It's done! Scroll down!
Well, here's what I got so far. My best work yet

Not that it's terribly good, and the texture is just a place holder, but I like it

If anyone can help texture give me an e-mail.

I'm going to use it in my new shooter once I finish my ww2 one (in the WIP board).

For those who don't know:
EDIT: Just noticed, looks like (from what I've read) in late 2005 the gun's production was canceled. Well, my game will just say 'that never happened'.
The XM8 (later to be called the M8) is the potential replacement for the US Army's M16 assault rifle. It is currently a real weapon in prototype stage, and is to be put on the battlefield somewhere around 2010. <- Edit: Just noticed, apparently it was canceled and was, actually, at one point finished.

And to think I learned that from the dvd included with the special edition of Ghost recon.

Edit: You may notice the clip and stock are a little offset, don't worry, that is for editing purposes and will be fixed later

Here's one more pic at an FPS sort of angle.

I'll also add hands (if I can't model them I've already got some somewhere) for my final version. Unfourtunatly, I'm not sure if I'll release it...

EDIT: Not sure if it matters but I modeled it in milkshape.

Here's one last pic in wireframe. It has about 610 triangles. Are those considered polys?

Comments are highly welcomed

Yes, triangles are considered polys. It is ok but needs a lot of work. There is a gap between the clip and the gun, texture is sort of wierd, and there is no trigger. You sould make a new one using this reference picture. It is the same one I used a while ago.

I realize the gap, if you looked I said that's on purpose for now.

The texture is a placeholder. Not the final one. I need help for that

I just added the trigger and I already have a refrence picture. Thankyou though.

Here is a picture of the one with the trigger.

I'm also making alot of ajustments, and I'll post another shot of the improved handel thing on top.

Oh, in case anyone wants it, this is my refrence picture.

EDIT: Havok, thanks for the ref pic, I'm going to ajust my scope after seeing that.

Here's ANOTHER.

I've made some ajustments including hollowing out the barrel, and I moved the clip and stock back into position

ANYONE WHO CAN TEXTURE PLEASE HELP!!!

Also, it's now at 732 polys, and I imagine that's not too high, right?

Yeah, 732 for a gun that doesn't look too high of detail is a little high. Can you post a wireframe pic (the one up higher didn't seem to work, there's only a download button and I don't feel like saving it on my hard drive...) I'm sure there is somewhere that you can optomize it quite a bit.

Finished. It's not perfect, I know, but it's my first gun model worth more than crap, so here it is. Includes the refrence pic from Havok as a texture. It isn't quite exact but it should do fine for some of you guys who need at least a placeholder.

You can save a bit polies on the cylinders.

Can be changed to

(Boxes are the cylinders from top or sideway view)

Thanks

It's my first serious model so I'm happy with it. It's not my first, just my first I really stuck with.

Great work on it, but for the record the actual weapons called the XM-29, I believe.

This sig is empty. Oh no,it's not! It's not because I wrote it WAS!

Uh - two big bumps.

@Snowblind - No, everything I've researched says XM8.

@Phlum - I did put this in 3d Chat for a reason If there is a desire for one in the FPSC board I'll make a newer and better one. Especially since (after playing Ghost Recon) I know more how it looks.

Well, since it's been bumped, I'll say it looks pretty good, and...

Not quite, the XM8 is what has been modelled here, the XM-29 is more commonly called the OICW. Just to sort out any confusion... Sorry to have to say this, but that's not the best OICW I've ever seen

It's an old model, I'm not even sure why it was bumped

And the OICW is a diffrent weapon, unless that is what you intended to say.

Yep, it is... I know they're different (that's why one's an 8 ,and the other's a 29)

I don't contradict myself .... it's a decent XM8, but it's a crap OICW. I mean, where's the upper barrel grenade launcher?

And the confusion of its name is the reason it was bumped in the first place...

Gladly, the XM8 won't be replacing anything.

But nice model.
