Dark GDK / Resizing the surface instead of streching

Hey, simple question but knowing my luck no simple answer, is there any way to prevent the directx surface from being streched to fit the window when you maximise it and instead resize to show more but at its original resolution?

Its for a map editor where a lower resolution is prefable (because map optimisations etc arnt made until the map is compiled) but LOTS of viewing space is desirable, the more the better for when you're map editing
