Wow, that title was wordy. I'm just curious as to the rules on advertising for team member to join paid positions (specifically modellers, obviously). Depending on whether our character modellers/animators come though for free, I might need to employ a modeller/animator. Is it kosha to advertise here, or does that constitute a team request?

if you post a proper request, then its ok, and certainly if its actually paid.

your team request should follow this sort of structure

Who you are
What you do in the team
a very brief background to the project - also, show any progress you can (a background story doesn't count, nor does an "awesome" website, or some renders of how you think the game might look)
how many people you're looking for
what you want from them - the more comprehensive this is, the better, include concept art, reference if you have it
how much you'll be paying

if someone does join up, be reasonable, don't expect them to be able to churn out a fully animated humanoid model in a couple of days, and if you don't provide proper ref or concept art, don't get pissed at them if the model isn't what you'd imagined.

does that help? basically team requests are allowed, so long as you demonstrate that you're not a moron.

good luck

I get ya mate. The only thing that bugs me is the big old newbie slap "DO NOT POST TEAM REQUESTS" warning by John stickyed at the top. I was hoping he or another mod would drop by and tell me I won't get newbie slapped if I drop an ad.

No. The rules are your not allowed, period.
Read the AUP rather than asking the members.

Raven, have you read the AUP? There's nothing in the AUP that could keep him from posting his request.

I don't even know what the AUP is, nor was this post directed at members, although all chipping in is good.

I think I've read that about 10 times now! That's why I posted this. I'm not gonna make a team request. All I was considering was making a single well formed ad for a paid modelling position.

Well shizzle mah nizzle, now we're refusing cash when handed to us? Oh well, too bad you can't post that.

Yes, the AUP clearly states that you may not advertise in any form. There are also clauses against making/offering financial benefits.

Both prevent you from asking for any help where money is discussed. It may be discussed outside of the forum; but not inside. Nor can it be directly mentioned. If I had the time I'd go through it and pick out the exact parts which explain it.

Rich himself has explained this previously though.

I do recall (vaguely) that there are some issues with inducing paid services over the forum, for instance, if someone pays but doesn't get delivered the product (or vice versa) then TGC may be caught up in the middle of something messy where either party may expect TGC to take some sort of action.

I'd be inclined to say you're not allowed to, based on:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=team_requests

More specifically:
Quote: "But I really do run this company!
Very well, in that case you need to talk to TGC directly because recruiting salaried employees via the forums isn't allowed without prior arrangement. "

However, that doesn't discount it completely.

Depending on how this is worded I would probably allow it. I would expect it to be posted in the Work in Progress board, and for the post to include good details about the project, what's been done so far, maybe some screen shots, etc. Just so people know it's for real. If the post isn't worded to sound like "we're hiring staff" then it will keep expectations real.

In short - email me the text you'd like to post and we'll work through it together until I'm happy it satisfies the few criteria we have.

Cheers,

Rich

Ok, cheers for that Rich. I've been moving house but back online now and cracking on with the project. I'll drop you an email if and when we decide to look for paid modellers.
