Something suggested, and well looks like no one started a thread, so I decided to, each month there will be a theme for 3D modelling and you gotta make a scene based around the theme, and they'll be a 'due in date' and you gotta post you finals in on/before that date, after the date you go into a voting stage, people can say what the like the best, and the winner can choose the next theme, also you can post your work in progress screens as well.

Due in date : 25th August (this one will be short, oh well) votes by the end of the month

Theme: Your favourite character from a movie or a game, or just a character of your choice.
May sound hard for you non character modellers, but Spongebob the movie, is a movie isn't it, and patrick is an easy model

So once you've picked your character post an image of it, then get your but into gear
[edit]
I'm being realistic, and realised I haven't the time to do Azumi
and well on the due in date I'm gonna have to ask some one to do that bit for me, as I will not be here, my holiday starts on the 20th

This actually could be cool, but you would need more organised rules, and maybe a prize (argg..I hate modelling characters!).

can be any character, so easy to model cartoon characters count

I can't exactly give people prizes though, what would I give em that won't hurt my wallet, and would have to be over the net, I dunno, maybe if I could ask a mod to put the winner and their work in the newsletter, maybe that'll work as a prize.

Well I have to make a model of Professor Utonium (of the Powerpuff Girls) for a game i'm making anyway... if that is acceptable then this could give me motivation to create him sooner rather than later
Though it's for a game, and not a main character, so i'd be making it fairly low-poly... is the comp looking for high low or any level of polys?

yeah its fine, we all love the powerpuff girls anyway

The poly count is up to you, you can smoothe off the model if you feel it looks a little too low poly for the compo

I tried Azumi, but realised I had no time, I time box modelling spongebob, but nope, he sucked lol, I think I could do bloo from Fosters, but that would be too easy...maybe coco?

10 days is more then enough for each compition. seeing how we have 10 days for this one..

For prizes, i think the host should create a relativly cheap prize and who ever wins, takes the prize and creates a new prize along with the theme.

Im in on this one.. but ill keep my entree secret until its finished.

Im not going to texture my models, and i think you should make it a rule that textures are not allowed.

Its not the textures we are judging you know?

Great idea tho! I wonder who came up with it..

I feel just terrible about it

@Flame, for some people who do a lot 10 days is a lil short, but well okay, but if I ever get this to be put in the newsletter, then well it'll be monthly. Textures should be allowed, I mean its hardly not fair if someone is doing a realistic head

@BenD, yeah that should be a rule, good point

[Edit]
wooot 10 days till me holiday 8 days until my year anniversiry of being here, 7 till my sephiroth due in date

How about fake textures(solid colors, Cel shading, shaders?)

EDIT: how will it be judged. for example Difficulty, Style, No Mesh errors. And are there any requirements for example has to be in a scene, give wireframe, Render size, A screenshot of it in your viewport, etc.
I also think next Compo should be the begining of the month til five or ten days to the end of that month(Just my suggestion)

BTW I have an handicap Im going to Hollywood for the weekend(im not a star I just want to go to Universal Studios)

people can just vote what ones they think deserve to win, if someone posts a model amazing for themselves and everyone else was about their own average I would pick the mostly improved one, as they'll deserve it, considering it'll be a public vote, how you judge is up to you.

Also someone might need to take over this ones voting stages and start the next one, I'm on holiday then

actually, read the AZP thread about the best modeller lol

This quoted from big add

Quote: " Yeh! That sounds like a plan man. But i dunno what i'm most proud of. . We should have a modelling competition. lol"

soooo....no one started the thread when I saw it, and had enough replies for someone to start one, so I did the honours

btw how many people press choose file instead of post message?

Too late mine is already 3000 polys
Finished modelling tho so I will have to spend rest of time thinking of a good pose/scene. Basically modelling is all I did today I get too carried away with this stuff.

Well i hope you won't be dissapointed im having hair probs with him. Bill Amends didn't really draw the hair so that it could be 3d . Im stuck with some flat odd looking hair for now till I can figure out something. I did rig the character tho so I could do some animations with him that would be fun.

oh okay, of course, I vote on more than skill, so well I advise everyone else to, okay, if it looks like the persons same old stuff, then take that into account, as they wouldn't have put as much effort in as someone really trying, and well would put those not so good down, so that means, sspike you'll have to impress us , as I won't be here on the 20th I'll place my vote on the 19th
