ozzy doesnt worship the devil either, the only thing ozzy regrets is biting the bats head off, but in the docco i watched he thought it was a plastic bat, unfortuneatly the bat was real and had rabies. But other than that ozzy hasn't really done that much bad stuff, save for maybe pissing on the alamo, btu from what i recall he was drunk. And in his documentary he tells people not to do drugs and drink like he does cause by all rights he should be dead from it by now

@Uberwiggett - Indeed, and he was banned from playing in Texas for that Alamo incident. But yes, he thought the bat head was fake. Someone just through the bat on stage. However, the dove incident is a different story.

Quote: "I remember an interview with Chad Krueger (or whatever his name is). He was basically bragging because everyone in his band is a run of the mill old dude with no tattoos - that's great Chad, did they grow you all in a petre dish for 40 years to keep you so freakin dull. All their songs seem to be about abused housewives and kids, and him coming along and dealing with the situation - wow Chad, you must be a real hero . Music is music, but I prefer music that is honest - not fabricated to attract the attention of a target audience. Puddle of Mudd are just as bad - I was unforunate enough to see them live a while back, damn abusive to the audience, sloppy timing all over the place, then KoRn came out and taught them what a gig is supposed to be like."

Yeah the fakeness annoys me to. What I find really annoying is how people pretend they like music, yet when their favourite band does something in their lives that they don't like, they call them 'crap'. In reality these people only listen to them because they are 'hardcore' and have tatoos and $hit, not because of what their music is like. Now THAT is what I call fake. I mean, I like Megadeth, but because of the driving melodies and rythms they have, not because they act all hard. After all, if I liked them for that reason I wouldn't listen to stuff like Elton John . Its stupid how someone says they are into music, when they haven't got a clue what kind of music they like. Its just tragic..

I appriciate bands like Korn for what they are, but a lot of those 'heavy' bands just generally produce crap sounding music, but make it all 'heavy' so they get loads of fans. You may disagree but in my opinion it would be easy to make something that would top those songs. For some anyway.. It seems these days people can get away with performing/writting crap. When I say performing I mean the difficulty of what they do. For instance nowerdays its more screaming than singing, because anyone can scream, whereas not everyone can sing decent. Pop isn't doing very well either in this timeframe, a lot of the pop music nowerdays is just stuff that could be written in 3 minutes with barely any thought.

The 80s were a great period for music. Bands did their best back then. After the 90s, it seems that most of the great bands did worse. Now, not all of them, but still, just look at some examples:

Ozzy Osbourne - Look at most of his later albums. They had maybe a couple of good songs on them, as opposed to his music opus, Blizzard of Ozz.

Megadeth - Yes, Megadeth do rule. However, I think I really liked Peace Sells better then most of their other albums.

Metallica - 'Nuff said.

Slayer - Come on, sure, some of their new stuff is good, but a lot of it sucks. That, and the face that they release albums once every three years...

Motley Crue - Buy their new album...

I like techno music too. Which is strange...but Depeche Mode rules!
Yes is cool, but they're not Techno.

Besides, I like Elton John too. Rocket Man, burning out his fuel out here alone. Rush is cool too.

I think the 90's music was better than the 80's. I mean, the 90's is where we got Beck, Nirvana, STP, Pearl Jam, and many other good bands. Nowadays the songs on the radio all sound the same.

I seriously listen to talk radio when I'm in my car... I just flip between the two main ones.

Also, being from the same city as Nickelback, I remember when they came to our school when they were unknowns. I thought they even sucked back then.

I also can't stand groups where you know the lead singer is an ass in real life. Matthew Good, the front-man for his band, which is also local here, is an example of such jerkisms.

@Jeku: Nirvana was cool, but I think I like a lot of older music better.

@Phaelax: Yes, Korn does suck.

I found it, I found it!

It plays a different nickelback song on each speaker.(left and right)
Wait until you hear the chorus of two completely "different" songs!

Hehe Ozzum, your into Elton John and Motley Crew - you can't dis KoRn after admitting that!

I like KoRn because the songs are genuine, and they are unique - there's no other band that plays like KoRn, they invented Nu Metal, compared to other Nu Metal bands they kick ass. KoRn change their style all the time, well Jon Davis does, the first couple of albums had a lot of screaming etc, but newer stuff is much more melodic, I think they're following in Metallica's style, right now they're at their Loaded album stage.

I suppose Pearl Jam are my favourite band, I've got everything they've ever recorded. Saving up to see them live, I know going to a gig is not really something you have to save for - but it'll be years before they play Glasgow again so I'll most likely have to see them on an American tour.

Van is right about Korn being unique, whenever I hear one of their songs I immediately know it is them. I like about half of their songs, but I don't like the swearing...

I really like Linkin Park, their music is also unique, and they have very driving choruses. I initially thought that their Reanimation CD was a rip-off, but all of the songs are really cool and have awesome bass.

I think one of the most unique bands I have ever heard is Skindred. I recently found them, and they are pretty cool. I can only describe it as a mix of reggae, rap, rock, and hip hop. It is pretty cool. Here is a link to their music video:

I can like the Crue and Elton John. Listen, it's not the lyrics I hate, it's the voice. I don't like much Nu-Metal. Rob Zombie is cool. Manson has some good songs, but I think I mostly like it because of the techno in it. That, and I really like Depeche Mode and Soft Cell. He did some covers of their songs. I like the originals better though. However, it had been a while since I've listened to Korn, so I'll go and give them another shot...got any songs to reccomend?

