There has been a massive power surge in London shutting down the entire tube network...
http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1188265,00.html

People are injured and its pretty much chaos!

Glad I walked from the station this morning.. I normally get the tube!

All there is on BBC is saying emergency services are investigating a bang heard - is the power surge the latest info or speculation?

Glad I don't live in London

Could this be some kind of terrorist thing or maybe something to with G8 or the Olympics?

Doubtful - its more to do with the electrical surge, especially if live wires are touching anything metal...

Thing is - the entire tube is sectioned. If one bit goes, it gets cut off and isolated from everything else. Why would it happen in several locations?!

Also - why would that cause 3 busses to explode!!

Its terrorist surely, doubtfull its G8 or Olympic related..

Most of the info is third or fourth hand, hard to know what's happening. A guy rang Radio 5 to tell them what his mate said he had seen...that won't be exagerrated as it goes from person to person then! reckons it was like sardines popping out of a tin

Dodgy cabelling - haven't you heard of sudden explosions in Russia caused by exploding pipes beneath the streets ?

Quote: "Why would it happen in several locations?!"

Depends on how quickly the sections can be isolated.

Quote: "Its terrorist surely"

Still doubtful

Supposedly explosives have been found on the underground too..

I know what you mean - there is no official info either way - I just think its a very strange coincidence that all this happens on the same day at the same time...

Luckily I work from home in South London these days and only travel into town to see clients on the odd occasion but both my flatmates work in the centre and are going to have a bitch of a journey home tonight.

Good old Manchester...

Nothing like that ever happens up here...

My first thought - the French are mad... doesn't sound very likely though...

Been all over the news here (interrupted the cricket coverage for it ) and I think it's safe to assume that the explosions were planned.

Quote: "Joy - mobile networks are down now..."

That's because whenever something like this happens everyone uses their mobiles at the same time to call family and friends, this obviously creats a bottle neck in the network and makes it very hard to get through. Hence, we have warnings down here that tell us not to use our mobiles in the case of an emergency because it makes it very difficult for emergency services to communicate.

The other reason mobiles get turned off is for security. You can hook a mobile up to a trigger on a bomb and remotely set it off by calling it...

The BBC dont say that - they only state that Arab source say it was a terrorist attack. No. 10 aren't sure about it either - but then they aren't sure about most things...

Only quoting what the BBC say...

Bet its an embarrassment for old Tony (and probably more so for GCHQ/MI5/6 when the enquiries start).

The timing seems a little too perfect for it to be just some random problem with the London PowerGrid.

Blair was due back in London (in roughly the area the 6 Explosions too place) from Scotland, in order to update and meet with his ministers ahead of Fridays talks.

I doubt this has anything to do with the Al'Qeda as was reported by once source. While the PowerGrid of late has been iffy, if you'd lived in or around London for any reasonable amount of time you'd know they don't surge, power just disapates. Only time I remember powerlines surging was when Lightning hit a transformer grid and it overloaded.

Personally I would look towards G8 Activists. After the trouble that was caused yesterday, although the thought is very scarey that they had organised themselves well enough it would explain how they got past the national security that has cause quite a number of outside attacks in the past 10years.

Still it is idle speculation until the site investigators are done.
In any case, my thoughts go out to the families of the two people who have died and the many how've been injured.

I cant explain it - but as said above, the timing just seems very perfect for a coincidence.

If it was JUST the tube, or JUST 1 bus, I'd put that down to coincidence.

I get the tube every day (except today ironically) and the worst the happens is normally you have to wait to get on, or sometimes it sits there for no reason then moves on.

My main problem now, although not effected by the initial "blasts", I am effected by the fact there are no incomming and outgoing trains from london anymore and I live about 30 miles outside london!

Yes, quite. Did you also see the BBC.co.uk site map of how far apart they are?

I'd say the space and randomness of it all. I mean think about it, but ONLY the public transport in that area exploded. There were no pure random explosions where civilian transportation was involved.

That to me is bloody suspicious.

I've only just woken up, I got a text message from my cousin who told me what happend. I immediatly started panicing because my Dad, Auntie and a lot of cousins work in and around London. My Dad usually gets off at Liverpool Street Station (a bomb went off there) but he was late so he avoided it.

I only found out about the bomb at that particluar station after I found out my Dad was ok - otherwise I would have really panicied.

Everyone I know is ok - thank God.

Anybody else having trouble accessing the BBC web site? There are no images for me except the big one, and its gone all minimalistic. Perhaps they've removed the images to save bandwidth?

My heart and sympathy goes out to all who lost their lives; were injured; their loved one's; and all of London.

Very sad news to wake up to here in New York.

The news we are getting here is...
7 "coordinated" blasts... (lots of speculation right now)
Entire Subway system effected...
One station specifically "targeted"...(again possibly speculation)
3 Double?Tripple? decker busses of injured taken to hospital...

It seems news outlets are leaning towwards a terrorist attack. Whether intentional, or accident, it's very sad.

I hope that everyone from the Forum and their loved one's are ok.

There are no triple decker buses in London, David T - if there were I'm sure they would have been on the list.

mm. Is it me or are all the uk news sites overloaded? I thought it was 6 explosions and 2 buses. Either way to say this was caused by the power grid.....They probably managed this terrorist attack because alot of the security will be at the G8 summit.
