Plougot and I are actually working on a new futuristic fps. You may remember my doom remake (http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=49880&b=8), this project will be really better, with a nice AI and better graphics & gameplay.

I'm just working on the particles system (not so easy).

The frame rate is a little bit low because of the shadows but it still acceptable. There is no demo or video yet but tell me what you think about the screenshots.

If it's real, then it's certainly the best looking DBP project I've seen yet.

Are those Doom textures?

what about the shadows... are those DB shadows, are you shadowing the visible meshes, or a simpler hidden mesh... and what kinda performance hit are you getting (54fps looks pretty decent)...

DB shadows , and I'm shadowing the visible mesh but I will make a low poly version of the troopers and I've heard about a trick with shadows : load a low poly object, use hide limb 0 and set shadow shading on. But it's perhaps slower than shadowing the real mesh .

Because it's only the beggining of the project, later, I'll add some facial animation (it's not that slow) and better animation for the body. When I'll add some rotations on the heads, it will be better (I hope so).
And it's an horror game (not really horror, but almost), bigs aliens eatings marines in a spaceship or somthing like that.

I have improved the animation of the characters, but it's not perfect yet ... not so easy to work on the animation, the AI, and at school ... But I promise, they're not going to stay like this forever And i hope we'll soon be able to show you new screenshots ....

I've noticed that a lot of people don't seem to know how to make their shadows darker, so I'm here to spread the word.

set global shadow color [red], [green], [blue], [alpha]

I must say though, nice job. This is looking real promising.

I think they would look more relaxed if their shoulders weren't so uptight. Otherwise, game looks great so far.

Math89: Ahh now thats better !...looks cool.
Great to hear the sound thing is useful to someone. I'm using it in my current project so no doubt I'll be updating it within the next two months. The main problems i have to quell is the fact the listener cant be upside down...this is was I was lazy when I made it and cheated on part of the code that determined what side of the listener the sound is on rather than using matrix functions...I have since then mastered them and will fix this.
I'll let you know when it's done. Also I'm sure I can make the thing more efficient.

Yeah, I've been wondering how you calculated the loading time. Is it some special extra feature from DBpro, or what?

And the scenery is not just "bigs aliens eatings marines in a spaceship or somthing like that." it is a bit more interresting Also, the gameplay will be different of what we always see in the commercial games, because Math89 and I have thought that it would be interesting to integrate more the player in the world, that's why he'll be able to fall, to lose the weapon he holds when he's hit by a bad monster ... and some other stuffs like that ...

One word... AMAZING!!!

Dude, this is the best looking thing I've ever seen in DBP! Almost looks like the guys at ID made it them selves! As for the scared looking humans... Well, it is a horror(ish) game, no?

Keep up the good work!
I'll be following this til the end...

"Why do I look at you and see myself? You look like my father, but you can't be. He died! Just who the hell are you?"
"I know this sounds crazy, but I'm you!"

This IS looking good, but I wouldn't say its up there with Doom3 yet. Perhaps it would be easier to tell though if the pics weren't so compressed. All in all, its looking really nice right now! I just hope the demo wont be massive haha... *kicks his old 56k machine"

OMFG!!!
This is indeed some of the best projects ever made in DBpro
---------

About the shadows (now im curious )
Doesnt shadow only work with Light 0 ?
I tried to make shadow stuff;
the map/level is just one object, and all the other stuff
are lose objects. When i try to apply shadow to them (set shadow shading on [obj]) it doesnt do anything
Kinda strange eh?

Ummm...
Hmm no one seemed to notice that it is just a bunch of characters standing in a room. No gameplay whatsoever is shown. With the right media, someone could easily make this in a day or two...

If you really want to praise a project, i suggest you head on over to the Black Out thread. That deserves the attention!

Milk : You are right, gameplay isn't done at all, we have to finish the game engine (particles, AI, scripting system...).
Quote: "With the right media, someone could easily make this in a day or two... "
Yeah, but it wasn't made in 2 days and you can't see a lot of things on a screen . Plougot is rewriting the AI, so you'll have a video later.

Essence :
Quote: "Doesnt shadow only work with Light 0 ?"
Not necessary light 0, you can use Set Shadow Position but you can't have 2 shadows.
Quote: "When i try to apply shadow to them (set shadow shading on [obj]) it doesnt do anything"

Strange :s. Update dbpro , shadows are better and you have more control : set shadow shading on object, shadowmesh, distance, shader-on/off ; Set Global Shadow Color red, green, blue, alpha.

There is a certain art to getting a scene looking nice with the lighting, models, and everything, and running in an engine that will be used to contain the gameplay.

I'm going to eat you!
