly get more detail if I made my gun bigger in DeleD then used "scale object" in DBP. I will have to try that next time...

TrueSpace 3.2 ... hmm, it's ok I suppose, a lot of buttons though, and I could never figure some things out... Deled is definitely the way to go, I mean it's free, it has more than enough power... and best of all, it's easy to use.

Lets see, where to start

I didnt give the wood in this first one much UV space because it will be off the screen most of them time. Not like the gun will ever be this big ingame either.

I was lazy on the handle for this one. but it would be covered up by hands ingame.

That should do for now

I've had an idea (well it's about time). I bought darkmatter 2 ages ago when I couldn't model (although I'm not saying I can model now) but I stopped using the guns it supplied because I wanted to animate it and make better models. So now that I've learnt some skills, I was wondering if it would be legal for me to change the darkmatter models (ie. put in more detail and animation) and then sell it on.

[EDIT]sorry, I think I my have been confusing you. When I say "sell it on", I mean use it as part of a program, which I shall then sell. Anywho, I sent an e-mail to tech-support and they said it's fine. Sorry about the confusion!

it wouldnt be legal for you to sell them. Or ethical either. Think about how much work the orginal artist put in compared to how much work you did. Its reselling somebody elses work.

but this media was made for resale. Darkmatter is liscence and royalty free... maybe I should send a message to TGC support for the info

No, it was made to be used in a game. you cant just make some alterations to somebody elses work and expect to be able to profit from it. If you want to make some money, model the whole thing from scratch. Read the license carefully and you will see that this is illegal..

I think my idea was a little confusing; when I say "sell on", I mean as part of a DBPro program, as allowed in the liscense agreement. I just wanted to know whether I could alter the objects before putting them into a commercial program.

Anywho, I sent an e-mail off to technical support and they said it is fine. Sorry about the previous confusion!

There's an option on the Export X file window to also export the textures used in the model. The textures will be exported to the same directory as the model itself.

Use the free 3D modeller DeleD to get skilled in 3d editing! Visit http://www.delgine.com for more info.
