I'd laugh if you'd got it wrong and the actual 1/2 millionth post was a team request by a noob

Booo! You smell, this should be classified as spam! Get rid of the sticky, stop abusing your powers!

Sorry, I'm just jealous... I've had my eye on it for about 3 weeks and then I completely forgot about it a couple days ago.

P.S. Actually, I'm going to have to be perfectly honest with you all, from my calculations, Rich's post is actually the 507,311th. The reason being is that 7,311 posts have been deleted from Apollo setting the number of existing posts back. Therefore, technically, Rich's post was the 507,311th to be posted and not the half a millionth. Yup, that's right, got you on a technicality!

The message total is the total number of messages posted - if you delete one it doesn't subtract from the total So there aren't actually 500,000 messages you can read here, probably several thousand less.

But then when I get around to incorporating the data from the old forum it won't matter anyway, there are another 215,000 or so messages from that.

I can't wait to see that. We'll be able to point at some of the oldbie's newbie posts and laugh.

Yes, but each post is numbered starting with 1 (Rich's very first post on the forum) all the way until the very latest post. However, unless I'm mistaken, Rich's post in this thread is numbered 507,311 - Now, technically the 'Post Total' should match that number, however, it is in fact significantly less than that. I came to the conclusion that deleted posts must subtract from the number of total posts but if that's not the case, then there's over 7,000 posts that are left unaccounted for. I wonder why?

Exeat - every now and again I will purge out all of the "deleted" posts, i.e. remove them for good from the database. But MySQL doesn't go back and fill-in those IDs again, it just carries on going quite happily, where-as the total messages will update itself when I do this.

I reckon I probably only do it a couple of times a year at most (and not once since we moved to the dedicated server). If I was to run the purge script right now then I'm sure we could re-celebrate the 500,000 post all over again in a few weeks time

Hey Rich, to mark such a momentous occasion as well as the EA release of FPSC you should ask Rick to look into sourcing some new TGC merchandise - my southpark mug is starting to show it's age .

That's roughly 10 posts per thread. Not a bad ratio at all.

I think us mere mortals get a different post count shown. Mine shows Apollo hasn't reached 500,000 yet, either.

Dibs on fifty thousandth thread!! Really though 500,000 is an artifact of the decimal system. I would have thought computer nuts would be waiting with mouse poised for message 524288 or 2^19.

Congrats on alot of posts though. Good community

The difference between mods and users is that they can see the messages other users cannot...the secret board (its not hard to find out its ID) and the deleted messages (which Rich hasn't purged yet, as he said)...

I figured out its ID, but it wouldn't let me access it. It said I said to be a mod.

That explains why us mortals don't show 500,000 posts yet. I guess we can have another celebration when it happens.

OMG!!!!!!!111!!!!!

In meanwhile related news, light showers of pigs have been spotted falling over towns. This means that weather officials have added new 'pig' weather symbols. Now over to your local news teams, across the country.
