hi

I have only just printed off some tutorials in blender and was reading through them and came up with this model. I know its nothing special but it is my first ever model "Ever".

I cant believe how easy it really is. Blender is really great.

I am now working on a walking anim. I have already added the bones.

C&C Definatly welcome

Cheers

Hey thats great man, nice to see another blenderhead in the making
Thats a pretty poor quality image so I can't give too much crit, try making the image settings a little better when you render it.

Ooh seeing that guy has just given me an idea and I must go feed it.

polygons sure are yummy . Nice model for you first time. Thats a good place to start humanoid wise, now just fatten him up again and give him some muscles and you will have a human

Ok here is a better quality picture of it. Its annoying I havent had time to work on it since I posted this thread.

The pic is a bit bigger.

Thanks for all of your comments so far. I will try to get some more work done on it soon.

Cheers

Are you going to try to animate it? Nothing like a running gingerbread man pumping his crazy legs

Ah that looks much better. Try selecting all those objects and hitting 'Set Smooth' in the edit buttons. It will get rid of those little squares on the curves and you won't need to subsurf it so much.

I always felt Ooga Booga was a witch, but didn't think to ask him, just incase I'd get a curse, with all this Blendering he does, this proves my suspicions...

And I'm pretty sure blender is orange magic.

@ Poke a fish: Yes infact I have started a walking anim but am having difficulties mirroring the movments.

@ Ooga Booga: I have smoothed it loads but it is starting to run real slow on my pc and it is having little effect.

No no thats the wrong button. Go to the edit buttons, and look near the bottom left. There are 2 buttons, one says 'Set Solid', and the other says 'Set Smooth'. Click Set Smooth. This doesn't add any geometry to the object, it just changes the way it renders to get rid of the squares.

Ahh yes the big red "easy" button. Gotta love that one. One time it made me an entire fleet of aliens just by clicking them. I wanted it a week earlier, but hey, the buttons a work in progress.

Looks delicious!

For your next model, you should try to get into the habit of polygon misering - using as few polygons as humanly possible so that the game engine benefits . At the end of the day, one gingerbread dude in a game is ok, but we really want an army of undead gingerbread men, with detachable arms and boned animations. It is nice to forget constraints and just go for recreating an idea or object - but knowing the skills involved in keeping polycounts low is a very important factor when selling or using media.

Immediatley send to Pixar for a million dollars, and a sponsorship to make a cool movie from it.

Unfortunately thats the curse I am stuck with. I have never made a model above 1500 polys... Ive tried! But every time i see something that could be optimized or what have you im right on it with Ctrl B, Drag Select, X, 1.
