i would also like meshes to get textures from their directories so i can minimize starting time and not have to skip through all of the model folders when browsing textures.

Oh yes, that would be very nice.

Hey, I am a total noob to DBP, so if you would be kind enough to just help me along. I'm good with FPSC though, just learning DBP now.

I'm sure this has been posted, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Will we be able to export terrains as a heightmap image? This would help out tremendously for various reasons If not I guess I will have to manually build a heightmap from the object file it creates.

Hey josh, could you try to add a spline tool ? like the spline tool in gmax and have it that when the spline is closed, a face is made and stuff.

Yea that would be very usefull, instead of using meshes or modelling it in 3DWS (Brushes/Move Vertex)

The connection to the internet on startup is still annoying the crap out of me and it is now takes 20 times as long to start up on a computer with no internet or a firewall up blocking it (I DO NOT like programs trying to connect to the internet without giving me a reason why in the documentation)

This happens everytime 3dws starts up even with the check for updates disabled and I believe 3dws would start a heck of a lot faster without it.

Please remove this thing

*sigh* Read what I said.

1) It is not there anymore, so you CAN'T disable it
2) When it was disabled in the previous versions it STILL tried to connect to the internet!

Thanks for trying to help It doesn't seem to work though

That was exactly what I was expecting you to say too. You probably haven't got a good firewall, or any firewall at all.

If you'd have looked at my config settings you would have seen this is option disabled. It still attempts to connect to the internet, it tries 5 or more times until it gives up, but it adds a un-nessesary amount of loading time for no reason.

It never connects to the internet for me... And the splash screen loads not only internet, but the program! So you maybe don't connect to the internet, but you think so.

A Hemisphere/sphere tool would be a cool inclusion.

Are you going to be re-implementing something like the spline tool from CS4, it was damn useful.

This is definatly a long shot - but a twist/ distort tool for producing barley-twist style effects (kind of like unicorn horns), of limited use and would push up the poly count- but cool.

Spline tools would be good. Also some smoothing option for the brushes would be a nice addition. Its annoying having to load meshes for pipes and columns and such when it could be done a lot easier in 3dws.

Maybe patches too for small patches of ground and nice curved surfaces like the nose of a plane or something.

Oh and fix dbo lightmaps and the terrain not showing in the dbo export.

I really wonder why Josh keeps removing features for each new version. The way it is now, there's no way to make a simple wall. Also, there's something about an absence of previous version textures and meshes (Though I don't use the included textures anyway).

Splines were removed because they did not create correct brush geometry. The previous version meshes and textures were replaced with new, much better, media.

it would be nice to have a spline tool that creates correct brush geometry, like a spline tool that creates a wall of thin boxes. just to have consistency.

Or maybe a sort of polygon tool, where you draw a shape in the top view and it adds the top and bottom automaticly.

Don't know if this has been added yet:

Since DBP's limb commands suck ... it would be nice to be able to set an option to export a seperate .dbo file for each group (like the csm importer). This would make rotations and culling easier.

On the point of the lack of splines.
Would it possible to create an addin which created chained boxes- the overlapped faces being 'deleted'. This should maintain the correct geometery.
Does this make sense?
It would speed up level creation, having to copy, paste, and rotate is such a pain.

Cheers

Anyone know if they sell a bundle of 3d ws...ghil[s]...and DBP?

I would really like for the viewports to be resizable. Like in Radiant you can just click on the window separator and resize the view. I don't mind scrolling with the arrow keys, but this would be a nice feature, especially since I work on large interiors.

keyboard shortcuts need to be put back in to make things easier in the interface. spacekey to deselect was also very useful.

Agree. By and large, 3d editing using dialogs only is bad. Another one is light editing: selecting colours (without colour picker!) and editing angles in the dialog is also too iffy.

I wish there could lines be like in CS4.

I mean, in CS4 the surfaces were composed of vertices, triangles and lines.

They are good to create invisible trigger objects or regions, that won't mess up the rest of the scenery.

It is logic to choose with your heart
