Ok, now the whole loading is 100% complete, the battle field is colored and the GUI works. Here are descriptions of all 4 images:

1)
When you run into a battle the camera detaches from PeaGuy and smoothly swings into it's starting location. At the same time PeaGuy runs to his start location and smoothly rotates to face the right way.

2)
The enemies are teleported in one by one a little above the ground and drops down covered in particles while PeaGuy's friends rushes in to back him up.

3)
Everyone is in their starting position and the engine waits for the particles to bounce of and disapear,

4)
The battle field becomes visible showing where everyone can move. Green hexagones are heroes, red are enemies and grey are empty. The battle GUI is also shown (slides in) and the power bars (green) starts moving, you can also see the action points (orange) increases when they are filled with power. And the camera is now free to rotate with the mouse.

If the GUI get's in your way you can press TAB and they smoothly moves left so only the stats are visible. If you play in 1024x768 mode then the GUI will be smaler.

the grid square are actually really making me curious about this...
i mean hows the battle system actually setup. most RPGs follow the same rules but different styles which vary if it is good or now - so this should be interesting

Here's another shot showing the action camera and how the battles will be played.

Whenever a hero gets full power he will get activeated and the camera smoothly positions itself behind him/her. A green cirle apears around the hero and a yellow cirle marks the field he is facing, if there's an enemy in the field the ring will be read instead. You can now rotate the camera and the hero like you do in exploration mode.

Maybe I will be able to walk around before the end of this day =)

Also note that I have folded in the statistics so that the portraits are no longer visible, you can even hide the stats. It's really smooth and nice and works anytime during battle by pressing TAB =)

I can now controll all 4 heros around using the 3 action points they got. When they have moved 3 times they will have to wait for their turn again.

Here I'm controlling Mortuator (3rd form top in stats).

Do I have to tell you how cool this is or how cool it will be to swing that big sword at the enemies =)

Yeah, but you don't kill the enemy by jumping over him =) And if you still got action points left you can make a standard attack before the enemy can attack you.

Sounds like an interesting combination of Checkers/Draughts and Warhammer to me

kinda like that Dark Eldar Witch game - that was classicly cool to play.

well can't wait to see what this system is like to play

Back to programming my main menu. I've given up on the system I had planned and am hard-coding the whole darn thing because of time. Well at least we'll have one really great game on the CD

Here's the action menu. You move by left clicking. But if you rightclick you will bring up this menu. Do I have to mention that it smoothly apears spreading out from the center =) Even the stats smoothly moves left if they are in full mode in 800x600 so that they are not in the way. Right clicking again removes the menu.

Here's a description of what everyhting does starting with the top one and then continue CW. By now you should be familiar with he color coding.

Block, increases defence
Use, only works if you got an item
Give, only works if you got an item and target hero have space left
Wait
Special, only works on enemies and needs energy and you must have all 3 action points left
Attack, only works on enemies

This is so cool and tomorrow I'm gonna start making all the stuff working so I can kill some nasties =)

It's semi turnbased. See that green bar? When it's full you can controll the hero.

Fluff:
The map loads once and objects are loaded cuntinually so it's one long level.

Looks great . For what I've understood it's something like the battle system used in Parasite Eve PSone?. Hope I can soon play a demo .

It's funny to see Raven making his comments everywhere, even where he's not welcome and not being answered... lol Raven, u have to get a life and stop pretending to be the Yoda of everything man, u just not that good u live in a little tiny fantasy world .

Robert:
I just checked out the PE battle system and in a way it's similar and in a way it's not. What they have done there is basicly a realtime game but with semi turnbased attacks. In TML each character gets 3 action points to spend during it's turn. And you get 4 characters so it's more strategy based.

Great idea DG . Hmmmmm, so it's half like Parasite Eve and the other half, I guess, like Final Fantasy Tactics? I loved that battle system in the Tactics ^_^. I never could come even close to a working battle system

Thanks =)

Damn, FFT seems a lot like TML with a power meter (I guess that's what CT is. And you can move around. However TML handles this a little different it seams, so it's still unique. I got to find that game and test it, looks nice =)

Seems like Space Hulk meets FFIX battle system ... certainly interesting

i take it the stats you gain during battle are only for that battle and your overall score is like based on how many hits your score or something right?

After hours of debugging I finally found a bug that has been messing with my action menu. Since Leah have a special heal attack that doesn't require 3 action points to use the menu has to work differently for her. The bug apeared to be that I forgot to add ( and ) in an IF statement making it true when it shouldn't have been. Thanks to DBPs debuger I was able to track it down.

Other stuff I have made today is fully working wait and block actions. The attack and special actions doesn't work but reduces action points as they should. Battle formulas are comming soon. I also added a leftclick attack so when trying to move to a hex with a nasty you will attack it instead, really makes things faster. It was planned to at least be tested and now I really want it in. But for those longrange attacks the attack action from the menu must be accessed.