On the subject of drummers, Adrian Erlandsson (Cradle of Filth's latest) is an awesome live drummer. Just not heard as much with the blaring scream of Dani Filth (who's actual name is Dani Davey... hmmm ).

As for Pearl Jam, saw them Live in '95 (with my parents), awesome show. We went when we were (confusing) visiting SLC for the first time, actually one of the first concerts I remember (other then various Grateful Dead). Alive - Black was the highlight of that night (played back to back... was great).

Linkin Park is nice, though their songs get kinda sickening after listening to them repeatedly (especially when Mike sings most of the song).

I've started to get sick of English songs lately. It just doesn't have much impact on me anymore. It's not a syllable based language, so the lyrics don't seem to flow too well with the instruments.

Hehe, Linkin Park songs are so samey, I think Chester Benderton is afflicted with Scabbies.

My favourite KoRn songs are Freak On A Leash, Dead Bodies Everywhere, Counting on me, Here To Stay, Thoughtless. The last 2 are from Untouchables which is a great album, as is their hits album. I don't really see KoRn as thrashy or loud, If I want to listen to harder stuff I stick on Static-X, I did think WTF! when I first heard Blind, but now I'm used to Jon's harsh vocals and some of them are really deep.

Pearl Jams 'Lost Dogs' is like a hits album too, but not live this time - just good recordings of rarer stuff (plus Dirty Frank which appears on everything). There a song called 'Hold On', and it's like my second favourite PJ song (first would be Rearviewmirror) - Eddie says that it almost made it onto Vitalogy, I say there was plenty space on Vit' for it, I can only listen to about half the songs on that! (god damn acid period!). Seeing them live is something I always wanted to do, I wasn't even into them when they played Glasgow, I just keep hearing about how awesome it was from people that were there, annoys me when it takes 10 years for some bands to get to Scotland, considering how loyal a lot of us are.

I like Depeche Mode, mainly because they have an awesome sound, I was never a fan of that 80's yuppie music, but Depeche Mode did'nt follow the same trends, they seemed a bit above their peers in that era. Enjoy The Silence has had a remix recently that is quite good, you should check it out.

Nu Metal was started with Blind (KoRn), like heavy metal but in a new style - Faith and RHCP and Pearl Jam for that matter are more contemporary rock. I loved Angel Dust, and there's some awesome songs on King For A Day, but I've never really spent a lot of time listening to the RHCP, I got put off a bit when that gimp guitarist guy joined them (he's in Janes Addiction I think, probably good pals with Trent Resnor) and they started wearing bondage gear, I haven't really listened to them since that sorry album.

heh Dave Nevarro left after One Hot minute, I think Blood Sugar is my favourite Peppers album. Love AngelDust...and well all Faith albums after Mike Patton joined, I pretty much have them all. You heard any Mr. Bungle? they are pretty messed up but very good their second album is really hard to listen to but first and third are fantastic, if you like crazyness

I have heard of them, never checked out any albums though (local record stores in my town absolutely suck - I have to sit on a train for 30 minutes before I can buy anything decent). I'll keep my eyes peeled - been meaning to get Aphex Twins albums as well but can't even buy them locally.

Classic stuff. And Angeldust was awesome. Although it was always slightly tainted because I bought it fairly straight away, just before they added the sunday morning song on the end. Which I always liked. Still not as good an album, for me, as the one before that. That I can't be bothered finding right now. The one with, erm, from out of nowhere on it. Great album.

Heh, I always had to love Napalm Deth. Might not love the music, but you had admit to the sheer amount of songs on one album. Wasn't a song about 20 secs long on average? Chuckle.

As to t**t lead singers, well fairly standard most of the time, but who cares? Guns n' roses was full of tossers but can't deny they did some fantastic stuff. Which reminds me, must rip my CD's onto MP3. Always forgetting....

Oh, and my vote is between the 70s/80s, even though early 90's was when I was most into it (everyone prefers the previous decade or two when they are like 20). Nirvana were like gods at the time. Major headache the next day after a rock club when in uni. Heh, major girls hair at the time (permed and about mid-back length. Totally Bryan May. Arf...

Heh, and anyone like Sugar? Really loved their stuff until I found out they were all like 50 or so. Weird when they aren't like, the Rolling stones.

Oh, and don't listen to people who liked them "before they were famous/ commercial sellouts". Still think the Metallica-Metallica album (black one) was the best. Heh, and get the Spinal tap album. Is totally black (not even an even blacker snake) and has great touches like "Dobly" on the side. Most cool. And the music is really good.

Cheers

i can't believe no one has mentioned tool yet, so i will. tool is awesome. period.
so much philosophy in the lyrics with many references to religion, politics, and other stuff like science. the music isn't too complex, but isn't all that repetitive. there are changes that you need to listen for-especially drums. my drummer friend jacques is almost fed up with lateralis for having no definite order and fills in the weirdest places, but still sounding good.
now im not saying that they're the only good band, that's completely false. as a matter of fact, i'll listen to it now.
as for staind and nickelback, pointless and very repetitive. i literally can't stand to listen to it anymore.
