Most of the advanced users around here have the Unofficial Official patch released by Guy just before he went AWOL.

Using that patch, there are some nice bug fixes, as well as the ability to load up more than one instance of the editor at a time.

Maybe TGC have bundled the new editor with the U6 release?

At any rate, does anyone have the link to the patch, so that people can download it if they want?

Cheers,
Jess.

No. You have to change alot to get the FPSC source to compile in U6.

Any chance that 6.0 will be released by Friday? The Ludum Dare 48 hour game development competition is this weekend. It would be nice if it was ready by then.

@zircher - just use the latest RC10 release, the final version won't be much different, so it should work just fine for you.

And good luck in The Ludum Dare 48 hour game development competition!

I doubt it will be released by Friday as a few last minute bugs have been found, specially with instanced objects. Lee has dissapeared, presumably on holiday (how dare he!). It's still my guess that he will want it ready in time for May's newsletter due on the 1st May, but time is running out for that really.

Just to confirm, RC10 *will* be the final U6 release. I asked Lee if he wanted me to release RC10 as final, or wait until the new help system was integrated and he said that he wanted RC10 released as U6 for two reasons:

1) The new help system will take another month or so to perfect (even though it's looking much better already!), and he's on holiday for 2 weeks

2) Publically releasing U6 will hopefully find some more final bugs from those that do not frequent the forums (and there are a lot of you).

When he returns from holiday Lee will prepare a U6.1 release which will incorporate bug fixes reported from RC10 / U6, and the new format help files. I will show you a preview of the help files in the May newsletter. U6 will just be a re-packaged RC10, but will be to all intents identical to RC10. U6 will be released with the newsletter also.

Cheers,

Rich

In every possible way. Instead of commands being grouped by DLL in the help files, they will be grouped far more sensibly. 'Joystick' commands would appear in a Joystick category for example. Also every single parameter, of every variation of a function will be listed, with the complete data type/s and range, per parameter, explained. There is a completely new visual look, more example code, related commands and other things.

They are vastly different. I'll show you in the newsletter.

It's what I always wanted.

And I didn't even think I was that good this year.

seriously though; thanks to TGC and everyone who helped search out the bugs; to make this update the best DBP it can be. Also a big thanks to those who have been fixing the help files. May they be more useful.

i dont know if its posted before but i just today found the blend mapped objects are not effected by the ambient light or any other lights in 5.9. is this a bug and already fixed in the RC releases?

Also id like to know if this rc10 is more stable and better than 5.9 because finally i have a wish to upgrade it.

Unfortunatelly, Cucumber, any object that uses more then 1 texture layer isn't affected by lights. Be it shadow map, bump map, blend map, cartoon shading, mirror etc. Don't know if it is indeed a bug or if it will ever be sorted out but it's been around since forever (its not new to 5.9).

[beg]
That is what I would like to see sorted out in U6.1. Multi texturing has evolved a lot in the last few patched and I hope that in the very near future we will be able to see multi textured objects afected by real time lights AND would also like to be able to use bump mapping and shadow mapping together with correct results. So plz, Lee and Mike, if u are reading this plz plz plz dedicate one whole patch update to finally sort out multi texturing and the DBO format.
[/beg]

Thx

-EDIT-

And this cannot go without saying. You have done a superb job with this 6.0 update. DBP has never been better. Here's to u DBP Team

Take care

Based on the discussion above, I doubt it. It uses 2 textures, so it's not possible.

There will be no release 11. Read Richard's above post.

Seems sad there is no release 11, as there is still a core bug, and a few more. Its this close to being sooo good, why not take the extra time and fix the other small remaing bugs?

I purchased Dark Basic Pro at retail on 4/29/2006 and it says it's version 1.05. Am I really 4 versions behind (1.05 vs. 5.xx)?

Yeah, but just add a line to your keywords file. Your keywords file is normally in: C:\Program Files\Dark Basic Software\Dark Basic Professional\Editor\Keywords\keywords105.ini. Here is the line:
Also, if "to" isn't being highlighted, add this line, too.

Hope that helps,
Martin

P.S. Is the link on the upgrade page the same as this link?

It's actually a mafia holiday. It has to do with Rich's new-found gambling addiction. What is it this time Rich - horses, casinos, or just strippers? At least strippers give you something in return...

Is it so hard to fix a defective link? I don't think so. They should've replaced it with the correct file by now. I find it hard to understand the cause of the delay. Don't they check it? The link is still for ver 5.9. (I mean the one on the TGC website not on the forums)

Ah that makes alot more sense

As for the link ... U6 final is nothing more than U6 RC10 with a proper installer. Just use it until they get the link fixed.
