hi

If any of you have read my thread about my gingerbread man model
found here:http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=76018&b=3

Then you may have realised that I have started getting into 3d modelling using blender.

Now what I was wanting to know is can anybody tell me of any good tutorials about modelling a character suitable to be put in a game.

eg. Player character.

Before you start flaming I have read the wikibooks and looked on Gamedev.net but there is nothing of relevance to me.

Cheers

BM

Character modelling can be quite complex, I would try to keep with some of the basic stuff at the moment, I mean you have just started, most character tutorials assume you will know all the tools well, however if you still insist, here is one directed at Cinema 4D, but if you know the tools in Blender you should be able to do the same;

I'm afraid this one just covers the head;

However here is a basic character modelling tutorial, its a cartoon character but offers the techniques of a real character (its high poly but you don't need to do all the smoothing crap)

thanks man.

I suppose your right although if people still post some of the tutorials that I have requested I can archive them for when I feel I am ready.

I am going to look around the blender site for some more tutorials first.

Cheers

If you can get the two tutorials I've given you to work, then I wouldn't see why you couldn't progress to starting character modelling, but I would still get to know your app as well, well good luck dude

Yes.

CS Girl tutorial. For a girl. Milkshape 3d.

http://www.dosfx.com/tutorials/csgirl/default.asp

Psionic 3d's Zombie modelling tutorial, for a guy type character.

http://www.psionic3d.co.uk/tutorials.html

Those both go over modelling UVing texturing and rigging/animating.

Have fun

EDIT: After you do thsoe, study a few things on human anatomy then get some professional models and try to copy them. I usualy just open one in deep exploration with the wireframe on and then have blender open and recreate what is in the other window. After you do those two things back and forth a few times you should have a good idea of how to make a human model with the polygons best suited to the anatomy of the human muscular system, or any clothing items you might have on them. Thats the way I do it...

ok I have a tutorial thats pretty general, and technuiques can be used with blender.

Basically this goes thru the process of what he does to make a character model. Dont laugh at the URL he has made many models for professional games like Gun and Bloodrayne 2. He is really great at what he does.

Well here is the blenderwiki tut list incase you missed it (theres a section on human modeling)
http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Tutorials/Links#Animation

Mr. Bombs awesome head modeling tutorial (high poly, poly-to-poly technique)
http://www.blenderartists.org/cms/index.php?id=67

Full Character tutorial (non blender specific, still great though, personally had trouble following)
http://www.secondreality.ch/

One of the greatest tuorials on the net (since the site is queer and the url doesnt change you will have to find it under, free stuff- tutorials-complete projects-joan of arc, non blender specific)
http://www.3dtotal.com/

Theres a low poly character tutorial a few projects below the joan of arc above called "low poly character modeling" by ben mathis not blender specific though

sorry dude, not much blender specific low poly character tutorials out there. If you havent heard, the Orange Team, guys behind the new movie Elephants Dream is going to be working on video tutorials covering a range of things, im sure its going to be professional quality costing money on the site.
