This is my first Anime style charecter that I made.
Before anyone asks, yes the model was highly influced from images and other models. At the stage of modelling i am right now, my imagination is not at the level, to think of how to make these body parts on its own. I looked at charecter's from all sorts of games, as well as tutorials such as the crash bandicoot on to learn how to make this guy. For the count, the main guy i based this charecter on was a charecter from a 2p game my friend had at his house. Jhonny Ree i owe you one, that torso is yours. (your concept art rocks!)

Made Completly in wings, and rendered in Lithunwrap
Played the game on sunday, and got mass amounts of screen shots. Began modelling.
Got basic shape done on Monday, with one arm one leg etc.
Finished model today.

Any crit&comments, would help allot. I know i am a newbie at modelling and don't claim to be anything else. Just want to get better's all . Before i move onto to the next one i would just like some comments to get better.

Without further ado,

(looking back..the placement of the legs is skrewed up and he isnt bending quite as much as he should be, but the legs are there for easier animation, and the bending is a mistake ).
Thanks
Zedane

Hey! thats pretty good dude. He looks a bit FF7-ish. How about posting some wireframe images? How many polys?

The only thing i see thats disturbing is the neck thats non existant... I agree that johnnys torso is good, but not good enough to not need a neck to connect it to the head .

and another disturbing thing

Quote: "rendered in Lithunwrap
"

o_o... L-O-L. I dont think thats a render... Just kind of.. a screeny... Im sure wings wouldve done just as good, you got meh? Any who i guess i should stop talking because Ive never really rendered anything. overall Id give it an 8/10 for a low poly model .

thanks oddmind. means allot.
I rendered in Lithunrap because it gives a closer image to what dbp puts out. (DBP puts out crap if its untextured, but textured it will look like that).
The model is 554 Polys.
The idea was to go with FF7ish, but i realized that since my game would be a top down beat the sh*t out em up, i needed a more proportional chara. Thats when i was playing one of my friends games and i liked the proporions on the charecter allot. Thats how i began learning how to create charecters with a more anime style proportions. I am not fully satisfied, but i can't complain eaither.

The neck thing was actually a mistake on my part, if you look at the image of his back, you can see the little spike to resemble his neck, but if was soo consumed with that hair, that i never got around to moving the head back in place.

Wireframe images coming up!

1 from lithunwrap, 2 from wings.
(his legs look bad from the side...)

554? wow not bad at all! Suggest hooking this one up to a skin and throwing it into quake 2 or something. I can hook it up to a counter strike skeleton for you if you want, give you all those basic animations with little effort.

Nice work!

I love the style, hey, I'll help you texture it if you want when it's UV-ed and everything, looks like good practice

the butt could use some fixing, the body in the first shot looks a lil too small compared to the rest. but otherwise its a pretty neat model.

OddMind, thanks. After its textured im going to try and give a shot at animating it my self. I'll probably fail . It would rock if you could do animations, but i need them to work in DBP also, because I need to practice using animated charecters in games (collision).

Epimethues, Really? I don't really even understand how texturing works in wings 3d, but lithunwrap and wings both have UVing options. If you want a go i can send you the model. It is split up into many different objects so you can see where each joint is.

Wigget : Thanks, ill try and fix it, i understand the first comment. But "body in the first shot looks a lil too small compared to the rest". So should i just make the body get larger as it goes up?

Thanks for the comments
Zedane.

just a FYI ive hear that DBPro doesnt like the different objects thing, ive hear that it slows down if your model has alot of different objects. Ive never actually experienced that but ya know... YEa if i hook him up to a CS skeleton and import some .SMD's he will be good to go.

sorry dude, what i meant was that the body looks small in comparison to the limbs, maybe stretch it out a bit more on the vertical axis.

@Oddmind, If you do import your skeleton, etc..Could you add in animations such as attack (with sword), and combos (Dynasty Warriors style) because that is what i really need. The charecter attacking. But for now, to test in the level it would be really great if you could give him the skeleton. Im going to bend his knees a bit more, and that will probably his standby stance. How would you like me to give you the model, i can make it one object or multiple objects.
Thanks again.

Wigget, When i get home i'll try it and post it up, tell me what you think. Thanks for the comments though.

Pats you on the back, very good dude, you are progressing nicely, prolly already mentioned, but its very FFVII style, which is good, because I love the game (hence the avatar) and has a nice style, doesn't appear that their is anything wrong with the geometry, so I can't say anything to condemn the model Good work

You don't have to send me the model, just send me the UVs(from like lithunwrap, in a picture file, 1024x1024) and another picture that shows how you want it painted and I'll paint it for you and send you the texture. Unless you want me to UV and texture it for you, then send me it as a 3DS file.

I am sending you both. By the way im going to try and use him a game similar to Dynasty warriors. Except from a birds eye kind of view (Camera rotation is a bare). So you see the charecter from a third person birds eye view (i might change to direct 3rd person). You basically (as of right now), run around through the levels, beating up as many mosters as you can (this charecter will dual weild swords ), the settting will be medival, no guns just swords sheilds and staves. I hope that gives you an overview of the setting and what kind of person he is.

Thanks again for doing this
Gokz.

It's nothing, I'll probably not be spending several hours like my last character on this one because it is simplistic and clean cut.

although, can you draw a simple sketch of him, just so I can see what you want him to look like.

Do you see his hands?
look in my above postings. Thats exactly how he is supposed to look.

The texutring..why is there so much white stuff. And also he looks kinda chubby...

hmm i dont actually know how i wanted him to look. But definatly not chubby, probably yellow hair, grinning, *cool*, like you see in a lot of those animes.