Here's a shot of how you can flank the enemy from a safe distance with Patches' double shooty. I have limited the ranged actions to 6 angles to make them harder to use, you must make sure you don't block patches. And placing him in a good spot and wait might be a good idea if you wanna use his tripple shot special.

You might be interested about this here too:

I have thought out a few tacktics myself. Like letting PeaGuy take most nasties himself blocking as he got the highest defence stat while Patches and Mortuator takes out the nasties and Leah heals PeaGuy (her healing works now). Patches will also be nice taking out those iritating wizards since he can move around the front and take them out from a distance with his powerful trippleshot. PeaGuy will be great against knights (with high defence) thanks to his unblockable 2nd attack special. Mortuator is powerful but lacks on defence so he is best used taking the enemies one by one. His power attack special will be great to take out nasties quickly, perhaps best to chose against the quick and painful but week Neoneons.

This is all sounding very promising - I like the hex based ness because of the potential sheilding or vulnerabilities imposed by the positioning of the group members

I agree with RPGamer back off Robert just cos Raven critisised your work once... He is very skilled and also a decent bloke from what I know of him

Thanks =) Yepp, you will probably keep Leah behind the other heroes as she can heal the others but not herself and she got a weak ranged attack. She is great as a docktor sice the healing is also ranged, she can even heal Patches in the same turn most of the time if he isn't to far behind enemy lines. Just load her up with sugar or chocolade so she can fill up her energy to keep on healing.

YAY! I just nailed what I hope is the last bug in the ranged thingy. Feels like I have been debugging all day. Sure have been many hours of debugging today, at least 6. Now it all seems to work great and I really hope it does.

I have speeded up the zoom in as it was getting iritating long, I halfed it =) And I also enabled mouse controll during the zoom out that is as slow as it have always been but since the time unfreezes and you can move the camera it's ok. I'm even playing with the portraits visible. They don't appear so much in the way to me anymore, it's worse when I'm trying to take a nice shot.

I'm gonna add a mouse walk function for the exploration mode cause one hand only gaming apeals to me =) It's nice when you can play the game while drinking Coke or whatever. The battle mode is mouse only exept for hiding the stats on TAB.

Tomorrow I will add energy cost on the attacks and make the attacks deal damage using my battle formulas and then display the result.

Weeh, the attacks works now and I can kill those nasties =) The white one is a little harder to hit and can take more damage. When the AI works it will aslo be able to deal more damage and hit better then the green ones.

It takes some time to beat the nasties at the moment cause the party is level 1 and the special attacks are not working yet. But they are next =)

I have now loaded in the battle speach so now the heroes says things when they use the special action or kill a nasty. You gotta love Mortuators laugh when he kills one =)

Hey guys. Just wanted to say how impressed I am with your progess Magnus. This is Jerry from Astral Entertainment BTW. I've been watching the different contestants progress since you were all chosen and am finding myself really looking forward to the final products, especially your RPG.

Oh, I read a small bit of misinformation in another post, it was actually Brian and Garth that started the Pa...*ahem* Pea-Guy series. Sorry, no bitterness. Chad and myself both started working on Pea-Guy later, myself on Pacula's Curse and Chad on Vengeance or Bust I believe. Not important but that's the beautiful history.

Anywho, it's good to see the series isn't going to die, there was a time not long ago that it looked like Pea-Guy would die a second and much more permanent time. He is resilient.

Signing off.

Classic of Raven. First he piss peoples off, like when he used my new alias ^_^. Even one of the moderators, in an old forum of DB, long ago, said something like that: "What poor man u are Robert, u say bad things about other peoples work and wanna hear good things about yours".
Then, after a while, u pretend to be the good guy, the one everyone has to love, like u r doing right now . Silly, very silly

... you know whats interesting, is if your suppose to be me - you've said nothing about my current signature, which you should be able to translate - afterall you are me.

your use of Japanese is quite, interesting to say the least and definately not how i use it ... you can't get my classic (^_^)
not being funny but i don't care what people think of me, what i do care about is having someone openly attack me - yet be such a coward they don't want to reveal thier identity.

if you're me than translating your native language shouldn't be a problem,
Kyii Futoki'Sha ShadowRobert Vi Scewi'Like Lyiiku Du Tau!

i'm sure you understand what that means all too well - quite frankly i don't have the time or patience to keep being plesent towards you ... no doubt if god forbid i did decide to say anything bad to you, you'd go off on a tangent of pure profinities again.

Now if you want to continue this make a seperate thread, cause this isn't the place for this!

I didn't know there where anyone else at AE then Chad and Garth =) It would be sad if Pea-Guy died, you seem to have many fans. Maybe this contest and all the wonderful 3D it brings into PG's world will give you more fans.