The eyes look a litte weird, i found some good images from kingdom hearts.

eyes, and smile are really good

same as sora, but i think i like sora better. He seems..evil.
If you remember the games genere, and that its just a beat em, you can see why facial expression is important. And his eyes dont seem like somone who will be beating up a bunch of monsters.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but when i review someone i would like to point it all out so that that person gets better.

I am still very thankfull for what you are doing

P.S. This model is sorta turning into a communtiy thing

Well, Today i basically did nothing except make him swords.

Also i reversed his position to the generic standing one (da vinci), and i find that he looks pretty bad in this position .

Ah Well, i hope you guys like him, i moved the head down a bit.

Tommorow im going to begin on a new charecter. Eaither that or give it a shot at boning and animating him..

Calm down, calm down, that was just a concept I put together in like 5 min.

Alright I'll texture him like Crono, since that seems what your going for.

Also the 3ds you sent didn't have arms, but the .OBJ did so it's all ok now.

We should talk on IM sometime. My AIM is gokz1000.

Lol if that was done in 5 minutes it looks really good, but even if i should be gratefull that someone is helping, it doesnt help if the thing that they made looks kinda bad (no offense). You dont need to worry about the swords (that something i have to worry about), since they will be attached to him during the game.

Yeah, I'm usually on from 3:30 to 6:30.

Also, I think I may be able to finish by tomorrow or the next day, it's not so much that it will take long it's just that I'm busy with school( Junior year and several AP's! ) anyway would you rather have it quickly or very well done?

I take well done any day of the week.

And i have to second the AP thing, im a sofamore(stupid, young, full of mistakes. Hey i cans study for english can't I?) , and these A.P. classes are killing me. World history especially, since i haven't read since a month into the year. (She has never enforced that). And she wont give out studyguides untill tommorow!!

Im a freshman and I have AP classes . Anywho your going to need a bone protruding from his hand to hole the sword during the game. Ill do that on whoever this guy is, but if your boning ANOTHER one of your models then keep that in mind.

Cool, thanks odd mind. I have already boned him for you, just waiting for the textured version to come back. I am also going to make some small changes once the version comes back and its all yours. Ill add that bone in though.

OddMind, i would still like to know, is it possible for you to add in some sword combo's. The game isnt going to be that big, but i atleast want a few 4-5 hit combo's.

Thanks again for animating. The game i am making with this chara is going to released freeware, with all source. And i will glady make a tutorial on anything in the game (models, code, etc). I already have some sound, and basic engine. But i cant go any further untill i haev a finalized test model. Your name will definatly go in the credits along with Epimetheus, and i know that doesn't really mean much, but i dont have much to offer since the game is going to open source anyway.

By the way i have begun working on a second charecter (a bit bored , trying to blow time when i should be studying >.<. He is a little more proporional, legs and arms arnt so long, and the body is a bit bigger. In my mind he stands out as that guy, who is standing on the cover of fighting games and you know is the main charecter even though they never specify one (ex. Akira V.Fighter). I hope to put up some screens soon. Thanks everyone for giving me crit and comments, it helps.

Cool, thanks.

Well I finished the hard stuff today, UVing and laying out the texture until it looks just right...now for the easy part: the actual texturing

tell me if you want any changes, excuse the cheesyness, this is just a layout.

Also I can't move the nose up any higher because with the geometry of the model it just won't look right

well, without offence or anything, but the textures look like a bad paint drawing , witch kinda looks bad on the model..

but the model is just great !

I know, its just a layout but it looks soo cool! Can we use this as a seperate costume or something! I really love it, because its just soo cheezy. (i am seriously not kidding)

Lol, dodic, he said its just a layout, but i can understand why you think it sucks. Lets just wait until we see what the real textures are .

Okay now onto the actual crit. I like your color scheme, red and blue will do nicly. But if it wasn't your intention to use red & blue as his clothes color, its fine. (let your imagination run wild) Definatly like that little smile he has. Also i think his eyebrows need to be slightly more angled, just a slight bit though. Not to make him look evil, just ready to have some fun. The nose is fine where it is, i think its my fault for making it come down so low.

Thanks Epimetheus.

Very Very Nice texturing, and ofcourse you can have the model in your portfolio, if you want you can use the game too to show your model in action.

Also i wanted to know if you would like to help texture some more models that i make. I dont have any texturing (or artistic) ablity at all, so i would really love it if you could just texture a few more charecters for the game.

Well, I'll try, but I'm very busy so don't expect anything done fast.

If it's a character how about I just texture the face and skin and you or someone else can do the clothes, if it's a monster or something I can texture the whole thing though.

not really, if the geometry is the same I can save the lithunwrap file and put it on the animated model, also, if that does not work, whoever animates can save their skeleton and just re-rig when I'm done.

great job, ill get to animating and making a demo A.S.A.P.
Just send both versions and ill put an option for the user.

Lol, now all we need is 8 more guys standing side by side and we got our chara select screen .

Actaully seeing how much work is involved and how busy you are, we may have to go down to 4 or 2.

Just to tell you guys, i have had midterms all weak, so im sorry i wasn't able to make a new charecter, but i did manage to rig the old one to get a feel for how he would animate. There are a few problems (the body especially the knee to lower leg, and elbow to hand have a few problems but with more experimentation i should find a solution.
I have no tests tommorow so i'll try and upload an avi (or the model it self) of him doing.....something.

Thanks again for doing this Epimetheus, and i will try to include concept art. May be in the form of words though since i dont have a scanner. (words and links to chara's on the internet).

Now the next thing is probably a monster (to let the chara beat up on). I will try to also make a basic monster model (see what i can come up with).
